Extremely Exhausted Starters
“You. Rest. Now.”
“You took five steps and need to sit down again?”
“I’m absolutely fine, I just need to sit down.”
“I just need to sit-what do you mean I’m already laying down?”
“Your eyes aren’t focusing. Just close them for ten minutes.”
“Write one sentence on this piece of paper, and then I’ll let you up.”
“I just need a breather, that’s all. Maybe ten. No fifteen.”
“We’re both so exhausted we can’t even argue about not being exhausted.”
“When I said I needed five more minutes I meant it more like hours.”
“… no… I’m tired… let me sleep… I don’t want to get up.”
“We need to get out of the heat, you’re starting to look sick.”
“You can’t hide those shaking hands from me. You need to stop.”
“I’m just a little cold, I’m okay, really. Let me sit with a blanket or something.”
“Moving…? No I’m good thanks.”
“Gravity has a hold on me of which I have not the strength to break.”
“Was… was that actually there? That wasn’t there was it?”
“I’ve had no energy for three days.”
“You worked yourself so hard that you’ve been sentenced to three days of bed rest.”
“Listen I can… I can get up. It’s fine.”
“If we’re both in this state, we both really screwed up somewhere huh?”
“I have energy for exactly one more person of favourable standing, and going the hell to bed. With or without that person, bed is happening.”
“You’ve struggled to move anything for the last hour.”
“This is what happens when you over exert yourself.”
“You were almost dead from pushing it too far!”
“I went a little overboard sure… but I’m still alive. So shh.”

Conversation
Carolina: You cut through my armor! It was a gift from my father!
Sharkface: I'm sorry. I'm sure your father was a great man.
Carolina: I hated my father!
Sharkface: Oh, well, then I'm sure your father was a total prick.
Carolina: HOW DARE YOU TALK ABOUT MY FATHER LIKE THAT?!

Whether you imagine it to be angsty or funny, the fact we never got to hear Wash’s shrieking when he finds out Carolina faked her death is a tragedy.

SENTENCE MEME ⟶ STEVEN UNIVERSE / SEASON ONE ( 01.01 – 01.10 ) always feel free to tweak the sentence to fit your muse.
“This can’t be happening! This has to be a dream!”
“Don’t they have laws for this?”
“Ugh, kids these days!”
“We should probably find it before anyone gets hurt.”
“We’ll take care of protecting humanity.”
“I need to practice really hard so I can dance like a tree.”
“So I’m supposed to work really hard and not try at all at the same time?”
“It was funnier last time.”
“Sunset –– my favorite time of day.”
“The sun goes down, and the second sun gets bigger and bigger in the sky.”
“He probably broke it, or lost it, or dropped it in the ocean by now.”
“I almost waffled your face!”
“It’s like a dad museum.”
“I like to think of myself as someone would golf.. eventually.”
“If every pork chop were perfect, we wouldn’t have hot dogs.”
“Did you order a load of bread with a stamp on it?”
“It’s a novelty backpack shaped like a cheeseburger.”
“You’ve really got to take this seriously!”
“I just want everyone to know my plan also would have worked.”
“It’s not too late to save this piece of history.”
“You handled everything great under pressure.”
“That thing’s too good for me to eat alone.”
“It’s not healthy, but it’s in a stack, so I guess you could say it’s a balanced breakfast.”
“She organized everything, isn’t it awful?”
“You’re completely missing the point of this.”
“I guess I dreamed too big.”
“Have you seen my pants?”
“We used to go everywhere together.”
“I wear the pants in this relationship.”
“Just go make people eat fries.”
“Let’s go be kids!”
“This used to make me so happy, but now it’s just giving me whiplash.”
“I protect humanity from magic and monsters and stuff.”
“You work away your life, and what does it get you?”
“You’re a tough kid for putting up with it as long as you did.”
“As soon as I bared my butt, I knew he’d crack.”
“As greasy in death as he was in life.”
“I’m not sure what that is, but I like it.”
“Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.”
“Is that a thing you can do now?”
“It’ll be over sooner if you just give him what he wants.”
“[Name], I blame you for this.”
“I’m an adorable cat monster.”
“Always listen to me, and never listen to [name].”
“It’ll mess up my funky flow.”
“Quit being a jerk and help.”
“That’s what happens when you hang out at the beach and don’t swim and don’t have friends. You look at boats.”
“Tons of horrible accidents happen here every day.”
“Whatever it is, you probably shouldn’t touch it.”
“I carried you while you took a nap.”
“How could you possibly think that was a good idea?”
“I’m not going to say anything, but I expect you to know that that was wrong.”
“What a gross misuse of safety equipment and your tax dollars.”
“Am I the cruelest creature on the planet?”
“You can’t let anyone make you feel like garbage.”
“He’s awful because he hurt me specifically.”
“I can’t believe you’ve been sneaking off to this circus of violence.”
“This is how you’re supposed to act in the desert.”
“There’s nothing out here that can harm you.”
“Ohh, you just wanted attention.”
“Get your hands out of that thing’s mouth.”
“I feel like you really get me.”
“It’s probably some kid trying to sell me lava insurance.”
“You came all this way to see lil ole me?”
“All you gotta do is catch it in your mouth.”
“Sorry for using the same pun twice.”
“I had to eat a whole pizza by myself!”
“Did all of that mean nothing to you?”

carolina coming back from a hard mission and wanting to do nothing else but find york and exist near him – but she looks everywhere around the mother and can’t find him even though everyone swears ‘he was just here.‘ she gets more and more frustrated; she knows he’s not out on a job – she checked the boards, twice – but even north and washington haven’t seen him.
she turns in her armor and weapons and gear but eventually, grudgingly, she returns to her bunk. she gets in the door, slams her fist into the keypad to lock it behind her and then stops because, hang on, there’s two open, full beer bottles set out on the table in a small auto-chill cooler that definitely wasn’t there before. there’s a little post-it stuck onto one bottle that has ‘shower?’ and a smiley face written on it with black ink now bleeding from the condensation, and there’s a pair of familiar gold-and-black sweatpants hanging over the back of the nearest chair.
and then she hears it coming from the bathroom, muffled by the constant hush of shower water: that god-awful country song that he’s been singing all day, so off-key that he's got to be doing it on purpose, the one that he was singing to her this morning before she’d even had her coffee.
she feels her muscles let go and the ache in her shoulders release, and she takes in a deep breath. that knot of anger, disappointment, resentment – everything she carries out of the job – loosens and she has to lean her palms on the table to feel rooted as that backbone of frustration leaves her. it takes another minute of silence before she feels righted again, and another minute after that for her to strip out of her boots and under-armor gear. she’s naked when she slides open the bathroom door, and through the haze of steam he reaches a wet arm out from the shower and leads her to him, still singing, though softer now.
here, there’s no armor, no politics, no objectives, no allegiances. here, they aren’t allies or freelancers or weapons. here, the only voices inside their heads are their own; here, the only thing they care about is within arms’ reach.

“Wash,” Carolina started, “What is that?” The soldier in grey and yellow stood up quickly, eyes wide as he held up a hand, “Now boss, I know it looks kinda bad-” “We both define bad in different ways, Wash.” “-But trust me on this! It’s a great idea. Last week, York did the unthinkable!” “We all saw it coming.” “I didn’t! I’m the only one who- He pranked the DIRECTOR and blamed it on me!” [1 of 5]
Carolina rolled her eyes. She remembered seeing the Director’s face as the hot pink paint fell all over him while they were receiving intel on the location of the insurgents. The man’s eyes were wide before they narrowed in rage. What happened next would be for another story, but for now, she returned her attention to the young soldier. “So what are you doing to get back at him?” She asked. Once she was told, she said, “Oh, we can do worse than that.” “… How worse?” “Much worse.” [2 of 5]
Later that day, York was seen naked and soaking wet with- feathers? Wait, were those feathers on his body? And why was his hair green??- dashing after an armored Washington. The brown haired agent’s face was red, and it grew even more red once he got into the cafeteria, groaning as all of the other 48 agents and staff saw him and erupted into laughter. [3 of 5]
“Best prank ever,” Wash grinned, fist bumping with Carolina as the woman pulled out a camera to take pictures to be used as blackmail, “Of all time?” She asked and Wash shook his head, “Alright, maybe not of all time, but it’s pretty close.” “You do know that he’s going to be after you for a while, right?” [4 of 5]
Wash shrugged as the other man dashed out of the cafeteria, “That’s true, but I’ll stick around Maine for the next few days; York wouldn’t prank me if he’s around since there’s a risk of York pranking Maine on accident.” “Gonna use him as your human shield?” “No, as my huMAINE shield.” “…” “Come on, admit that was a good one!” “… Wash, I’ve never wanted to punch you more than I do right now…” “Okay okay, no more PUNNY stuff-OW! Don’t hit me-CAROLINAH!” [5 of 5](Hoped you liked this one XD)
I LOVE IT!!! Pranky Wash and Carolina tag team is great!!! so cuuuuuuute~

Epsilon gets quiet sometimes.
It’s always noticeable, because he’s usually so fond of his own voice. But, sometimes even in the middle of sentences, he’ll trail off into slow words, then silence.
Carolina can sense when the quiet is coming, mostly, but her neural connection to him doesn’t tell her why it happens. After a few weeks of it, though, she’s learned from observation what triggers it.
Talking about the sim troopers usually does it.
Or traveling through deserts, or canyons.
Once she wakes up in her makeshift encampment sweating, the sleeping bag half-unzipped and thrown off in the night, yet she still has a niggling sense that she is far colder than she should be. She tastes sand. She knows the memory isn’t hers. When she crawls out of the tent into the forest, the smell of pine is suffocating. She’d always liked that smell. Epsilon doesn’t.
She never calls him Church because it makes him so conflicted. The discontentment weighs heavy in her own chest.
He is happy to be with her, she can tell even if he’d die before saying it himself. She is kin in so many ways, ways they don’t think any other person would understand, that they both know they cannot express. So they show it in small ways. She likes that he calls her Sister. He doesn’t know she hears it, but the name and the feeling suffuses all his thoughts about her. She never had a sibling and it is the closest thing to real family either of them has had. He is old and a little degraded, and she is tired and guilty, but they complete each other.
But there are so many parts of him, more than she can keep track of, more than he can keep under control. And some of those parts remember different pasts. A lost wife. Psychological torment. And, in stark contrast, a long time full of nothing but arguments and staring aimlessly through a rifle scope, bleary and slow but content. He has coped with the grief of the first and the trauma of the second. The third he cannot yet move past. It is easier in some ways to heal from hurt than it is to forget joy.
She wakes some mornings with words stuck in her mouth. Every time she forgets them like a dream, but is left with their taste, yearning and bleak on her tongue. He never says them himself. It hurts him less, she thinks, to speak his sadness through different lips. She doesn’t mind, really, that he uses her mind to process his own emotions. She can’t bring herself to confront him.
Instead, when he falls into silence, she learns to get to a place where she can see the sky, lay down, gaze toward the blazing sun, and remember for him the hottest, driest, most miserable rock pit she has never seen.
He still won’t talk for a while, but in the cool shadows of her mind she can feel him smile.

When York loses his depth perception, his whole world changes. Sure, he tries to play it off like it’s no big deal, but his accuracy drops, making it harder for him to stay up on the leader board, next to Carolina. He’d never admit it, even to himself, but he feels like the more obsessed she gets with her own placement, the more time they spend together. Yes, it’s mostly training since she sees him as the most worthy opponent, or him dragging her to bed when she exhausts herself, but he can’t shake the feeling that if he drops in ranks, when he drops in the ranks, she’ll forget about him.
