Tav: So, your last name is Dekarios? Gale: It is. Courtasy of my mother, the inimitable, dare I say it sometimes unavoidable Morena Dekarios. It's been so long since I've used it. 'Gale Dekarios' cuts a poor figure next to the wizarding prowess of 'Gale of Waterdeep.' Tav: Gale Dekarios⌠I think I like him more.

Last Line Tag Game
Thank you @burnt-by-marigolds for the tag! I'm back trying to write the next chapter of Fire & Moonlight, so I actually have a last line I can share for once!
âI canât believe my mother actually let them in.â Gale said, not even realizing he had spoken that out loud until Varanâs hand pulled him in defensively and the tiefling's gaze turned fiercely towards the house, looking for the source of Galeâs discomfort.
Right in the middle of the drama.
Absolutely no pressure tags: @nyxueaurelia, @optimisticgrey, @nymeriian, @auroraesmeraldarose and anyone else who wants to jump in!

ive never played baldurs gate 3 in my life but i just woke up from a dream where astarion had a little brother named bimbles but players fucking hated bimbles bc in the game astarion would care more about bimbles than the player so ppl started uploading videos where theyd kill bimbles and a video called â900 ways to KILL bimbles in baldurs gate 3â got like 10 million views and then bc of the backlash larian studios released a patch where astarion would kill bimbles early in the game if the player asked him too but heâd do it while shaking and sobbing in total anguish and ppl started posting videos of the scene where astarion kills bimbles with titles like âbaldurs gate 3âs BEST patchâ

Halsin Week fic "Protection"
A/N Prompt #5, but only fic 3 for me because I got busy! Act 2 - post Halsin recruitment. I did promise some Werebear stuff, so here's something! The silver necklace is a real item btw! I found it randomly exploring one playthrough. I canât remember what it was actually called, in the description it said it was made out of silver. This was a lot shorter then I intended, but I got really busy this week! I plan on doing just one piece for Halsin Week after this. A03: https://archiveofourown.org/works/66043669 Relationship: Halsin / OC Dark Urge (Varan) Tags: Werebear Halsin (Baldur's Gate) Summary: A scavenged silver pendant leads to a conversation between Halsin and Varan (DU) in the ruins of Reithwin.
Full fic under the cut!
Reithwin was a distorted echo of the town Halsin remembered from a century ago. The shadow-cursed had buckled the ground and twisted the roads into strange new pathways. It was harder to navigate then he thought it would be.
Varan had kept his word to Halsin, the paladin and his infected friends had succeeded in helping Halsin rescue Thaniel. Now Halsin had agreed to help them reach Moonrise, to discover the truth of this cult of the Absolute. They were just scouting through some of the ruined buildings when Astarion found a couple chests tucked away out of sight. Gale identified a couple of the items inside as magical and Shadowheart had taken it upon herself to disperse the loot. Varan was leaning against a crumbling wall, uninterested in the scene, he was watching the shadows. Halsin was trying to keep watch too, though even with Thaniel free again, Halsin found his senses were still dull with all the undeath and old dust around.
Gale and Shadowheart were talking about who best to give the items too as they walked over, closer to Varan and Halsin. Shadowheart was holding a necklace up, Halsin hadnât been listening close enough to have heard what magic it held, but he knew from the glint and the smell it was silver.
âMaybe Halsin could use it.â Shadowheart said, holding up the slim chain and pendant to the druid. Halsin hesitated, trying to decide how to respond in a dismissive way that didnât seem strange, but he didnât need to, as Varan quickly took the necklace from her hand, âWe can look over everything back at camp. Letâs get out of here.â
Shadowheart nodded and everyone quickly followed the paladin. Halsin watched as Varan stowed the necklace in a small pouch on his belt and couldnât help but feel exposed. There had been a look in Varanâs eye that Halsin hadnât expected, like the paladin had been protecting him. â Halsin had thought about simply ignoring the little moment. Going about their days normally. Varan hadnât said anything to the others. Halsin was sure if news he was a werebear had made it through the camp he would have heard by now. And Halsin wasnât sure how Varan could even know. And if Halsin had misinterpreted the look, and the gesture and Varan didnât know anything, if that had been coincidence, then Halsin bringing it up would be even more suspicious.
But Halsin knew that wasnât the case. He knew Varan was aware of his secret, Halsin just wasnât sure how the paladin did. TBut there had been something in the way Varan had come over, the way Varan had taken the pendant, Halsin was sure it had been more than impatience at Shadowheartsâ in rummaging.
After everyone was in camp and ready to rest for the night, Halsin went over to Varanâs little tent. Luckily the tiefling had camped a little bit away from the others, so their conversation might go unheard. âCan we talk for a moment?â Halsin asked.
Varan was organizing his equipment. He cast Halsin a look, like he knew what this was. âSure.â
Halsin hesitated despite the permission, standing and watching the paladin silently. Varan just continued going through his bag.
âWhy did you stop Shadowheart from giving me that necklace?â Halsin settled on. A smirk spread on Varanâs face, âI didnât take you to be so materialistic, Archdruid.â
âYou know thatâs not why Iâm asking.â Halsin corrected.
Varanâs smile stayed, but it softened. He stopped what he was doing and looked up to catch Halsinâs gaze. They stared at each other for a long moment. Halsin could see it somehow, laid out on Varanâs face.
âHowâd you know?â Halsin asked.
Varan scoffed, like he was about to laugh, then Halsin watched any amusement die on the tieflings face. Varan went back to looking through his bag, though Halsin was sure the paladin wasnât actually looking for anything. âIâve been around others like you before.â Varan said, slowly, âI could tell by the way you changed. The bear was different from the other forms the druids take.â
Halsin considered that. âA keen observation. Iâve managed to fool even other druids with my shifting.â
Varan looked a little surprised, âDid the Emerald Grove not know?â
Halsin shrugged, âSome of them did. Some didnât. I made no advertisements, but some, like you, worked it out.â
Halsin couldnât help his curiosity now, he hadnât heard of any other werebears around, though he had been isolated, âThe others you know, were they bears?â
âNo. He was a paladin of Selune.â Varan told him. Something in the tieflingâs voice was sharper.
Halsin nodded, understanding, âI know she bestows great gifts to wolves in her service.â
âThe same as Silvanus gives bears it seems.â Varan retorted.
Halsin was surprised at the tone. He fell silent for a moment, watching Varan thumb absently through a book he had grabbed from their scouting earlier.
âWhere is your friend now? Back in Baldurâs Gate?â Halsin asked.
âHe died years ago.â Varan said, tossing the book to the ground and returning to rummage in his pack.
Halsin saw in the tieflingâs expression that this was a sensitive topic. Varan looked like he wanted to be left alone.
âForgive me. IâŚas you intentionally avoid wearing silver, I thought perhaps he was still around to appreciate the gesture.â Halsin said, careful and his voice soothing as he could make it.
Varan froze, a little frown crossed his face and he looked himself over, like he hadnât realized that was true. âI suppose itâs just a habit now.â Varan said simply.
Halsin wished he could pry at that. At why a friend would want to avoid wearing silver for another enough that it became a habit. It implied a lot more than friendship. But Halsin could also tell that Varan wasnât going to give up any details like that tonight. Varanâs eyes were vacant and closed off.
âI wonât mention anything to the others.â When Varan spoke now it was a harsher tone and his words were curt, âYou can tell them or not I donât care.â
âThank you. I will consider it.â Halsin agreed, âAs Iâm sure you know, many people cast strong judgments on werefolk. However, your group accepted a vampire easily enough, so perhaps I shouldnât worry.â
âYou werenât with us when we found out Astarion was a vampire. It wasnât as friendly as it seems now.â Varan informed him. Before Halsin could reply, Varan had stood up and was walking past the druid to the rest of camp.

Taraâs collar
So, when we meet Tara in Act 3 and Gale is in our party, itâs mentioned in-game that she has a collar that identifies her (Tav: âThat symbol on the collarâŚGale, is this one yours?â Gale: âIt is! Itâs Tara!â)
You can clearly see it in her animations:

What I did not know (until I saw it in the Bg3 wiki) is that itâs not just decorativeâitâs actually a stealable/usable magic item. (Side note: Who would dare steal from Tara?!?! Who would dare??) The details are below:

I wanted to talk about the collar because as I was looking at it, I realized that there are three subtle details that show just how much Gale loves Tara:
If you look closely at the screenshot of Tara, youâll see that the leather/fabric portion of her collar is a deep purpleâa shade that matches Galeâs camp clothing. Of course he would give his closest friend his favorite color đ
Even though Gale knows Tara is a âfine wizard in her own right,â and that she can cast a fireball, he still imbued the collar with a very powerful Level 5 Telekinesis spell.
There is in-game dialogue where Gale talks about how, in order to survive during his yearlong exile, he had to absorb all of his personal magic items that were stored in his tower. So the fact that Taraâs collar still holds this enchantment means he did not want to âabsorbâ itânot even to extend his own lifeâbecause it is to be used for Taraâs protection đĽš
