Up To You
Entitlement is refusing to accept responsibility.
Entitlement is thinking I am above the rules.
Entitlement is thinking I am the victim.
Entitlement is thinking it’s not my problem.
Entitlement is thinking it’s not my fault.
Entitlement is thinking I should be appreciated just for showing up.
Entitlement is believing I deserve.
"Whatever the cause of the sense of entitlement, the end result is that the person believes that he or she doesn’t have to play by the rules of responsibility, ownership, and commitment.” (Dr. Townsend)
The Choice
Entitlement is an attitude, which means it’s a habit of thought, and you choose your thoughts. Although entitlement has been around forever, this might be the most entitled generation yet. Many believe they deserve a trophy, deserve more playing time, deserve a scholarship, and deserve to take more shots in a game -- all without having to do the hard work to earn them. Parents, culture, and experiences may influence someone towards entitlement, but they don’t create it.
Entitlement is a choice.
Instead, adopt the attitude that we are responsible for our own lives, and no one owes us anything. The solution to entitlement is doing life the hard way. Dr. Townsend defines the hard way as the habit of doing what is best, rather than what is comfortable to achieve a worthwhile outcome. Dr. Townsend offers 4 solutions that all focus on doing hard things the right way to achieve a worthwhile result.
Make no mistake, there is no easy way. There is the hard way and there is the harder way. The harder way (entitlement) takes shortcuts that catch up to you in the long run.
The Entitlement Cure:
1. Understand the Power of Words
Words matter. Words reveal your thoughts. It is physically impossible to say something you haven't first thought about. Words affect our feelings, behavior, relationships, and emotions.
The first step to curing entitlement is to remove the phrase “I deserve” from your vocabulary, and replace it with “I am responsible”.
I deserve is a dangerous phrase.
“I deserve more playing time”
“I deserve to be the mvp”
“I deserve to take a day off”
“I deserve to start”
“I deserve to be more appreciated”
What did you do to deserve this? “I don't know, I just deserve it”
You have lots of needs, but you don't deserve anything in the football world.
The phrase “I deserve” is DISEMPOWERING.
The phrase “I am responsible” is EMPOWERING.
It places the ball in your field. Responsibility puts you in charge and gives you the choice to take action.
2. Do The Hard Things First
Successful people have tough mornings and easier evenings. They do the hard assignments, then the easy ones. Positive reinforcements motivate us. You eat your dinner then get to eat dessert. This eliminates the temptations of procrastinating and taking shortcuts. Make your #1 priority doing the next hard thing. Even if it's painful and boring, requires more energy, takes more time, and feels uncomfortable, success is on the other side of that. Choose discipline.
Members of this up and coming generation are the product of over-parenting. From the time they are born, their parents have been telling them how special they are. While I am a firm believer that each individual is unique and has special gifts, that is not an excuse to expect everything to be handed to you.
It’s hard to coach an entitled person. It's hard to teach them the beautiful game when you don't know if they'll trust the process.
Kids won't grind. Reality: they won't grind if no one is watching. They are perfectly capable of working hard. They just don't want their hard work to go unnoticed.
Players should not get a trophy for showing up and doing your job. If they want more, do more. You’re not entitled to anything. You don't deserve anything, but if you put in the hard work, you can earn anything you want!

El Loco
Profe Marcelo Bielsa
youtube
On arriving at Leeds railway station in the 1970s, commuters were greeted by a simple sign: ‘Promised Land — Delivered.’If Marcelo Bielsa continues his marvelous start to life at Elland Road, there may be cause for the slogan to be restored. Since relegation from the in 2004, those loyal supporters have longed for a messiah to restore former glories. The stories of relegations, administrations and boardroom chaos are well told but, under their Argentinian manager, Leeds are emerging from the wilderness, and at long last dreaming of top-flight football. Leeds sit top of the Championship, a point clear of Norwich, but, more importantly, six clear of the playoffs. Should Leeds equal Norwich’s result this weekend against Aston Villa, the club will be top of the Championship at Christmas for the first time in their 14 years since relegation. Under Bielsa, the highest-paid manager in Leeds’ history, belief is growing they can do anything.
youtube
Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa has offered up a rare behind the scenes insight into his team's planning for every game. Bielsa called a unique and lengthy media briefing in response to the 'spy-gate' storm with Derby County. A member of Bielsa's staff was caught 'spying' on a Derby training session prior to United's recent game with the Rams at Elland Road. The Argentine's ethics have been called into question even if no laws have been broken. Bielsa is vowing to co-operate fully with an EFL investigation by disclosing all of their data they have compiled on EVERY opponent this season. El Loco.

3four3 Podcast Episode 145: Setting Goals Is Normal, but Normal Is Boring. Stand out by Defining Your “Why.” Lessons From West Ham United’s Brianna Visalli.
Brianna Visalli knows a thing or two about what it takes to achieve a goal. Literally. And also what it takes to overcome adversity.
As a young player growing up in Northern California’s Bay Area, she was never the biggest or strongest player. In fact, at just over five feet tall, she still isn’t the biggest or strongest. But from a young age, she knew if she wanted to stand out, she had to be different and better the rest. And she knew that required extra work.
Outside of team training sessions, Bri would spend her time juggling the ball around her block, working on turns in her garage, and hitting the ball against the curb. She would wake up every morning at 5:30 am and go to the gym with her parents. She was down to put in the work.
As she climbed the ladder in American soccer, through club soccer, then college, all the way up to the national team, and eventually the NWSL – things never, ever got easier. The extra work has never, ever stopped.
This conversation with Bri was recorded shortly after her move to West Ham United, a historic club in England’s Premier League. We actually had to reschedule our call to accommodate her game against Manchester United.
At just 23 years old, Bri is already someone that players, parents, and coaches can learn from. Specifically, her desire to define her “why” instead of just setting goals.

What is Futsal?
youtube
Définition: fut·sal /fo͝otsäl/ noun a modified form of soccer played with five players per side on a smaller, typically indoor, field.
Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlike some other forms of indoor football/soccer, the game is played on a hard court surface delimited by lines; walls or boards are not used. Futsal is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular football due to the surface of the field. The surface, ball, and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity, and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.
Perfect for players off-season to continue development. World class players like Messi, Ronaldo, Zizou, Neymar, Maradona and Pele played futsal when growing up. Press play and enjoy.

The Cognitive Process
Consciously or not, every player that is part of the team, during the game faces many opportunities that demand decisions. The decision that is fast and correct, that brings as much advantage to the team as possible.
“Everything starts from what the player sees. Not from what he looks at.”
If the player is aware, there is no place to fear. They become responsible, creative and confident in the game. The basis of the decision process is information. The time, quality and frequency of gained information is a key in this process.
Constantly moving, players must be aware of which direction and part of the field they should move and why. That is perception, sense of awareness, and our field of sight. However, our field of view is limited, but our awareness can improve by understanding this:

1) Scanning the field
Collecting information by moving head, „checking shoulders”, „taking pictures”. Player gathers information from surroundings.
2) Correcting body position
3) Correcting position on the field
Types of information on the field
Offense
Defense
– Ball
– Where is the space with advantage (free space, numerical balance)
– Where are opponents
– Where are teammates
– Position in the formation
Based on the received information, a player must analyze them in relation to his position, principles and, assessment of the risk and which solution will bring the biggest advantage for the team.
All this information seems to be quite easy to remember and use during the game, however, sometimes the easiest way seems to be the most difficult to use. Cryuff once said,
“Soccer is simple, but it is difficult to play simple.”
How much you know is the one, but how you will use it is the other thing. Cognitive Process is one of the most difficult pieces of skill a player can develop. Done correctly, their speed of play will be unstoppable. But it takes time to develop the brain to think this way because it’s happening individually inside the head of each player. The player must understand it takes time and patience to think this way.
All we can do as coaches is to replicate the situations that are troublesome for the players during the game. Situations where defenders are set in transitional opportunities (ex. defense to offense), where they need to control more than one aspect of the game. Where attackers must decide what to use to control the pass or what type of run to make or dribble. The direction they will choose to create an attack. All these situations are demanding as much awareness about conditions as possible. Those details matters. The biggest difference between the good and the best players is, decision making.

Underrated Training
Why Should Soccer Players Jump Rope?
Besides it being cheap and easy to learn, jumping rope improves balance, coordination, agility, and overall speed. It also improves hand and foot quickness. It increases strength and aerobic conditioning, develops explosiveness, conditions both the upper and lower body at the same time, and encourages efficiency of movement.
The best part is this training can be done almost anywhere, and the only pieces of equipment needed is a good old jump rope.
Basic Guidelines
Do each exercise for 30 seconds to 2 minutes
Rest in-between exercises until re-energized
About 50% of the amount of time you just spent jumping is a good guideline (so if you jump for 30 seconds, rest for about 15)
Beginners should try for about 10 minutes
Remember, you can always go longer as your conditioning improves
