Happy Zutara Week 2023, Everyone!!

(I'm still in the midst of a stubborn art block, but I didn't want to let that stop me from participating in the most beloved of fan weeks. I fought myself a lot in making this comic and I'm not sure I won, (I swear it was cooler in my head) but I'm tired of staring at it and at this point, I'd rather have it done than perfect. (making it perfect would involve starting over, so.))

~Festive Noodle!~ (Fire Noodle #13, Zutara)

The idea of Druk knocking over a Christmas Tree was actually the very first idea I ever had for a Druk comic. But I thought of it in January, so I had to wait almost a full year before it would make sense to make it as a comic. But the holiday season is finally back! 

I thought about trying to turn the tree into some sort of Solstice Tree so it could fit in actual AtLA world but it felt forced, so instead here’s a modern AU of Fire Noodle.

Zuko and Katara in the hours, if not days, after defeating Azula being completely alone and in the dark about the outcome of the war.

Zuko and Katara hunkering down at the palace because Zuko can’t travel in his condition.

Zuko and Katara agreeing that they’ll stay with each other no matter what it takes, because right now they only have each other.

Zuko and Katara locking themselves in a room together because they don’t trust the sages or servants in the palace while Zuko is still healing.

Zuko and Katara sharing a bed because she refuses to leave his side until he’s well, and falls asleep healing him.

Zuko and Katara exchanging forehead kisses, not for romance’s sake, but because they want to show the other that there’s still kindness and gentleness in the world.

Zuko and Katara coming to terms with the fact that they created a whole separate reality in the time they spent together immediately following the Agni Kai.

Zuko and Katara being forced to pretend it didn’t happen when Aang finally makes it to the palace and finds them.

Zuko and Katara drifting apart because they know the life they imagined with one another was a fantasy at best.

Zuko and Katara still loving each other after all these years because how could they not?

Druk worried about Kya. After all, he could breathe fire just a couple weeks after he was born. Kya was 7 months old and still hadn’t breathed fire even once! Druk knew it was his responsibility to teach her.
