On March 5th, 1946, Winston Churchill gives his speech "The Sinews of Peace" at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. One of his most famous delivered as Leader of the Opposition, in the speech he talks of his thoughts about the newly established UNO (United Nations Organization) and the United States rise to power as a superpower, and his worries about the ever present problems of communism and neo-fascism, including the world in post-world war II. He states that the United States and Great Britain are connected in a "special relationship", which is still a title often used towards the strong alliance between the two countries to this day.

Book Recommendations - History
The above books are set in different periods. There’s fiction, non-fiction; young adult, adult; graphic novel, novel; ancient history, modern history; classics and underrated novels. I’ve thrown in a few fantasy and steampunk books too. As an aspiring historian, I love history and as a reader, I adore stories set in different times and places.
To find out more about these books, keep reading!

The 400s BCE Indian text by Surya Siddhanta approximated Saturn’s diameter at 73,580 miles. The calculation was only 1% off from the currently accepted estimate of 74,580 miles.

This penny is from the year 1940. I’m sure everyone’s seen a coin from the past before but i just stopped to think about it for a second…
Do you realize that this penny could have been in the hands of Lucille Ball herself. Or James Dean or even Lou Abbott and Bud Costello. Or maybe a soldier from World War II who fought for our country bravely. Maybe he didn’t make it home. Maybe whoever had this penny had soo much luck and love, happiness, & life one day and then lost it all the next. Maybe this penny was all that someone had. Think about what this penny helped pay for. A stick of gum for a little boy in his button up shirt with his suspenders. Or a soldier sending a present or a letter home to his sweetheart… It’s from 1940 guys. That’s like 74 YEARS AGO. Think of all the hands this penny has been through. Not just in the year 1940 but in the years after it also…
Soo much history.
Soo many hands.
Soo many lives.
Just think about that.

This Is How Much The Female Portrait Has Evolved In The Last 500 Years
Art history books have a reputation of showcasing dead, white, European males — DWEM — and the (mostly white) women they handpicked as muses. Portrait after portrait reveals a woman’s face through a man’s gaze, casting a rather unsavory light on the tendency of artists to eroticize, objectify or idolize the female form.
See the full video for a striking look at the female portrait.
