you can be masculine and feminine at the same time. being masculine doesn't make you any less feminine. being feminine doesn't make you any less masculine. there is no inherent morality to any masculinity or femininity you express. you create the meaning behind it by expressing yourself - your joy, your queerness, your health. you are not a reflection of other people's harmful ideas about gender. that's their burden to carry, not yours.
If you send me an ask containing links to Good Omens fan fiction you think I should read, I'll delete it. Do it again and I'll (regretfully) block you. This is a general blanket sort of thing -- I don't want to read it, legally I can't read it, no I won't make it into the next series, and, no matter how pure your motives, it's crossing a line.
so ive been writing out a more indepth analysis of TB!Hal for an ask and its,,, long, but i wanna share this one tidbit about the mage class ive got cooked up on its own:
I’ve got an ask once where someone concluded that Mages are the pathfinders of Homestuck classes, and I really like the implication of it. In the same ask, they summarized that Seers, as the passive counterpart, understand their aspect and steer others with that understanding, while more active Mages experience their aspect and steer others with that experience. (Slight tangent but fr if you’re the person who send this ask (sadly it was from anon) i want you to know that it’s been such a based take i think about it daily, and also i’m kissing you on the lips rn.)
When i was doing research about the classpects, people often concluded that Mages must suffer from their aspect and gain knowledge through that suffering. While both Mages we were introduced to in the original comic, ie. Sollux and Meulin, could steer people into believing that to be the case, i want to propose a different explanation: Mages job is to experience their aspect, and through experiencing it they gain a vast understanding of it. A big part of learning about a new subject is the act of failing at it.
Let’s make an example: if you pick up a pencil and decide to learn how to draw, you won’t produce the next Michelangelo masterpiece on your first try. Or your ten, or one hundredth. But, if you fail and identify why you failed – your proportions were wrong, your shading didn’t match the lighting scenario – and start to consciously avoid making those mistakes again, you’ll start to see the improvement. But the process is slow, and the results often don’t meet our expectations, which is what makes people give up and decide that drawing is just not their thing. Or sometimes people get stuck, frustrated with the lack of improvement, because they haven’t identified what mistakes they’re making and simply keep on making them again and again, instead of steering away from them, which also drives them into quitting.
The art of learning about any subject is a steady stream of constant failures, identifying what went wrong, remembering to avoid it, and at last realizing that you’ve improved and succeeded, and this is what the Mage experience is about. We keep on seeing miserable Mages because they either get overwhelmed and give up on learning about their aspect, instead avoiding experiencing it at all costs, or they gain the knowledge of why they failed and try to guide others with it, but they themselves are unable to apply that same knowledge to their own life, instead falling into the same fucking potholes again and again.
Another AO3 thing I’m curious about, how do yall decide if something is good enough to read? Usually I follow a rule of 1 kudos for every 10 hits. One because it’s easy math and two it’s yet to fail me. Thoughts? Do you just go for it and pray it’s good?
my hot take about homestuck is that describing the plot is incredibly easy (several others have done this, so i won’t on this post), it’s the STRUCTURE of homestuck that’s impossible to explain simply
and THATS why homestuck references are the most batshit confusing things ever. because they aren’t about the fairly simple plot, theyre about the weird amalgamation of computer coding, chess, billards, zodiacs, fucking LUCKY CHARMS, etc that make up the building blocks of the background elements that barely have anything to do with the core plot
it’s one thing to say homestuck is about 4 friends that play a game at the end of the world to try and design a new world, it’s another to explain why betty crocker is a pisces alien fish dictator that takes the place of the black queen in the third intergalactic chess game of the series
calling june a "headcanon" does a disservice to the idea. june is a fully coherent read of the character gained from the text and was heavily appreciated by the author of the story and planned to be put in the work itself. that's not a headcanon anymore, that's just literally being correct. it makes me so mad when people dismiss june as "a headcanon", or go with the "june was only real because of the toblerone wish", because june was planned for months before the toblerone even happened! also, the toblerone wish wasn't a thing until after june was confirmed. the initially "toblerone wish" was 2 friends jokingly calling themselves the new author of homestuck, declaring june real, and then andrew hussie showed up and was like "you're correct".
the confirmation of june being canon was actually just a spoiler (or as much as a characters identity could be a spoiler), and the fact that she hasn't appeared in hs2 yet is just because the moment isn't right for it yet, narratively.
but also june is a trans woman in all timelines regardless of what you think.
socket the GIRL ORB in your SELF-CONCEPT MATRIX to activate the socket's PSYCHE NODE. activated nodes give skill check bonuses and can be upgraded with experience points to add THAUMATURGICAL SIGILS to your DWEOMER INCUNABULUM. build circuits out of upgraded nodes to unlock NEW TYPES OF GIRL that you can slot into to your GENDER ARRAY. (remember, you can bind a type of girl to a hotkey for quick use!)
my apologies if this has already been posted here but im sharing this. here is what someone said on twitter along w this image:
the central image text reads: “@everyone I HAVE BEEN RELIABLY INFORMED GUARDIAN JOURNALISTS ARE SNOOPING AROUND ASKING FOR TRANS PEOPLE TO TALK TO THEM ABOUT DIY HRT. THEY ARE PARTICULARLY LOOKING FOR UNDER-18S DOING DIY. SHOULDN'T NEED TO BE SAID, BUT DO. NOT. ENGAGE. SPREAD WIDELY. DO NOT ENGAGE. WE NEED THIS NOTICE SPREAD OUT VIA EVERY GRASSROOTS SUPPORT GROUP AND SOCIAL CIRCLE IN THE COUNTRY.
URGENT. IF THEY GET EVEN ONE TO TAKE PART IT BECOMES A NATIONAL CONVERSATION. TOP ALERT.
Guardian journos are apparently asking trans people about DIY. Trans followers: DO NOT SAY ANYTHING TO THEM. NOT A WORD.
I also know I’ve got cis mutuals who have written for the Guardian. Please know I’ve always thought less of you because of that.
