I'm pretty sure Toichi and Yuusaku's parents divorced. In that case it's not at all uncommon for one child to take the last name of their other parent.

I think it's said in the movie that their parents got divorced which is the (horrible) reason for the brothers thing was never mentioned before. Though side point, we don't learn why they got divorced or who they are which should've been mentioned.

I didn't know how popular it was to take a different parents name after a divorce, only one of my friends have divorced parents and they only changed it when their mum got remarried years later (like 20).

So it does make sense, I'm more wondering if it would make sense for the characters to change names, we don't know about the mother and father and if it made sense or there was a reason to change Yusaku's last name. Also I'm unsure whether that change came straight after the divorce or years later.

PSA: Don't use Open Office

I keep seeing people recommending Open Office as an alternative to Word, and uh... look, it is, technically, an open source alternative to Word. And it can do a lot of what Word can, genuinely! But it is also an abandoned project that hasn't been updated in nine years, and there's an active fork of it which is still receiving updates, and that fork is called LibreOffice, and it's fantastic.

Seriously, if you think that your choices are either "grit your teeth and pay Microsoft for a subscription" or "support free software but have a kind of subpar office suite experience", I guarantee that it's because you're working with outdated information, or outdated software. Most people I know who have used the latest version of LibreOffice prefer it to Word. I even know a handful of people who prefer it to Scrivener.

Open Office was the original project, and so it has the most name recognition, and as far as I can tell, that's really the only reason people are still recommending it. It's kind of like if people were saying "hey, the iPhone 14 isn't your only smart phone option!" but then were only ever recommending the Samsung Galaxy S5 as an alternative. LibreOffice is literally a version of the same exact program as Open Office that's just newer and better – please don't get locked into using a worse tool just because the updated version of the program has a different name!

Wait I'm thinking about the cousins thing again (and why it's stupid), and mostly about Yusaku and Toichi.

So Toichi and Yusaku are brothers so they must have shared the same last name at one point right? If so WHY did one of them change it?

Toichi maybe for a cooler name, but he could've have a stage name and normal name?

It could be the case that one took their mothers last name but I doubt it?? It really doesn't make sense for either character to change their last name.

Reason number whatever to why this decision is stupid.
