the worst part about this whole nightmare was that he had school going on at the same fucking time. sure, zar knew what it was like to live in fear and also assure he did well in school, but only he was at risk back then. now, he had people he cared about, all of whom were on some fucking list compiled by daisey and co-opted by daisey jr. now, he had people to worry about, from loved ones to kind strangers. and cassidy turner… she was one of those kind strangers. her and her brother were little rays of sunshine, as far as zar knew (well, her brother less so, if daisey jr was to be believed). one of the many people who didn’t deserve what was coming to them, and who was, presently, waiting inside the door of the arts building. “hey,” he said, approaching carefully. “you alright?”

cassidy was always so careful. she had made an effort ever since her early teenage years to not let important details slip through her fingers, no matter what. somehow, she had done just that. in the midst of the chaos looming over what seemed like the entire city of ashmont and despite the entire st. e’s police force constantly reminding them of curfew and the buddy system, it had completely slipped cass’ mind. Now here she was after spending too much time in a practice room, and now dangerously close to the final few minutes before she would get busted for being out, and she had forgotten to find a buddy. after failed attempts at calling anyone that would come rescue her, she assumed it’d be an overnight adventure in the theatre building. well, until another voice approached. “what?” she was caught off guard by the male, taking a moment to pull herself together. “oh- uh, maybe? i mean i forgot about the curfew and i forgot to ask my friend to stay with me. so. maybe not.”

when cass and cam’s step dad passed and their mom began her spiral, she made a vow to herself that she would do everything in her power to keep all of her siblings safe. as time went on and it became evident that they wouldn’t survive through the end of the school year without someone having to step up, cass and cam came together, promising to keep their family alive at any cost. when cam’s best friend for almost half of his life was arrested, cass stood by her brother. she was there for him through every hardship, holding his hand along for the ride, just like he had always been for him.

nothing was going to change now.

as the gossip blog released it’s reign of terror on the new line of victims, her heart stopped when she read the very name of her brother. her first instinct told her to find him, to hold onto him, just like he had been through the last few weeks. but as she continued reading, the pit in her stomach grew larger and larger, almost occupying her entire body. her eyes fell on a name she hadn’t heard in years, and had secretly celebrated never having to see or hear ever again. elliot meyer, the kid she had seen almost as much of as she did her own family through middle and high school, her brother’s best friend that she always put on a nice face for in person, but held on to her own not as nice feelings towards as time grew. she tried to like him, sure.  he protected cam where she couldn’t, treated him like a brother, but at what cost? he was rude at his core, and more aggressive than cam ever was. something about him always rubbed her the wrong way, and she could never put her finger on. well, until everything happened and he was taken into custody. 

but then, the gossip blog decided to push itself in and make nothing make sense once again. cam was the mastermind behind the very thing that got elliot arrested, and he got off scot-free. all this time, and he had been keeping the biggest secret from her. she had no reason to be mad at him, though. she was hiding plenty of things from him, so what kind of sister would she be if she got angry at him? she could only imagine how he felt already, there was no reason to make things worse. she knew one thing for certain though, and the tight feeling in her chest was the only ounce of proof she needed, telling her to find him. 

she didn’t even realize how fast she had probably been driving until she was parked in front of his apartment building. she didn’t even know if he wanted to see anyone, but she wouldn’t be able to live with herself if she left him  to go through this alone, not after everything he had done for her the last few weeks (and really all their lives, but the last few weeks were crucial). she stood in the hallway and moved close to the door, placing a few knocks on the wooden door. “cam? it’s me.” she spoke, words soft but loud enough to hopefully catch his attention. after a few moments without a response on his end, she reached for her phone, leaning against the door frame with a sigh. she pulled out her phone, resorting to text messages.

“burger,” cam agreed, sighing slightly in relief. okay, good. he had something concrete he could do now. he pulled up the nice burger place on the app, and added in a milkshake for her, too. anything to get her to feel a little better. as if a milkshake could replace her friend, cam mused, but still. once he was done, he sat against the headboard, fingers still carding through cass’s hair, an idle, soothing gesture. none of them deserved this, none of them at all, but least of all cass. the two of them had already been through enough shit, but cam… well, cam probably deserved this karma. but he didn’t want to think about it, didn’t want to think about what would happen to him if his secret got out. the thought was utterly paralyzing. 

“i’m…” cam swallowed, keeping his eyes trained on his lap. “i’m worried, but i’m actually.” this was the perfect time, he realized, to tell her what had been going on. he folded his hands together, more to do something with them than anything else. “there’s. something i’ve meant to tell you for a while. i just figured it out.” and there it was, that stab of fear that was, really, completely unfounded. this was cass, who would love him no matter what. and, and this wasn’t a bad thing, which cam kept repeating to himself, over and over. it was a little hard to believe, when the word gay darted around in his skull like all the other bullshit things kids called him in school. it was like muscle memory, a psychological flinch. he couldn’t help that fear, but he knew… he knew he’d have to get over it, sometime. or else it was another reason to hate himself forever. cam had been quiet for a long moment, so he turned to his sister, and steeled himself. “i’m. cass, i’m gay.” the words felt like jumping, and a pit opened in his stomach as he went into free fall. 

brown eyes practically burned into the wall in front of her as she stared off, head now carefully placed in the lap of her brother. it was a place they found themselves frequently while they were growing up, sometimes roles reversed, but always comforting. there were days when cass wondered what either of them would have done had they not been born together, had they not had the built in best friend that came out of having a twin. she didn’t like to think of that world often, but it made her wonder, seeing as how unstable she seemed to be without the company of her brother. she just hoped and prayed that he was getting on better than she was. 

cass could feel a sudden feeling of tension from cam as she sat with him. somehow, even without telekinetic abilities, the twins were still able to feel each other’s pain, worry, frustration. their hearts were connected, basically, and cass could feel this pain clear as day. it was a pain she had felt radiating from him for years, but she could never determine it, and felt it wasn’t completely her place to confront him with. she had always figured there was something lingering from the pain of their parents, and it had just never ceased. of course, there was something different about this particular pain, but she was unsure. then, the words left his mouth, and she understood. almost immediately following the words, she sat up from her lying down position and enveloped the taller boy into a hug- one that dripped with love and protection for her brother. “i love you. i’m so proud of you.”

HOLDEN CASS WEDDING AU LMAO. SINCE HE PROB IS GONNA RUIN THAT

can we get a big ol f in the chat 

as of right now cass doesn’t have a dress (but she’s looking 👀). it ends up being princessy and what have you because despite cass being a full adult, she’s still a child on the inside and has wanted nothing more in life than a “cinderella” dress of her own ( x, x ). she’s going to live out that fantasy, dang it. the venue ends up being something real cute, like something you’d see on pinterest, but definitely not in a church. it’s got great spaces for instagram pictures though, and that’s the important part of all of this tbh.

cass was nervous about a larger wedding. she didn’t have much extended family, and really just kept to her immediate family with her siblings. obviously her siblings were there, and her grandma came without hesitation. the real crowd came from holden’s mom, being the woman she is that invites everyone she can (shoutout to mama woods for being a legend). it ends up being a fairly good sized wedding. the ceremony is traditional, as to appease the older crowd that’s attending (and probably holden’s mom). cass asks cam to walk her down the aisle. her sister, melody is her maid of honor. cass cries a lot bc she is a big ol baby. like she doesn’t stop crying the whole time it’s stupid. she’s in heels but she still has to stand on her toes to reach holden for the kiss. 

the reception was made to be a bit more modern, and basically a party to make the younger crowd happy (considering the grandparents will leave after the first hour of the reception prob). it’s very likely that a choreographed dance is squeezed in at the beginning (who dances? i can’t decide). the first dance is cute but also still funny just because of the height difference. it’s still very cute though. there’s a photo booth area. the rest of the night is literally just a big dance party and it’s a blast. the whole wedding is 10/10 and also gets gr8 footage for a wedding video for her channel bc clout.

“i was (and still am??) the poster child for high school theatre kid. i checked all the boxes in the stereotype and i was thriving.”

parenthood: is there anyone you’re not biologically related to that you consider ‘family’?

“my step sibling. they’re just as much family as my real siblings are.”

dangerous liaisons: which language would you most like to learn?

“i used to be obsessed with anastasia and it made me want to learn russian. i mean, tell me THIS isn’t the most beautiful thing you’ve ever heard and that you DON’T want to learn it in the original language.

“ive got a lot of eyebrow. it’s not necessarily weird but it’s there, and i dig it.”
