it's crucial that you untie "special interest" from "expertise". "it's true just trust me bro" doesn't have any extra weight when you add "I know because it's my special interest". you are not immune from falling for misinformation, and you are not immune from sharing misinformation. not to mention the fact that "amount of knowledge" isn't even a requirement for something being classified as a special interest lol!

I guess in general something I've been practicing doing is leaving behind the "do I fit [psychiatric diagnostic category] in a proper/normal way enough?" and moving towards the "if I use [diagnostic category] as a lens for my behaviour, what would it teach me?" which is not to say that it's some free-for-all where I try on all labels under the sun. it's just to say that these categories are constructed categories, and they're only useful if they help to make sense of lived experiences. if it helps me to approach my lived experiences through a new angle, why not give it a try and see? it doesn't have to be a permanent feature of my identity to be useful in a given moment. much to consider

Every time I go to draw people it takes ages and makes a sound like a fork in the garbage disposal and I’m like someday this will get easier!

And then I spend half an hour doodling animals and they’re effortlessly charming and lovely and I’m like. Goddamn it. This is what I was made for.
