Good News for the New Year
want to hear some good news for 2022? ready?
on January 1st 2022, you, yes you, will own Winnie-the-Pooh.
Okay so technically everyone will own Pooh Bear because he will enter public domain. But hey! in.. 2 weeks? Winnie-the-Pooh, Christopher Robin, Piglet, Eeyore, Owl, Rabbit, Kanga, and Roo along with the Hundred Acre Wood will all be public domain
so whats free and clear? well not Tigger sorry. Everything that appears in Winnie-the-Pooh the 1926 book will be public domain, Tigger first appeared in The House at Pooh Corner in 1928 so we have to wait till 2024 for him to be free and clear. However! if you want to screen print a t-shirt with one of E. H. Shepard's illustrations from the book and sell it you totally totally can and no one can stop you.
Likewise you can put Pooh or Eeyore into a book you're writing and sell it and no one can stop you not even mean old Mr. Disney. Now you'll have to be careful and only use story points from the original book and not a later book or worse one of the Disney films but anything from the first book is fair game fuck you House of Mouse.
