Japanese artist Iori Tomita transforms the scientific technique of preserving and dying organic specimens into an art form with his series "Shinsekai (Toumei Hyouhon)" (New World Transparent Specimens).

He soaks the corpses of animals in chemicals until they are transparent and then dyes the bones and cartilage.

Ladiga Baiba is a Latvian-born fashion designer, stylist and illustrator. She has studied at  Art Academy of Latvia and graduated with a Master in fashion design. She then taught for five years at Raffles Design Institute in Shanghai, China. 

Her collection for AW14-15 is called the House, as Baiba sought inspiration from the house and its interior for her structural designs. 

I adore her headwear and the Mary Katrantzou-esque prints.

Chanel's resort collection for 2015 was presented in Dubai last week, with eastern influence shining through the collection. Trousers worn with dresses is a trend I love, especially the light, sheer leggings shown here in geometric texture. Tunics and kaftans were seen, along with the traditional Chanel tweed being used in innovative designs. Everything is shiny and sparkling, a golden reminiscence of the sands in the east. 

My favourite accessories are the pearl bag and the clear plastic cross-body shaped like an oil canister.

Milleneufcentquatrevingtquatre or MNCQVQ is a french brand of printed silk squares, drawn, painted and finalised by Amélie Charroin and Marie Colin-Madan. The brand has specialised in printed scarves, with inspiration sought from various sources: Matisse, hawaiian landscape viewed through Google Earth, french film-maker Eric Rhomer to name a few.

These images are from the collaboration of MNCQVQ with Reality Studio and is the brand's first foray into garments.

The Parisian knitwear label Sonia Rykiel has announced that it has hired Julie de Libran as artistic director, effectively immediately.

De Libran was formerly studio director of women’s ready-to-wear at Louis Vuitton, where she also oversaw the brand’s cruise and pre-fall collections. 

Her first runway collection for Sonia Rykiel will debut in September at Paris Fashion Week. She will also manage the brand’s second line, Sonia by Sonia Rykiel, accessories, children’s apparel and home goods.

Les Deux Garçons is the project of two Dutch artist, Michel Vanderbeijden van Tinteren and Roel Moonen, who both studied autonomous art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastrict.

Their artwork is created with flea market findings, antiques, taxidermy and has a focus on the twilight between good and evil. 

Their work on taxidermy is very fascinating, a juxtaposition of innocence, cuteness and death, with the animals appearing grotesque to many.

The Swedish brand Minimarket has been a favourite of mine for the past years. The brand's aesthetic is a clean silhouette with textures added for detail, along with unique and feminine prints. 

The SS14 collection is called Meanwhile at Mardi Gras and presents the Minimarket school of Scandinavian cool.

There have been times when I have looked back at an occasion when reason kept me from credit card splurges and regretted the missed opportunity of impulsive shopping. These moments usually happen when I am in-store, having a fierce debate with said voice of reason. Or when asked to purchase a membership card at a store I am a first time customer, where I usually submit as I want to feel like I regularly shop there.

Seems like this behaviour is not unique to myself but a common phenomenon amongst fashion conscious shoppers. Shoppers browsing at luxury stores are more inclined to purchase if treated indifferently by the staff, as the need for better appearances seems to be ever prevalent. A little fuel for the voice of reason, the customers tended to regret their purchase and have more negative feeling toward the brand afterwards. A deterrent for when faced with that gorgeous Celiné bag next time.

23 brands still remain on the official Chambre Syndicate de la Haute Couture, including Christian Dior and Chanel, Elie Saab and Rad Hourani. Dolce&Gabbana and Gucci have unveiled haute couture collections, though they are not members of the Chambre Syndicate.

This video shows the creation of a Christian Dior Haute couture gown. The journey is entirely jaw-dropping.
