Happy Birthday to the most beautiful woman I know. She helped design schools, staffed them, ran them as the head principal of a few middle and high schools and she always led (still leads) with kindness, incredible encouragement, and silly grace. My childhood memories consist of reading non-stop at the school library or going to work on creative things at dad’s theatre because both just never went home. We lived at their schools. I also remember ice cream socials and more for students and staff... and it was strange to move out of state to hear that people were afraid of their principals. I had the best one. Love you, Mom. I’m tired. I am fortunate that after spending 21 hours driving and waiting in long lines (over a few days at different locations) to get vaccination tickets for family members, someone gave me a ticket... for myself. It doesn’t hurt. You’ll feel a pinch and slight soreness in the injection area by Day 2. But, in the 15 minutes that you’re held after receiving the vaccine, you’ll likely experience joy mixed with unexpected anger and sadness. This is for my friends who’ve lost moms, dads, brothers, sisters and loved ones. This is for my friend whose toddler tested positive today. This is for everyone. Do what you can. Just a flashback of me and one of my favorite people on the planet. On this day 6 years ago, @leximarmancowden visited @newyorkcity . I met her in 2008 because we trained together to become tour guides at @unistudios in Los Angeles. You know the movie sets in the area they call The Backlot at Universal Studios? Here they come, a few pics with Dad!!! It’s not yet midnight in Texas. It’s still Dad’s birthday. ❤️❤️❤️ I didn’t have a normal childhood and it was strange leaving college to realize that I am not like most people. I grew up around magic, glitter, kids, thousands of kids, music, laser lighting, spotlights, microphones, booing, cheering, more glitter... Dad was a Theatre Director. The theatre he helped design, the one where I so clearly remember tracing my feet across concrete lines while hearing dad say, “This will be my office,” that theatre was my home, and it was only fitting that the theatre would one day be named after him. Papa Z retired a few years ago. He now loves spending time with mom and my sister’s babies. Send him some love, if you’d like to!
