This photo lives in my head rent-free.
Remember when Kristen Stewart was on the Cannes judging panel with Cate Blanchett and she just kept rapturously staring at her like this?

I think about that at least twice a week.

This scene is one of the most iconic scenes in this movie. It depicts the sorrow and joy of love at the same time (depending on how you interpret it).
Joy- When Mary says "last year this time we had snow. Now it's nice" she means that Charlotte has warmed her heart which was once cold. She has brought with herself this warmth and coziness which Mary was yearning for.
Sorrow- They both are standing near the carriage preparing for Charlotte to leave Mary. Standing a feet apart, not able to touch each other because they know they might not be able to part if they did.
Mary looks at her, praying to the Gods to do something that will make her stay. Last year it snowed, blocking the roads. She does not want it to be sunny anymore, she does not want it to be the perfect day for traveling.
But she knows there's nothing she can do. So, she just states the cruel fact that it isn't snowing anymore, making the day perfect for the travel. Charlotte understands. Her face told Mary that she did. Her eyes mirror the same desire. The same prayer. Her eyes moisten as she sits in the carriage, leaving her whole heart behind. Making love the art of "letting go".

That beautiful moment when you realise you've fallen so hard in love that no matter how hard you try, your heart can never be your own again. It's theirs now. It's the purest form of feeling. Love.
