My favorite type of villain is the kind that already has everything they need to be happy and fulfilled and satisfied but they're so fixated on what they believe they deserve that they destroy everything that already brings them joy and sacrifice more and more until they're left with nothing at all.

Love me a villain that makes perfect the enemy of good.

being doomed by the narrative is cool and all but i like when a character is doomed just by being a fucking idiot. sorry that happened to you but it is entirely your own fault and you could have just chosen to not do all that

One of my past sources of daydream fodder was a Sherlock Holmes AU where Holmes and Watson are Mrs. Hudson's cat and dog who go out into the neighborhood solving animal related mysteries and occasionally leading smug police dog Lestrade in the right direction.

One thing that set it apart from similar ideas was that Watson is a Belgian malinois, much to the baffled horror of Mrs. Hudson's friends and neighbors who wonder how the hell she can keep that breed without him destroying her entire house. And the answer is that her cat keeps opening the front door for him and burning off his insane amount of energy running around solving pet crimes.

The irony is that the main reason I stopped watching Hello from the Hallowoods is that Season 2 went in some goddamn harrowing places and I needed a "break", and the joke's on me because now I have almost 3 years of episodes to binge that undoubtedly goes into some way worse, even more harrowing places.

If you want a good object lesson about what we can and can't know about the past, we don't know Ea-Nasir was a dishonest merchant selling shoddy goods.

What we know is we have found a cache of complaint tablets about him selling low quality copper as high quality, in a site that was probably his own residence. We know multiple people complained he was a cheat. It's entirely possible they were right. It's also entirely possible that he kept these complaint letters as records of people he would no longer do business with, because they had made accusations and threats in order to bully him into giving them free copper. That is an equally valid interpretation of the evidence.

My point is not that we have maligned Ea-Nasir, my point is that thousands of years later, we do not and cannot know.

I didn't really like how I sounded when cheering because my voice felt weak and aimless to my own ears, so now when I'm in a crowd setting and the time comes to cheer I instead howl like a wolf or perhaps a coyote.

dude I was looking at the YUTS tags again because I’ve been finishing the last few chapters of GeminiWishes’ podfic (and listening to that has been like reading the story for the first time again, holy actual frick they are REALLY REALLY good at voice acting and if I ever get around to actually making an animatic some day, I’m gonna do it from her readthrough) and wanted to trapeze through the arts n posts of the people still left, and seeing THAT THERE’S A SEQUEL IN THR WORKS???? I AM LEGITIMATELY SO EXCITED YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA OH MY GODS. YUTS is legitimately the best fic I’ve ever read on a technical writing level (a lot of your work is, to be honest!), and the story means so much to me, especially as an ace peep. Even if you don’t end up wanting to continue after awhile, getting to return to this little universe you’ve created even just for a few chapters is gonna be so much fun, and I’m super happy about it!! Good luck with the writins my peep!!

I think what I love most about mythology is that the “Trickster God/Spirit” is an archetypical character found in almost every body of folklore. It’s like “Oh, here’s our God of the Sun, our God of the Sea, our God of Fertility, and our God of Being A Wretched Little Gremlin Who Causes Problems On Purpose”
