I'd choose you. Throw this all away. It means nothing. I love you.

Words you throw my way as if they are as light as a feather. But feathers don't cut this deep. Don't weigh this much on my heart.

Sometimes I can't look at you, scared I won't be able to turn away. Scared that my eyes will betray me. Scared that you will see the burning love I've tried helplessly to quash.

But sometimes I look.

Sometimes the knife twists as I can see the light of another love reflecting in the green of your eyes and I turn the same colour.

It means nothing.

Through tears, shoulder shrugs and heavy silence. You say this. Believe it is reassuring.

But what do I mean if you chose nothing over us?

My eyes are the window to my soul and I hope when you look at me you can see your own.

I keep you with me in ways so pointed it becomes a twisted habit to recognise that the cigarette in my hand is only there because you passed it to me a lifetime ago.

The morning coffee taste just how you made it for me when we eventually rolled out of bed.
