Last year I had an amazing opportunity to unleash creativity and came out of my comfrot zone by creating the character design tutorial for "Inspired by Nature".

The book, published by @3dtotal, just had it's premiere not so long ago, and is now available in the 3dtotal store!

Hello there! Just read your answer to having your art used as tattoos. I have seen other artists offering commissions in designing tattoos. Wouldn't that be interesting for you? People can have a legal design from you and you receive money?

May I ask why you don't want your prints used for tattoos?

Sure! Let me explain this.

First thing, most of my artworks are dedicated orders. People who ordered such illustration paid for the art to be done and it would be extremely unfair to let other people use the design they paid for. Selling tattoo tickets of such designs would be quite a nice way of passive income for me, but it would just be unfair, so I don't do that.

Second thing, and this is the thing I feel people need to understand the most - art is my full time job. As every adult I have such basic costs as cost of living (food, rent), taxes and healthcare. In the past when people asked, I just gave them permission, of course only in cases when they wanted to use my personal art. However in period of past years I receive more and more questions about it, and a lot of people just take my art and use it without my content too. Even tattooists take my art without permission and use it on "their" designs claiming the design is created by them.

People ask to use (it's nice they do, though!) or use my works without permisson despite the fact that I'm offering tattoo designs. I understand that not everyone can affort that but I believe that as the tattoo artist gets paid for his part of the job, so should I - without the design there won't be a tattoo.

Do these rule apply for all of my artworks? No. If it’s personal artwork then I will be more than happy to give you permission. However, it will also require symbolic fee. Why? For the same reason as above.

On the other hand, if I would give the permission to one person, then, to be fair, I should give it to another. Approaching it jokingly, in the next few years we could arrange a one-design tattoo convention.

Do you take commissions, specifically tattoo commissions, by chance? If yes, what are your prices like? (Sorry if this info is listed somewhere on your Tumblr, I'm on mobile and wasn't able to find it!)

I do take commissions and I do tattoo designs too! Prices of my works are always estimated individually, but at the moment starting price for the small design (a portrait for example) is 450 USD and for bigger (a full body animal/creature) is 650 USD.
