So one thing I’m grappling with is the fact I’ve gone long stretches without devoting time to my religion.
Today I started reading the Havamal (the Jackson Crawford translation) and out of the mouth of Oðin himself:
“145. it is better not to pray at all
than to pray too much;
nothing will be given that you won’t repay.
It is better to sacrifice nothing
than to offer too much.”
So yeah.
Dont feel guilty for not constantly being at your altar or offering things.

Hey, it's okay if you're a witch or a pagan who can't or doesn't like to be outside during part of the year. You can have love and respect for nature even if you aren't able to be out in it year-round.
I'm a pagan witch. Nature worship is a huge part of my spiritual practice. I also have poor heat tolerance because of my chronic illness and live in one of the hottest regions in the USA. Being outdoors for more than 15 minutes is a nightmare for me right now. And that's okay.
It's also okay if you have SAD or don't handle cold well or can't spend time outdoors in the winter for any reason. Or if your pollen allergies keep you indoors during the spring. Or if you have any other condition that makes certain seasons less fun for you. It's even okay if outdoor activities kind of suck for you yearround.
You're not a bad witch/pagan for doing rituals indoors when you need to. You're not a bad witch/pagan for looking forward to the difficult season being over so you can enjoy the outdoors again.
#I've been known to put my practice in hibernation mode for parts of the year#it's usually due to in part to heat sensitivity from meds and now a chronic illness#and from generally becoming burnt out by both of my jobs by then as they get extremely busy in the spring to late summer#i used to feel super bad about it but with the addition of the mystery chronic illness this year and still fighting with doctors over it#I've come to terms with just about everything in my life needing a break at some point#so why should my craft be any different?#witchy reminders

So, like, why are witches having such a hard time with this.
Shadow work was invented by Carl Jung, a psychologist.
Carl Jung was not a witch.
Shadow work was not created by witches. It was not created for witches. It is not witchcraft. It is psychology. It is a form of psychotherapy.
There are like, witches who are taking plain old facts as a personal attack here.
Witchcraft doesn't equal therapy and it shouldn't either. There's a reason why people have to go to school and get licensed to be therapists.

Counting Crows

As far as symbolism goes crows are a pretty mixed bag. To some they are the sacred messengers of spirits or deities and signs of good fortune, to others, they are an omen of bad luck, sorrow, and death. Witches have been divinating the crow's message, through various methods, for centuries and perhaps the most notable of these is the practice of counting crows. Granted, there are several variations of this, handed down through poems and literature, but what about counting crows as an in depth divination method? Sometimes the best offering you can give your deities is survival, and I mean that. The days clawed through? The nights wept into?
Keep going: it's enough
You are enough

You can casually work with deities.
You don't have to devote yourself to one (or a few) deities, or any at all.
You can ask for help from a deity that fits the bill for what you need help with.
That's how plenty of pagans in the past did it.
You go to doctors who specialize in different things based on what you need. Need help with your nose? Go to and ENT. Need help with your lungs? Go to a Pulmonologist.
Need help with love? Go to Aphrodite. Need help with developing a new skill? Go to Lugh. Need some wisdom? Go to Frigg.
and the list goes on. Even if you already devote yourself or work with specifically one or a few deities, you can still ask deities for help if you need their specific area of expertise.
