Art fight time! Here was my first attack from the other day for @theartofnina / ~NinaEevee ‘s character Maeve on Artfight. A fun character to draw and she’s been on my hit list since last year.😅

I made some trans and non-binary snails stickers for pride month! Watch out for snails on your morning walks, my daughter and I moved a few off the footpath and back to the grass on the way to school this morning.

A wee comic on growing up shelter or people wanting you to be something you’re not.

These comic panels seem to work together, even though the metaphors are somewhat mixed.

For those who don’t know, I’ve had a broken relationship with some of my siblings (I’m the oldest of 7) for a few years because I won’t conform to who they think I ought to be or how I ought to live (short version: I preach sometimes and I’m not a man, so that’s my biggest offense in their eyes). This comic is about that, and growing up being homeschooled and sheltered. Growing up homeschooled wasn’t all bad, but I’m an advocate for not doing it if your main goal is to shelter your kids. I think my family has had good intentions and has tried their best in some ways, but at the end of the day, I can’t force myself into something that doesn’t fit anymore.

Maybe I’ll tell this full story at some point. For now, I’ll just make art about it.

This wee mushroom was an attempt to combine my abstract embroideries and soft toy/doll making. I'm pretty proud of him even if his legs are too flimsy to stand on his own.

This piece is title “Selkie.”

This piece is title “Selkie.”I drew this piece a 2 years ago but for a series called “fantasy Fridays” on TikTok where I was drawing fantasy creatures. This selkie piece is one of my faves. The myth of the Selkie is from Scottish and Irish folklore is of a seal that transforms into a human, often a woman on land as she shed her seal skin like a coat. There are soem stories of men stealing the selkie’s coat to keep the woman on land as his wife. Song of the Sea by the Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon is a beautiful story about Selkies that I’d recommend if you haven’t seen it.

I wanted to make a piece that showed the seal and woman together, separate but as one. This piece was so fun to draw and play around with the lighting.

I've been needle felling for...maybe a year now(?) and I've come a long way but I'm still really proud of these Jake and BMO needle felted brooches I made pretty early on! These have sold but I can make more if ppl are interested.😏

This is a piece I made a while ago but I’ve been playing around with fiber this past week. Something about the rhythm of slow stitching and the thread between my fingers is very grounding and meditative.

Did some tetrapak dry point printing after following a tutorial. It's so fun and accessible! I've done some block printing before but carving away is much more intimidating to me. I hope to do one of these a day for a wee while.
