I’ve stood by idly since i saw this post, but i really need to argue with this idea
Starting off, FAKE TYPE isn’t the indie band they used to be, they’re nowhere near as big as someone like Ado, but they’re on a professional, very large record label right now. I’m not saying the label is FORCING them to stick to electro-swing, though.
FAKE TYPE is an electro swing band, it’s their main and primary focus for their works. Electro swing is a genre of music not commonly touched upon, it’s nice they’re sticking to the basics to bring more attention to it. FAKE SWING 2 shows the advancement in the materials they have now too, gaining instrumental players for various instruments such as clarinet, piano, violin, and even the fiddle.
In their collaboration works too, they focus more on electro swing, it’s what they do, that’s FAKE TYPE, that’s the whole meaning of the line “this is Japanese Electro Swing” that is what FAKE TYPE is.
While I can’t speak on Dyes Iwasaki too much, as he is primarily an Electro Swing producer, TOPHAMHAT-KYO very occasionally goes out of the electro swing genre on his own solo works, and sways more towards hip-hop and rap, though there’s obvious exceptions to this. His work with Rainybluebell, Tiny Planets, Tamaonsen, etc. also support this claim. He is not just an electro swing artist, it is one of his primary styles, but it is not his only field.
As for “Demondice actually destroyed the first song” take it from me, i’m not a fan of her/calliope at all. She’s Texan, I’m from Philly, the rivalry is there. I criticize her a LOT. Her collaboration on a FAKE TYPE song was inevitable, it was always going to happen at some point. And honestly, compared to 95% of her works, she actually sounded pretty good. Remember, it always could have been Mori Calliope, and she would have to use her fucking Calliope pitch. I never listened to Nezumi Scheme for that reason god bless.
The rest of the songs are fucking GREAT though, and even if they are the basic electro-swing that FAKE TYPE is known for, it’s their twist on the genre that makes it worth listening to over and over. Fake Soul has amazing scat lines, Barber Shop has a crazy ass soundtrack, dont get me STARTED on Dryad johngarabushi popped OFF 🫡
The moral of this post is yeah, it’s the same as what they were doing, but that’s exactly the point. When people ask what genre they are, you’re supposed to shrug it off, because nobody really KNOWS, yes its japanese hip-hop/rap with electro swing but its easier to say it’s FAKE TYPE’s genre, it’s what they’re known for and loved for.
Repetition won’t hurt them, especially when someone like AO branches out in his own career. FAKE TYPE is focusing on a path that not many people take, and even if that causes a lot of similar music, it’s worth taking a deeper dive into their music to find what makes each song unique.
newest fake type album was awful, it's almost a copy-paste of their last 3 years back in the industry and they have nothing to show for it in regards to progressing their music, Demondice's feature actually destroyed the first song, though there was possibly one good song the rest felt like the same songs they've garnered success with??? im so mad that the band that got me into the japanese indie scene is slowly crumbling before me

Prisma’s older sisters! Prisma is the youngest Triplet
Copi is more based off my splatoon playing personality, she’s very hype and determined and loves squid partying. She’s a reliable teammate overall
“Pilot” is a codename, apparently the full codename being “Pilot: G2-07” nobody knows their real name, and even her sisters refer to her as Pilot. She’s based off my biggest splatoon fear- E-liter mains.
