i don't have any current plans to continue the story but you, among others (and including my wife) are pretty insistent that i do continue it. thing is, if i do continue it, i'll probably rewrite some of it––and i'll probably write it as an original work.

No, i haven’t seen it and don’t plan to… not a super appealing storyline to me. Jackie Chan did basically the same movie a few years ago. I definitely won’t be writing fics about Charlie though haha, I barely write about Ahkmenrah and he’s by far my favourite character. Thank you for your kind words though!
