Yutaka appreciation post!!!! LESSSGOOOOO

Yutaka is a little treasure box!! He is so stiff and repressed from the trauma of his childhood that he has a tight lid on his best qualities but being with the Ueda family brings them out so well.

Yutaka is a quick and creative problem-solver. When Minoru can’t think of what to do to the porridge to make Tane enjoy eating it Yutaka comes up with an idea within minutes. He does the same with his impromptu instant food feast idea. He creates a very elaborate indoor zoo when the rain keeps them stuck inside. When he is in over his head with his commitment to make a cute lunchbox for Tane he notices his co-worker has a wonderful lunchbox and asks her to teach him immediately. He is always finding a way around his problems to a quick and resourceful solution. 

Even his rice ball meals are a brilliant solution to his food issues. He was criticized for not knowing how to use a fork and knife so he chooses a food you eat with your hands. The flashback we’ve seen so far (up to ep 5 atm) makes it seem like he did not get any input into the menu so every meal was a surprise of ingredients that he wasn’t familiar with and didn’t enjoy. So now as an adult he chooses rice balls which has a constant base of the wrapper and the rice and then he can choose very simple ingredients to go with it. He has total control and it is familiar every time. 

Yutaka is generous! He uses his time to teach Minoru and Tane how to make the rice balls, plus all the time that went into the lunchboxes! 

He is generous with his money too. At the beginning of ep 1 we see Yutaka shopping for his own dinner and he specifically buys only a few items to eat and he chooses something that was on sale. But he was happy to buy lots of different things to put in the Ueda lunchboxes. 

He is generous with his advice and encouragement. He gives Minoru and Tane lots of vocal feedback telling them when they are doing well.

He keeps his promises. When he first comes to the Ueda house to teach about the rice balls Minoru says he didn’t expect Yutaka to show up (that shows a bit about poor Minoru’s experience trying to keep friends) and Yutaka says that he had made a promise so of course he would come! I am telling you to rewatch that scene and just pay attention to Minoru’s face in response. He is so impacted and astonished that someone would really honor a promise made to himself and Tane. Its so heartbreaking but wonderful. 

Yutaka has so many good qualities! These are just a few! I cant wait to see how he continues to become more brave and free as he spends more time with the Ueda’s
