i don't really know how to break this to anyone but it always kills me when i see otherwise well thought-out ff14 meta mention thancred's ability to hold his breath for 10 minutes as a real genuine canonical thing. i regret to inform you that it's completely made up for the english language version of the game and i know this without even having to check because it's a blatant reference to the classic point and click adventure game secret of monkey island, wherein the pirate captain asks the aspiring pirate main character guybrush threepwood if he has any special skills that will make him useful as a member of the crew and his response is 'i can hold my breath for 10 minutes!'

this is further emphasized by the next spot of optional dialogue thancred gives which involves another of his skills being the crafting (or selling? idr) of fine leather jackets, which is a long-held running gag of the monkey island games and lucasarts games of the day as a whole

the origin of this quote was so well known for so long i never bothered to assume people didn't know but. i'm sorry you had to find out this way

He learns a lot in his time from hibernating and when he wakes up from hibernating. He's a sweet boy and has great leadership skills. He's also an idiot (affectionate)

(Spoilers ahead) He is a catboy who is your (as in the player character's) biggest fan. He's a nerd and a geek. He tried to pretend to be evil but failed miserably because he's a terrible liar and also such a good boy. Most of his plans involve self-sacrifice. He decided to put himself to sleep as the guardian of a magical tower, to be woken up from stasis one day in the far future. Anyways then he ended up traveling back from that future in order to stop a calamity, became the leader of a society in a land teetering on the edge of an apocalypse, accidentally kidnapped the souls of some of the player character's allies, and eventually ends up merging with his original self, waking him up from stasis in the process. Also he's technically royalty. So vote for him!
