Zaine smirks some at her nervousness. It was adorable, for her to be this nervous. He supposed the party scene could be nerve wracking. It was his normal though. Maybe it was nerve wracking for her like tests were for him. Even the idea of the teaching calling on him to know some sort of answers.
He glances in her cup to see if it really was soda. Interesting. Now how to not get her to drink this thing.
“Yeah, bein’ nervous can suck that way,” he says with a slight smile. “This is my drink now. I’m confiscating it. Sorry, chica.”
Oh if only Zaine knew what the cause of her nerves actually were. School girl crushes were always such a bad thing for Payten and she’s had a few since she discovered what those actually were, though it was still confusing to her.
At the mention of her drink she turned her attention toward him, her brow furrowing a bit what? Why would he just randomly take her drink. What was going on... she blinked and than just decided to let it be. “Okay... well if that’s yours I at least should get another one right?” She said looking at him.

zaine cameron¡
Zaine smile may have even widened some and he gives a small laugh at the fact she got so shy. Maybe he was even a bit surprised he knew her name.
“Yeah. I don’t see you at stuff like this often. I didn’t think you were into, you know, stuff like this,” he says as he picks up her cup with her drink. “Is Payten Mikalchuk actually drinking alcohol?”  He keeps her drink in his hand. Good, he had control of it. The glares from the boys watching also told him that maybe he was changing up their plans too. Good. The bastards.
“What’s caused all this bravery, huh?”
It was easy for Payten to be shy. This whole ordeal was uncomfortable to her, the only reason she hadn’t run away yet was because of her friends. Though the moment Zaine had shown up they pretty much bailed. I guess they figured she could handle herself, or maybe they thought that she needed to be alone with him; after all she had mentioned once that she found out him to be what was the word... cute? Not that she would tell him to his face, but here he was.
She looked toward him as he took her drink from her. She shook her head “no... it was just soda.” She said as she smiled lightly tugging a strand of her hair behind her ear. At his next words she raised a brow and shrugged “I wouldn’t really call it bravery” she said as she moved a bit “just...” she let out a heavy sigh “my friends dragged me along, and  I couldn’t say no because I just don’t know how to and...” she stopped “sorry I tend to talk a lot, when I’m... nervous” she said with a weak laugh.

Zaine had gotten used to the party scene over his years. Tracker didn’t always pay the best attention, and even if he did it wasn’t as if he could necessarily stop Zaine. He did what he wanted, end of story.
Tonight was kind of dull. He was sitting on a sofa a little ways away, his hair hidden beneath a beanie and only a few of his curls peaking out from underneath. He was spacing out listening to his buddy. His eyes were wondering over most of the party, when they fall on a particular young blonde.
Payten Michalchuk. A quiet thing, Zaine had noticed. She didn’t have much to say and was often in the background. So why she would be at a place like this, he didn’t know for sure. He did see however, a guy bump into her, catching her attention as another slipped something into her drink.
“I’ll be back. Bathroom break,” Zaine mentions as he gets up. He slips past, sliding in front of Payten with a smile.
“Hey! What’s up? Payten right?” he says, trying to deter her from taking the drink.
Payten had always tried to be good. She was far from what her mother was in high school and honestly Payten didn’t have any issue with her position as the goodie two shoe, people left her alone she liked it that way.
Payten was kid of thrown back when she saw Zaine slip his way in front of her. Payten had always had a small thing for Zaine, ever since he came to Degrassi. I mean he was handsome and the fact he was talking to her was honestly making her very... confused.
“Y... yeah” she said lightly as she looked at him. “Zaine... yeah?” she said as she fidgeted where she stood, her nerves of course getting the better of her. She moved placing her hands down at her side, her fingers slowly scratching at the material of her skirt.

first time for everything
Payten was not one for parties, in fact she had only ever been invited to a party once in her teen years and that was to her friends 12th birthday and you know there was even a clown there but anyway that was an entirely different time in her life and now here she was 16 and had been invited to one of the “popular” parties and she felt really out of place.
She stood near the wall talking with some friends, her laughs soft giggles nothing too over the top. She placed her drink down onto the counter just next to her and went to look through her purse to find her chapstick; when she found it she put it on and moved and stepped back her shoulder hitting someone “oh sorry” she said with a soft smile before looking back to her friends still forgetting about her drink once more.
