How to Upscale Pictures

A/ Make an account on AI Image Enlarger (https://imglarger.com/) website using an email address.

Visit https://imglarger.com/Pricing, choose Free, fill email address and password and click Get Started.

They will send an email with link to verify the account on your email address and after you click it, you will be able to login. (That email sometimes takes some time to arrive, so be patient.)

With free account you can upscale 19 pictures. Picture for upscaling can be max 1200x1200px and max 5MB.

Once you run out of free pictures and want to upscale more, you can either upgrade your account by buying another plan...or you can create new free account using another email address.

When you run out of emails, you can always create some more, I tried https://protonmail.com/ and it looks like it works well, I created more than one without issues and you don’t need phone number for creating email accounts. To create account visit https://protonmail.com/signup and pick FREE.

B/ Pick the right photo

I included examples of several original and upscaled photos (you can find many more in the Upscaled folder. The result is very much depended on the original picture. Quality, resolution and amount of details play part. First one is really pretty sunset photo and the upscaled one looks ok, but the people in the picture are blurred, because they were small and therefore not many details can be found. AI Image Enlarger doesn’t come up with details that are not in the original like some other services.

Second photo gets better result, but the face is still quite blurred, because is small. Third photo is actually screenshot from video, therefore the quality isn’t the best. it’s ok in original size, but result shows those imperfections.

Fourth photo compared to the size of picture the face is rather small, but since the photo has higher resolution, the actual size and amount of details is big enough to give relatively good result. Fifth photo is perfect for upscaling, you have good quality close up with many details and upscaled picture is really nice. Though when you look really close, some details still are not perfect, like lips bleeding color on teeth. But frankly you will have some imperfections pretty much every time.

C/ Upload picture, choose whether you want 2x or 4x upscale and click Start. Then you just have to wait until Download button appears.

My go to site for covers. Has small gallery on artist page, just click on thumbnail to open gallery, in gallery click on photo and it will open in full size on new tab. Soribada

On album page you can open album cover, click on magnifying glass icon on the thumbnail. It will open in full size on new tab. (http://www.soribada.com/music/artist/AK002080/albums)

Melon

Melon makes it a bit more complicated. You can download album covers, but their max size is 2000, so if that cover is on Bugs, don't bother with Melon. If you click on thumbnail, then on the picture in popup window and you will get picture in another popup window. That will be only 1000x1000px. If you want max size then you will have to use Webdeveloper tools (How To) to get to the url of the picture in any step and delete everything after ".jpg" and change the end of file name to "_org" Melon has small gallery of the artist too. You can click on thumbnail, then you get full size but in small window, if you click on it, you will get same picture in big popup window. You can save it with CTRL+S, but it will be version with only 80% quality. If you want original, you will have to use Webdeveloper tools (How To) to find and change url - delete everything after ".jpg"

How to Get HD Pics from SNS and Other Services

Rant Warning: Hands down the worst place for pictures. Unfortunately used increasingly as main channel and ruins chance for good pictures even for other platforms. Companies often make the picture to post 1080x1080 size and upload it everywhere. It was bad to begin with, but Facebook totally ruined it. They've applied their horrible compression and style of urls. End of rant.

How to:

Save profile picture in best quality only with online service, at the moment works for example https://www.instafollowers.co/

Save photos: I use Save page as and then look for the photo in the folder. Don't save different posts into one folder, the big one will be likely ovewritten by it's preview (possibly not in chrome, they will create new version). Max size you will get is width 1080px, height can go up to 1350px.

Facebook

How to save photos: No special way, just click on it and then click on the arrows in the right top corner to be sure it's the biggest size there is, then Save picture as. I think bigest size is around 2000px, quality reduced by excessive compression.

Twitter

How to save photos: To be sure you have biggest size, open picture in another tab or window and check last parameter "name" if it's 4096x4096, you have it, otherwise change it to 4096x4096 or orig.

How to save photos: The easiest way is in mobile version, where you get "large" just by clicking on photo and that you just save with right click, if you don't have mobile version link, use Web Developer Tools (Basics How to Handle Pictures). Mobile version also has unlimited scrolling, so you are not limited in case you don't have weibo account. If you have desktop version, open picture in new window and change mw960 to original or large, I think large and original now give same size. Not sure about max size, but definitely beter quality of pictures than previous platforms.

How to save photos: You have two options, (1) open in new tab change "postfiles" to "blogfiles" and delete parametr "type" or (2) click the picture, it will open new window and if there is bigger version in top left corner there will be icon to open that bigger window with it. Basics How to Handle Pictures

General note: I talk about desktop, that is my natural habitat. Browsers differ, but the functionality is usually at least similar.

Usual way to save picture in browsers is right mouse click and pick "Save picture as" or some variant of it.

For URL change you will have to click "Open picture in new tab" or some variant of it.

Some websites don't allow right click, then you are left with four options:

There are browser add-ons for saving pictures from websites. I don't have any experience with those, but I know some people use those. Search "add-ons for saving pictures" with name of the browser you use and you will get some.

For some SNS there are online services for saving pictures and videos. It can be the only option sometimes (for example some Instagram content).

Save the whole webpage and find pictures in the folder. CTRL+S usually works, if not, then right mouse click and find the option there or you can find it in menu of the browser.

Use Webdeveloper Tools. CTRL+SHIFT+I will open a window with HTML code where you can find the picture URL and open it in another tab, where you can save it. (see pic)

Click on a link with pressed CTRL to open it in a new tab works generally. Except when the link is actually some javascript function, then it might not work.
