So the story behind these two photos is this: I live in Cape Town, South Africa near the SANCCOB sea bird rescue centre, and a couple of years a ago there was a really bad drought where a whole lot of flamingos had to abandon their chicks because of the lack of resources. So, there was this massive rescue effort put in place where conservationists gathered up all the abandoned chicks and sent them to all the bird rescue center's across the country to try and save them all, and one of these rescue centre was SANCCOB. They hand raised the chicks and wore pink clothing and long black gloves to look like the adult flamingos when interacting with them to try and prevent the chicks from becoming attached to humans. When the chicks got a bit bigger they built this little outside pen with a small pool that the public could see through the fence as they drove by the centre, as you see in the photos I took. Unfortunately many of the chicks initially rescued did not survive, but the ones in this photos are the ones that did! Once they were all grown up they were released back into the wild. Requested Rec List: Queer SFF with Fat Characters!

We got an anonymous ask on Tumblr, requesting a rec list of science fiction and fantasy (SFF) stories with fat characters! And of course, we focused on queer stories. Explicit rep of chubby characters is still depressingly rare, but we did our best to think up some for anon (our anthologies also often include stories with queer fat characters, for what it’s worth).
