100 Word Statement:
The public beating of the bear was intended to showcase apathy from the general public towards cruelty, during the recording of the display a handful of cars driving by did momentarily slow down at the sight of what our group was doing but proceeded along with their day shortly afterwards. The same can be said for the people that were taking a walk in the area as well. This mimics the behavior we have seen online towards cruelty, just as the public in the area passed by without a word, users online often scroll past harassment towards individuals when they do not feel strongly enough to join in the harassment themselves. Though no hateful words were exchanged, no actions to stop them were either.

Viral Interventions: Final Proposal
Description: A corpse hung from a tree, visualized by using a large plush animal, with it's heart gouged out. Within the crater where it's heart used to be are notes containing the negativity and lack of kindness that killed it. It is also weighed down by these negative notes, like cement blocks
Intended Audience: Those that are too preoccupied to care for the suffering of others, this is based off of the assumption that most people won't stop to pay attention to the plush

Viral Interventions: Propose
This proposal is inspired a comic ‘The Angriest Dog in the World’ by David Lynch. We propose displaying two cages. One covered with a blanket playing audio of a dog growling and barking, may include a moveable toy inside hidden from the viewer so the cage can shake mimicking a dog lunging at the viewer. The other cage will be empty with a note along the lines of “I found a loving home!”

Viral Interventions: Barbara Kruger QCQ
QUOTE:
“There are so many ways of making art, some of them more available to a general public than others.”
COMMENT:
I have chosen the following quote because I found it sparked my feelings about generative AI images. A common argument I’ve heard in favor of generative AI is that it makes art more accessible to the general public and I find that a grating excuse to why reaching for the good ol’ fashioned pencil and paper was too tall of an order. It also made me think about how many creative choices for movies are cut in favor of making the final product more palatable and ‘available’ to mainstream audiences. After the quote the artist speaks about art that needs to be decoded and I thought of how it appears general audiences sneer at abstract art with ‘I could’ve made that’ from what I understand that artwork comes with a story to tell or feeling it wishes to evoke in the viewer that just flies over heads.
QUESTION:
I believe getting into and improving at art has gotten more accessible over the years with advances to digital tools, online art resources/tutorials, and the option to post artwork online. What do you consider the separation between someone that should keep drawing as a hobby and who should step their foot into the professional world? My professor had told me ‘Skill is a dime-a-dozen,’ there is plenty of talent to be found online so what is the standard for someone becoming a professional?

Viral Interventions: Present (Final)
The sentence was presented in an area within the Nature Preserve on campus. As seen in the video, others that have visited the area have left their marks with spray paint. Off camera, there is another tree, a foldable chair, and a bench left in a similar state. I have visited this area before and some of the writings directly comment on the political state of the world, the bench only a month ago had read ‘FUCK TRUMP’ that message has since been obscured by other writing. It felt fitting to display our sentence in an area where others have left their comments.

Interactions: Color, Space, Perception, Surfaces (Final) + Video Walk-through
My original plan was to create a sizable cube from laundry baskets and a tightly wrapped bedsheet that would glow from the inside from the flashlights within and would quietly hum from my phone hidden inside playing microwave humming.
In movies cursed artifacts are presented with a foreboding hum sound to provoke suspense from the audience, I wanted the unnatural large cube to have an ominous feeling.
The inclusion of audio was inspired by Ryan Gander’s The End featuring a small animatronic mouse displayed low on the wall that was quietly playing a narration from the artist’s daughter, encouraging viewers to get closer and lower to the ground to hear it.
In the struggle to assemble the cube, I saw the bedsheets folding over the edges reminded me of cartoon depictions of Jesus Christ in the Nativity. Baby Jesus would be in a wood structure with a similarly colored sheet for cushioning. Light is typically associated with divinity and purity in religious contexts so the plan changes to create a strong light emanating from the ‘crib’ with my phone playing the sounds of a baby cooing.
Inclusion of balloons surrounding the crib was scrapped as I felt it distracted from the piece and was unnecessary, was originally included to make the baby theme stronger as balloons are typical decoration found in baby showers.
Piece was moved from a stool to the floor as the stool distracted from the piece, it only served to elevate the piece for audience viewing.
