An Impromptu Good Team
This is for the @klfirstdatezine 500-word Meet Cute writing challenge!

“Watch out!”
Lance quickly dodges a laser and turns to see a Galran sentry aiming it’s gun at him to take another shot. He raises his own weapon and, like the sharpshooter he is, nails a headshot on the sentry and successfully eliminates the threat.
“Thanks man!” Lance says while turning to face the guy who just saved him from becoming pala-toast.
“No problem.” the man replies. He is wearing a full black armor suit with a hood over his masked face. Lance watches as he uses his weapon to slice a sentry in half, recognizing the knife and uniform as Blade of Marmora property.
“The name’s Lance, what’s yours?”
“Does it matter?” he huffs out, beheading another sentry with his blade.
“I wanna know the name of my knight in shining armor.” Lance smirks at him. The waves of incoming sentries have died down, and the two take the opportunity to catch their breaths.
“I’m Keith.” he replies, facing Lance as he lowers his mask.
Damn, Lance was not expecting his “savior” to be that attractive. His long dark hair and intense violet eyes compliment the suit he is wearing perfectly.
“I’m with the Blade of Marmora.” Keith offers after Lance’s prolonged silence.
“Oh, right. I’m a paladin of Voltron.”
“Voltron?”
“Yeah, impressed?” Lance smirks.
“What are you doing here?” Keith questions, completely ignoring Lance’s smug remark.
“I could ask you the same thing. I was sent here to get some intel about Galra supply routes.”
“That’s why I’m here. The Blade wanted me to retrieve data about the supply routes from the ship’s control room.”
“You know we could get this done a lot sooner if we do it togetherrrr.” Lance waggles his eyebrows.
Keith considers this for a moment, “Fine. Let’s go before more sentries get here.”
After stealthily navigating their way around the ship, they reach the battlecruiser’s control room. Keith is downloading the data from the control panel while Lance is keeping a new wave of Galran soldiers at bay with his rifle.
“You keeping up over there, Keith?”
“Yeah, just concentrate on keeping me safe” he replies while the last bits of data download.
Lance shoots at the sentries as more push into the doorway of the control room.
“Alright, I got it. Let’s get out of here.” Keith stores away the data and wields his knife as it shifts into a sword. He rushes toward the doorway and slices through a couple of sentries.
“Sharp work, samurai.” Lance shouts over the sound of his own rifle firing.
They clear up the doorway, taking the soldiers down one by one.
“Hey, we are a good team. If we make it out of here, do you wanna go out sometime?” Lance asks as he aims his rifle at another swarm of sentries.
“Yeah, it’d be nice to meet again when we aren’t trying to not die.”
They spare a moment to look at each other and smile.
Before they are right back in action again.
