guys i fear this show was made for me specifically

who read the first two books a decade ago, who never got around to the third, who fucking LIVED for the ghibli-zation vibes

(tho i do recognize that it rather biases one against the clankers by making the beasties not nearly as unsettling)

like sure an adaptation with a different tone and time to give to the story and such would be groovy but the fact that of all things it got an anime?! by studio orange?! WITH joe hisaishi!!!!!!!!!

I know many people have mixed feelings, or even outright dislike, the anime adaptation. It can be hard to accept a version of a story when your love for the books runs so deep. Personally, I would have loved to see three full seasons, or at least 24 episodes, to fully capture the creativity of this world, its unique technology, and the importance of Alek and Deryn’s relationship, built on loyalty and trust, as a powerful symbol of two opposing forces working together.

That said, I appreciate what the production team managed to do with just 12 episodes. It couldn’t have been easy. Sure, I wish certain scenes, events, or lines from the books had made it into the show, but I always knew it wouldn’t be a direct copy-and-paste. For what it is, I think they did a pretty solid job. You kind of have to approach the Leviathan anime like you're watching a long movie.

What I’m really trying to say is: despite its flaws, I truly enjoyed it. Seeing this incredible trilogy finally get an adaptation was a dream come true. It’s been overlooked for so long, and I’m thrilled to see it finally getting recognition and positive attention. I hope it inspires more people to pick up the books and experience the full magic of the story.

To add on: I don't exactly agree with the whole "Ghibli" inspired part, as I kind of pictured Leviathan to have a lot more grungy grit to it like how Keith's art portrays it, but as I know I've said in the past, Leviathan does have a lot of Ghibli elements to it. War, aviation, machines, creatures, and a strong female and male lead characters.

Filled with rage, they went forth to subjugate Arceus, then proceeded to destroy the world. Before they were able to create a new one, Arceus finally revealed they had never been in control

They were left behind in their destroyed world as Arceus created a new one, and Volo was trapped with their fury in what we now know as Distortion World

Now he tries to get his revenge through the man who took his place in this new world
