Call me Red. Writer, Avid Reader, Video Game Junkie. I'm a huge high fantasy dork - from Tolkien to Sanderson, but I also like sci-fi and horror as genres as well. My fandoms tend to be all over the place so this is definitely a multi-fandom blog. If you haven't seen my AO3 page, check it out (I've got stuff for The Boys, Borderlands, and Once Upon A Time): https://archiveofourown.org/users/Redbone135

I was reading one of the Buffyverse novels [These Our Actors by Ashley McConnel and Dori Kogler] and came across this passage and just NEEDED to draw it. Peak Spike characterisation. To me.

every writer has That One Scene that lives in their head rent-free but they can’t write it yet because “the vibes aren’t ripe”

i just don't think that people should have to disclose their deepest and most life-ruining traumas as a requirement to write about sensitive topics

okay, but there’s such a big implication when Spike goes to get his soul beside the obvious (horror, regret, love, the need to be better etc.) that needs to be addressed. because he decided that night, in like an hour, what he was going to do, and he knew exactly where to go. which means that he had researched how to get a soul before any of that happened. he had thought about it. he knew what he had to do and who he had to ask. the final choice to do it might have happened quickly, but his consideration about earning his soul for Buffy had been present for some time. and that speaks a lot to his dedication to grow and be better and be a man who Buffy could love.

wait i just realized the whole "i can't save buffy i have no breath" thing that angel says in season 1 is actually so funny because like. lungs are basically just balloons that you inflate using your muscles. breathing is not a special power it's just your diaphragm muscles. also vampires can talk so obviously they have the capacity to inflate their lungs and use the air for their vocal chords. so there is really no reason angel couldn't have given her cpr?

i actually need to know people's thoughts on this because at least in my experience the answer to this has drastically changed since i was on tumblr in the 2010s and its driving me fucking insane
*im talking about fandom takes specifically. not someone being horribly evil about a real-life issue or or blatantly factually incorrect. literally just harmless fandom disagreements or differing interpretations of a text/character/etc.
#Shrug and move on#You don't know why people think - process - write about Fandom the way they do#Don't engage with things you don't enjoy#But dont shame - argue - vague post people for things you might not get

Angel, brooding "I've outlived Cordelia. Someday I'll outlive Buffy and my friends. I'm going to outlive everyone I've ever known"
Spike "Except me"
Angel, brooding harder "Except you"
