Hi! Just wondering if the CT junior novelization was worked on around the same time as the show, as it has some minor differences. Eg. In E1 Darius watching a video of Brooklyn and him before falling asleep instead of the video of the N6 as kids, and him regarding the pachy quite coldly and thinking "you'd end my life in a heartbeat if it suited you, it's what you all do."

Were these differences part of the creative process that perhaps didn't make the cut, or the writer that did the novelization just treated it as an adaptation and welcomed his own differences to fit the storybook

I don’t know anything about the process of the Junior Novelizations. All I know is what I’ve heard and seen from y’all posting about them. It seems to me that whoever the “author” is worked with old, outdated drafts from our writing team, and he seems to have essentially been paid to format our work into prose. The differences from the show seen in the Novelizations are very frustrating to me in that they make the Novelizations fall under the “What If?” category — there seem to be things in them that we wound up taking out or retooling for various reasons, and I’ve seen that cause some confusion amongst the fans.

Heard from @neunhofferart that some people were interested in seeing storyboards from the Yaz/Sammy break-up scene. I can't show the whole thing, but here are some screenshots with captions.

I understand that some fans were upset by the break-up, but honestly, these 2 have had some glaring communication issues since S1, so it seemed only natural that all these unresolved issues would eventually come to a head. It's devastating, just like any other long-term relationship that comes to an end.

i am SO curious about everything gia. who suggested her? how did you decide what relationship she'd have with everyone? was there a lot of discussion about where she'd be placed in the dynamic?

I waaaaanna say that Gia was all Scott's idea, but it's been too long since we wrote S3 and I don't know if I can say that for sure.

Like adding any new character to the show, we had many discussions about who Gia was, where she fit into the lives of the others (especially Ben), and what role she was fulfilling for us that no other characters could. Ultimately, we decided that part of having her in the show was a great step for Ben's character -- someone who saw Ben in a completely different way than his Camp Fam saw him. It's like growing up and making new relationships -- like, I've had many discussions with my husband about how I'm not so sure we would have been friends in high school or college. But the fact that we met when we did, after we'd both done so much growing up and were new, better versions of ourselves than before, was so serendipitous. And that's how I see Gia and Ben's relationship. They know more complete versions of each other. She knows the tall version of him. She knows the more confident, post-Nublar version of him. She never met shy, twiggy Ben. So she also helps open the others' eyes to how Ben is now as opposed to how they remember him and know him.

More than Gia's relationship to Ben, we also wanted to make sure that she had her own story, her own wants and needs and her own problem to work through -- hence her relationship with Nonna, and Nonna being so terrified of dinosaurs whereas Gia found them utterly fascinating. I loved that we brought in the pyroraptor to help Gia have that small arc of coming clean to Nonna about her passions, and Nonna coming around to accepting all of Gia's truth. I also loved writing the scene where she tells Ben that she likes chairs. Gia knows who she is and what she is comfortable with, and she knows that the bigger adventure stuff isn't really for her. But she also understands how much Ben and the others needed to go after Brooklynn -- and she's confident in both herself and Ben that this long distance stuff won't break them.

I put off editing this one for a while, but this was my other favorite scene to board in Jurassic World Chaos Theory Season 3. Thank you @nickrocketrodriguez for the incredible writing on this episode.

(Again, disclaimer: Yes, I'm queer. Yes, I requested the scene that reveals that Sammy and Yaz broke up. As always, any weird, homophobic comments or interactions will result in a block).

The moment I read this part I knew I HAD to board it (thank you Mike for letting me), because it was written in direct parallel to a scene I originally boarded on Camp Cretaceous-- the scene where Ben realizes Yaz is finally going to try to confess her feelings to Sammy.

Not only did I think it was incredibly bittersweet that Ben was the first person to know they were dating and the first person to know they broke up, but there is also something incredibly emotional about their relationship coming to a full circle in this moment-- a crucial time for all of them as a Camp Fam.

I think it's easy to forget sometimes that they were all just kids when they first met, and a lot has changed since then. You forge a lot of relationships out of convenience as a teen--whoever you go to school with, whoever lives down the street from you, whoever you happen to be trapped with on a dinosaur infested island, etc..

But when when you grow up and begin choosing where you go in life, your experiences begin to change you, and sometimes your path begins to lead away from the childhood friendships and first loves that used to be the most important thing in your world.

I think this season asks some very important questions of both Sammy and Yaz's romantic relationship, and the N6 friend group as a whole that they weren't quite willing to face until this point-- are we the same people we were when we were younger, or have we changed too much to be in each other's lives anymore? What do we have to do if we want to stay together? Are we willing to DO that to stay together?

Anyway, I hope everyone continues to look forward to Season 4 coming out in November.

genuine question here, why did you call the show chaos theory that title? it's named after the maths theory iirc, and i was wondering how it ties into the show. sorry i keep asking so many questions!

Scott and/or Bethany would have a better answer for this question than me, but we definitely had some trouble nailing down a title for the show. Ultimately, I believe this was a combination of a title that would clear legal, along with the general vibes of the motif of "chaos" and how it harkened back to what how Ian Malcolm references it throughout the films.

Plus it sounded cool.

I am just absolutely floored at how much CT made me fall in love with Soyona Santos despite how villainous she was !! kudos to everyone involved in bringing her to (animated) life! how did the writing team approach writing the character? how much wiggle room was there to expand on her while keeping true to her limited Dominion screentime?

I think I’ve spoken about this a little before, so forgive me if I’m repeating myself!

We had a lot of wiggle room, actually. Colin and all the Jurassic franchise folks really allowed us to take that limited information from the film and use and expand what we wanted. Dichen was actually pretty instrumental in the formulation of the character, as well — as part of her prep for Dominion, she wrote this whole backstory that was pretty interesting and answered a lot of questions about Santos we didn’t even know we had. We did not take all of it, but we were inspired by so much of it — for instance, her introduction in “Troubled Waters.” I included a bit about how her mother was at the dig for the discovery of the Fighting Dinosaurs in Mongolia -- that was a bit Dichen thought up that I found fascinating and really informed the vibes of those scenes.

For a few nested questions (sorry, just super curious about it all). For Season 3, did it take a long time to sort out who would be part of "Team Malta" heading off to find Brooklynn? Was it always going to be a relatively even split? Did these decisions force any rewrites/changes for earlier seasons, e.g. Season 1? For example, I was shocked when Sammy wasn't on Brooklynn's side and based on "Camp Cretaceous" thought Yaz would be the one to be upset with Brooklynn. Looking back at "Chaos Theory" Season 1, though, each Camp Fam's Malta decisions seems very closely tied to: (1) whether they were shown having problems with their biological family (2) whether their flashback with Brooklynn showed her as "Brooklynn the friend" versus "Brooklynn the journalist", e.g. Kenji and Sammy both remember her working. Heidi (Neunhoffer) mentioned some of the Brooklynn flashbacks for Season 1 were changed or cut, so it just made me wonder if some of those flashback adjustments were made with the Malta split in mind. For a final question, what was the discussion involving the friendship development between Yaz and Brooklynn? It seems they've become a lot closer between shows. It's hard for me to imagine "Camp Cretaceous" Yaz ever choosing Brooklynn over Sammy, yet it seems to make a lot of sense for "Chaos Theory" Yaz to do so.

Woof. A hefty one. And from discussions over two years, so not sure these will be great answers. Let’s see…

1. The split between the group for Malta happened very organically, I felt. We discussed who would feel what for a very long time. If I remember correctly, the idea of the team splitting up didn’t come up until we were actually starting discussions for S3 in earnest. We knew we wanted to connect to Dominion from the beginning, so the group was always going to Malta, but the shape of that and what it meant for the characters on a personal level evolved over time. By the time we got to it, we were building upon what we already saw, so as far as I remember, nothing that happened in S3 necessitated any earlier rewrites.

(I believe was Heidi was referring to was maybe more things that got cut for time/vibes as opposed to things that were cut because of S3. The pipeline of how these things went would likely not have allowed for such adjustments. I could be getting mixed up, though.)

As far as the shocking decision and headspace for Sammy in particular, that was something we all got very passionate about once we got in the thick of Brooklynn’s lies and how they affected everyone. Sammy always being the one who kept the Camp Fam in touch and who always saw the bright side of things would have been a very easy choice for being Pro Brooklynn. But with everything she had been feeling and experiencing up to that point, that didn’t feel real for her. It would have kept in line with her sorta past self, but for where she was in S3, we really wanted to honor how all of Sammy’s issues would realistically make someone like her feel. Plus, it had the added bonus of being a bit of a twist to what you, the audience, might expect. With all that in mind, we had to do what we did.

I like how you lay out that Kenji and Sammy both saw Brooklynn a certain way and were dealing with similar issues. That was definitely part of the discussion and how they wound up being Team Let’s Go Home.

2. This is a bit harder to answer. It just felt right, especially with how much time has passed and how much the Camp Fam did still put into maintaining their friendship, even if it ultimately didn’t irl quite as well as they’d hoped. I think part of it, too (at least for me), was that in JWCC, so much of Yaz and Sammy was about building up to Yasammy, whether purposely or not. So when it came to JWCT, as much as we wanted to have that relationship be really core to the show and those characters, we didn’t wanna just repeat all of that stuff. We wanted to see remixes on the other relationships, too, and we found that Yaz and Brooklynn friendship to be particularly ripe for exploration. They’ve all grown up and grown closer and further and everything in between, so it just felt like another natural evolution to things.
