I wish wizards were real so bad imagine coming out of a wal mart and seeing some guy with long robes and a big hat in the parking lot surrounded by wacky particle effects screaming some shit like "By the moon and the starlight, by the shield and the sword, I summon to me, my Honda Accord!" And then just getting into his car and driving off

personally i blame the wizard council

TRUE there is so much intersection. I think the wizard council puts too much emphasis on making a strict definition of what each magic user is in order to "justify" the need for all the different terms, but there really is a lot of overlap, it's not like different types of magic are mutually exclusive to where practicing one locks you out of another

That said, at least the wizard council fixed that one weirdly popular notion about wizard and witch being gendered terms

But anyway like yeah, "learning magic from a book makes you a wizard and brewing potions makes you a witch" so what if you learn how to brew a potion from a book. What then, hm? These definitions are arbitrary, its more about feeling.
