People not understanding that shen yuan is a layered and complex character will always be my 9/11 yes he's a nerd who gets way too invested in trashy porn. He's also an extroverted person who makes friends wherever he goes. Sure he's sweet and kind to the point it's self sacrificing, but he will kill you if it's necessary. Sorry you can't place him into a neat little sterotype for a danmei protag, he's all over the place! I love him that way!

“Secret identities and secret feelings” prompts
☾ “You don’t know me.” - “I know how you laugh. I know how you breathe. I don’t care about your name.”
☾ helping a masked vigilante escape a wound and realizing you recognize the shape of their hands.
☾ they save your life. every time. you don’t know why. but they always show up, right when you need them.
☾ “Why do you keep hiding your face?” - “Because if you saw it, you’d never look at me the same.”
☾ arguing with them during the day, dancing with them at night, never knowing it’s the same person.
☾ “Have you ever loved someone you weren’t supposed to?” “Every night.”
☾ the mask comes off mid-fight. everything stops.

Please, Tumblr folks, do not sleep on the Leviathan anime that comes out tomorrow. Netflix have done absolutely nothing to promote it - there hasn't even been a proper trailer released.
It's based on a WONDERFUL series of books by Scott Westerfeld, and is fit to burst with alternate history, steampunk aesthetics, queer romance, mech suits, bio-engineered creatures, including a flying whale, plus it has music by Joe Hisaishi. It was created in direct collaboration with the original author AND illustrator, Keith Thompson.
Please, give it the love it deserves 🙏

Grumpy x Sunshine Prompts
⸺ “Why are you always frowning?” - “Why are you always... existing near me with joy?”
⸺ “Smile more.” - “You smile enough for the both of us.”
⸺ “You’re not actually mad at me.” - “I’m always mad at you.” - “You’re literally smiling right now.”
⸺ “Let me in. Stop pretending you don’t care.” - “I’m not pretending.” - “You brought me soup when I sneezed once.”
⸺ “You hate everyone but me.” - “Don’t test that.”
⸺ “I like when you laugh.” - “I don’t laugh.” - “You just did.”
⸺ “If you punch someone for being rude to me again, I swear—” - “—they deserved it.”
⸺ “You keep acting like you don’t like me.” - “Because when I do, I fall too hard. And I don’t know how to do soft.”
⸺ “You're like a grumpy little cactus.” - “And you’re like a hyper golden retriever. We shouldn’t work.”
⸺ “Then why do we?” - “…I don’t know. But I’m not letting go.”

forever thinking about that tweet I saw from a jp dcmk fan who said that the nagano trio strike an intricate balance with each other where any two of them can keep the third one in check from doing anything too rash but the instant even one of them is gone from the equation the other two just fly off the rails immediately

Character Arcs I’m Tired of Faking Enthusiasm For...
✧ Not every character needs to become a better person. Some of them should just become more competent at being terrible. That’s growth too.
✧ Please stop giving us the “emotionally repressed character learns to love” arc where “love” = doing everything for the other person. That’s not growth, that’s codependence in a nice coat.
✧ I want to see someone go from “I must prove myself” to “actually, your approval means nothing and I will now do crimes for fun.”
✧ Characters who don’t change in personality or beliefs but slowly gain the tools and safety to stop apologizing for being exactly who they are.
✧ Characters whose whole arc is realizing they don’t want power, they want peace, and walk the hell away from the plot like it’s a cursed game of Monopoly.
✧ Characters who never had a breakdown because they didn’t have time, and their arc is literally just finally allowing themselves to fall apart.
✧ Give me someone who’s super idealistic at the start, gets crushed by the world, but instead of going evil… they just get smarter and pettier.
✧ Characters who don’t realize they were the villain until someone quietly says “you hurt me” and it destroys them more than any monologue ever could.
✧ More arcs that don’t end in redemption. Just recognition. “Yeah, I did awful things. That’s part of me. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m changing anyway.”
✧ Or arcs that start with “I will do anything to be loved” and end with “I love myself enough to stop begging.”

Neurodivergent assassin who very casually uses their weapons as stim.
Turning on and off the safety of their gun. Tapping and spinning their dagger. Watching the poison in the vial move as they flip in and then back.
Nobody says anything because...well they're an assassin.
Turns on safety, presses trigger, turns off safety repeat.
People around them are in constant fear.
Chewing the end of their poison tipped dagger when they try to figure out a plan.
Wash their hands too much cause they don't like how sticky blood is.
However overtime it becomes a weird single to others.
Everyone is anxious trying to figure something out and they hear a little "click click" and it's just slightly calming to know that they have this person there and they are thinking of a plan.
Someone hands them a drink but it flows just a little too weird and they are like, "hmm that's poison" then chuck it because they have built up immunity.
No table that doesn't have something carved into it.
Never a situation where they don't have enough bullets because this person takes out the cartridge and puts it back as stim.
They take apart their guns and put them back over time being crazy fast and efficient with it.
Just give me a neurodivergent assassin/spy.

Character/Story Tropes We Need More Of #1
⛧ Characters who genuinely suck at magic/combat/whatever the “thing” is but are still allowed to go on the adventure because they bring snacks, emotional stability, or a shovel.
⛧ Best friends who stay best friends even after one of them gets a god-tier promotion and the other one is just vibing in their mortal mediocrity.
⛧ Emotionally intelligent villains who are like “yeah I had trauma but I got therapy, I’m evil for other reasons now.”
⛧ Main characters with low charisma but high wisdom who don't win hearts but do win battles of logic and slowly get respected by being right all the time.
⛧ The “smart one” who's not a secret badass, not hiding a tragic past, just genuinely obsessed with fungi or cryptography and refuses to hold a sword ever.
⛧ Fantasy worlds with actual working public transportation. I’m so serious. Where’s the transcontinental dragon train or goblin-run subway system.
⛧ Teen protagonists who don’t want to save the world because they're already dealing with algebra and anxiety and one more prophecy will break them.
⛧ The hot morally gray character who thinks they’re mysterious and broody but is actually very bad at lying and everyone sees through them immediately.
⛧ Introverted characters who stay introverts. They don’t “learn to open up,” they just learn to mask better and set boundaries. That’s growth too.
⛧ Characters who actively un-romanticize violence instead of getting turned on every time someone pulls a sword. Please. Therapy.
⛧ Platonic soulmates. Yes, the “I’d die for you” bond, but no kissing, just trauma-bonded telepathy and shared snacks.
⛧ Chosen ones who are like, "you know what? no." and hand the glowing destiny sword to someone else while they go open a bakery.
⛧ Divorced parents who co-parent like competent adults instead of using their child as a battlefield.
⛧ Neurodivergent characters written like they’re people and not teaching moments or quirky plot devices. Bonus if they’re not even labeled, just exist.
⛧ Healers who have zero bedside manner but are really good at their job. “Oh, you’re dying? Sucks. Hold still.”
⛧ Female characters who are allowed to be weird, loud, gross, hairy, messy, and not secretly beautiful the whole time.
⛧ Lazy heroes. Not out of cowardice. Just genuinely do not want to get out of bed. They still save the world. Eventually. After coffee.
⛧ Stories where someone who did awful things doesn’t get redemption, but does get held accountable and still chooses to be better anyway.

Censorship of gay media is always unfortunate but it's particularly sad seeing the Chinese government crack down on danmei when so many danmei writers put their love for their nation and culture clearly in their works

Quiet Ways Your Character Is Hiding How Lonely They Are
» They fill every silence with noise. Music, podcasts, the TV left on in an empty room. Anything but the sound of their own thoughts. Because when it’s quiet, they remember how long it’s been since someone asked how they’re really doing.
» They say “I’m just busy” to explain why they’re always alone. Busy is a shield. Busy is respectable. Busy means you’re doing fine, right? Never mind that their calendar is full of things they don’t care about, or that they go entire days without a single real conversation.
» They become the "fun one" in every group. If they can keep everyone laughing, no one will ask what’s underneath. No one will notice they’re always the one texting first. The one who plans. The one who keeps the group chat alive like it’s the only pulse they’ve got.
» They talk about “being independent” like it’s a fucking badge, not a scar. They say they like doing things alone...that it’s freeing or empowering. But sometimes, halfway through dinner at the restaurant, they look up and feel the weight of every empty chair.
» They text people just to “check in.” They say it’s to be nice. To be thoughtful. But really, they’re hoping someone will take the hint. That someone will say, “Hey, how about you? Want to talk?” Most of the time, no one does.
» They overwork themselves until they’re too tired to feel. It’s not just ambition, It’s escape. If they stay busy enough, maybe they won’t have time to notice how long it’s been since they were hugged without having to ask for it.
» They laugh off affection like a joke. They make sarcastic comments when someone is kind to them. They brush off compliments. Because letting that warmth in, might break them open more than they can handle.
» They show up for everyone else, but never ask for help. They’re the one who listens. The one who drives across town at 2 a.m. But when they need someone? They go silent. Because needing things makes them feel like a burden and they’ve been dropped enough times to stop reaching.
» They start talking to themselves. Just comments under their breath. Conversations in their head that never make it out loud. Because at some point, they stopped expecting anyone to respond.
» They tell themselves this is just a phase. That they’re fine. That it’ll pass. That everyone feels like this sometimes. But they can’t remember the last time they felt truly seen, and they’re starting to forget what it felt like.

THISSSSS
SHINICHI IS MAMA'S BOY
yukiko claims that conan is her "grandfather's older brother's daughter's cousin's uncle's grandson" which implies that shinichi looks more like yukiko's side of the family because otherwise, it would look suspicious that conan is a spitting image of yusaku when he is supposed to be a cousin from yukiko's side

I wish i have the brain power to follow through this

Ooo, so close Yukiko, but he’s actually your grandfather’s brother’s daughter’s cousin’s uncles great-grandson. (Or her father’s brother’s etc.)
Okay look, her grandfather’s brother’s daughter is just her grandfather’s niece. Now the rest of them have a couple of different people they could be but one person that her grandfather’s niece’s cousin could be is just another one of her grandfather’s nieces/nephews. And one of that person’s uncles is of course her grandfather. And one of her grandfather’s great grandsons would be her son, Shinichi. Honestly it’s so close I wonder if it’s not just a translation error and she did actually get it right.
