It was like 8 years ago when I was wondering how hot Japan is in June and now I can say. Fucking hot. But not as bad as July or August

if ads for executive personal assistants were written the same way as ads for home aides for disabled people:
"Looking for a compassionate person to help take care of our sweet 54 year old boss. He is a fiercely independent person who nevertheless needs help with certain tasks, such as admin and errands. He likes craft beers, iced coffee, and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He would love a reliable, caring companion to help him get through the day with more ease and retain independence."
my point here is that it was never 'needing assistance' that was stigmatized. it's being disabled.
you're allowed to need assistance for other reasons, even the exact same tasks. a rich person hires someone to clean their home and that actually boosts their social status. a disabled person needs the exact same service and it's a source of great shame. what's the difference?
this even applies to personal care! people go to salons to have their hair washed and their nails tended to. but somehow it's humiliating if you need that because of disability. it's bullshit.
