Helpful wheelchair etiquette tips, keeping in mind disability isn't a monolith and some people have different preferences:
When talking, it's really cool and nice when people ask if they can move to a bench or seat or whatever to sit down. This is the ideal for me personally, we're on the same level and you're probably comfier. Standing is fine too though, just don't kneel or duck cause that's weird.
Most of us can open doors just fine and are really good at it. It's a bit of an awkward pain for both of us if you try and open a door that I don't need help with. If you see someone actually struggling with it though, like if it's too heavy or whatever, you're fine to ask.
Speaking of "help" there's actually not that many instances of using wheelchairs that requires the help of a stranger. I've needed it twice in a year and a half of full time wheelchair use. Unless someone's stuck in gravel or stuck with one caster in a flower bed or something, they probably don't need help and if they do they'll ask.
If someone has a decorated chair, it's totally fine to say it looks cool, you like it, whatever. Most chair decorations are DIY or bought from small artists and I don't know if I've met a chair user with a decorated chair who isn't proud of their chair.
Unless they're showing off, don't comment on their chair skills. Please just don't. When you're first learning it's such a mortifying ordeal to crash, and when you get good at it it's like praising someone for being good at walking. And the "speed demon do you have a license" jokes are really stale.
Once you're friends with a wheelchair user, you'll generally be able to suss out what that person is okay with and what they aren't. I definitely have a different comfort level of jokes and behavior that I consider acceptable and fine from friends that I'd tell a stranger off for.

Fanfic recommendations part three: Season 7 fix-its
Some of these stories are post season 7 finale, some of them take place during season 7 and diverge from canon. Season 8 who? We don’t know her.
I’ve read and enjoyed all of these stories, they are all worth the read.
(By the way this is a big category, so this post is huge)

Oh I’m so glad you went in that direction with exes as roommates au!! It’s just... idk, so right!! Can’t wait to see what’s next, I’m sure you are gonna hurt me, but I’m also sure I’m gonna like it 🖤
Also, incubus au???? Really hot, but god I love the relationship moments and soft sasuke 🥰💕 and poor Mikoto...
I cannot lie and say there won’t be some hurt/angst but it all ends well
And I’m glad! With incubus au I didn’t want to change Sasuke so much just cuz he’s an incubus 😊

The barkeep came back with a bottle of red alcohol. It didn’t look special. The only thing that was out of the ordinary was the smile Karura had.
Definitely more mischievous than it was warm.
She poured two shots. “Ready?”
Sasori eyed her with great suspicion. “What’s this?”
“A shot.”
One. He meets her eyes.
Two. She nods her head.
Three.

Chronically ill people who need opioids (or any other medication) to have any sort of quality of life deserve access to their medication without doctors (and anyone else) using opioid addiction as an excuse to deny patients controlled medication for severe chronic pain. even though denying them and stopping their meds suddenly can actually lead to them self medicating and getting addicted to street drugs.
Addicts, specifically addicts with mental or physical health issues, deserve treatment and support without people blaming them for the opioid crisis and blaming them for chronic pain patients being denied opioids.
Instead of pitting chronic pain patients and addicts against each other, instead of blaming each group for the opioid crisis, how about we try to fix the broken system that is failing these people, increasing addiction rates and increasing the number of chronic pain patients who are not getting their conditions managed as they should be.

please please please get a shower chair if you struggle with standing in the shower or getting up from sitting on the bathtub floor. it is so worth it. they are relatively cheap and you can get them from walmart, amazon, etc. if you take my advice on anything let it be this. get a shower chair!!!! (you also don’t need any tools to put them together, I was able to put the one together that I got for my uncle when he was first diagnosed with cancer without any trouble! and I’m not good at putting things together like that usually).

The weirdest guy I ever met in a church was this boy who referred to “Buzz Aldrin and his husband” going to the moon. I was completely baffled, and when I asked if he’d misspoken, he got really angry and accused me of being deliberately ignorant of the facts. It turned out that he was somehow comvinced that Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were married. It took five Wikipedia articles to convince him otherwise.

Soooo I’m still on my sasusaku roll so I just subscribed to your patreon and the roommates au broke my heart in all of the wonderful and beautiful ways. Are you planning on writing another part? I love the ending of chapter 3, but I became sooo invested in the story I just can’t let it go yet 🥺
Omggg 💕
Yes I’m actually in the middle of writing the next part of the roommates au
I was having slight issues with the intro to chapter 4 like I scrapped the original but it is in the works. I’ve just been having a tough time lately but I’m trying to get an update for everything
And yes exes as roomies au has a special place in my heart 🥺 I really got into my feels with that one which is shocking cuz the original idea was pure crack and it was supposed to be a comedy but I decided to go in a different direction
I’m glad you’re enjoying it ☺️

Hello everyone
I had to write down stuff for my doctors about what I had to deal with today and I decided to share it with you to keep everyone posted about what’s going on in my life.
I’m feeling loads better but I still need to rest up some more ☺️
I copied and pasted what I wrote below. Heads up, I talk about my health concerns and mention an anxiety attack.
02.17.2021
So earlier today at like 5:47am I had a really bad migraine. I took some meds when I checked in at work and attempted to sleep it off before my morning shift officially began. (I was already dealing with a fibromyalgia flare up)
I woke up a little before 7am and my migraine had gotten worse and my hands were numb and I was extremely confused as to why I was in my family’s car and when I attempted to talk my words would only come out in a weak garbled mess. All of this triggered an anxiety attack which made my usual chest pain even worse which of course did nothing to help my anxiety because at the time I didn’t understand it was an anxiety attack and it just reminded me of the pain I get when my heart is acting up or when I have an acute PE.
Luckily the hand numbness went away after 20 minutes and I was finally able to recognize that I was having an anxiety attack and nothing more serious was going on with my chest pain.
I went to my morning shift while only dealing with my headache and light sensitivity. I did call off from my afternoon shift. (I work split shift)
I already had an appointment to check my PT/INR and I’m still therapeutic so that’s at least one (1) thing I didn’t have to worry about.
I slept in the car again during my mother’s appointment for the day and she made sure I took more medicine and bought me food which I ate when I got home. After eating I went to sleep and slept until 10:34pm.
When I woke up my migraine pain was so much better, but I still had some confusion. For some reason when I woke up my first instinct was to grab my PPE and use it in order to leave my bedroom and complete my tasks in my own house. I had to take a moment and re-focus and remember where I was.
I took some more medicine and I ate the rest of the food from earlier and I plan to shower and go back to bed.
Luckily they already canceled in person reporting and classes for tomorrow because of the weather so I’m getting paid and don’t have to worry about taking a sick day.

If you're in Texas and you're trying to stay warm during the power outages, here's some tips from an Illinoisan currently living in Texas. Obviously battery powered heaters or heated blankets can be great, as is a fire in a fireplace. But if those aren't options for you, try:
1. You can use tape around the edges of doors and windows to prevent drafts, or use towels or blankets to stuff around it. We currently have blankets taped up covering our doors and towels taped over most of our windows. Avoid going into rooms with an outside wall or multiple/large windows, they're going to be colder.
2. If you're getting power back every now and then, fill a sock about 2/3 full with rice, lentils, or dry beans, stick it in the microwave for about 30 seconds at a time, checking to see when it's nice and warm. Then put it at your feet under a blanket.
3. If you have a gas stove, boil a pot of water. You can make tea or soup with it, but even just boiling water will help warm and humidify the home a little. Good for avoiding nosebleeds.
4. Set all your faucets to drip. Moving water in the pipes keeps them from freezing, which is good because you don't want them to burst.
5. Got a significant other? Kids? Pets? Cuddle them. Never underestimate how much it helps to have another warm body sharing a blanket with you.
6. Do NOT drink alcohol. Yes, it makes you feel nice and warm. It also causes you to LOSE body heat.
7. Move around! Even just bicycling your legs will get your blood flowing, which will help warm you up. Then you can go right back to bundling up.
