How Your Vegan Diet Can Positively Affect Animals
Needless to reiterate, going vegan basically means restricting yourself to plant produce and avoiding food, as well as products derived from animals. Well, veganism comes with multiple benefits, and one of them is that it benefits animals.
Remember, animals have feelings, and if science is anything to go by, humans are also animals, only that we’re more intelligent than the others.
Apart from benefiting animals, a vegan diet can have numerous benefits for you, considering the many health risks associated with taking meat and other foods from animal origin.
From improving your health to reducing animal cruelty, and saving the environment, here are a few ways how your vegan diet can positively affect animals.
A Healthier You Is Good For Animals
Whether domesticated or wild, animals depend on us to a certain extent for their survival, health, and wellbeing.
Pets, for instance, require our care, love, and affection. If you keep a cat, dog, or fish, the creature will depend on you for food, shelter, and treatment when they get sick.
But can you take care of a pet if your own health is suffering? Of course not!
With a vegan diet, on the other hand, you’ll be healthy, strong, and happy. Alex Arnstrom from Vegan Liftz asserts that living a vegan lifestyle is both healthy and ethical. What’s more, there’s a wide range of vegan recipes, supplements, and protein sources for those who want to build an attractive body off of a vegan diet.
All in all, a vegan diet keeps you strong and healthy enough to provide the utmost care for your pets or domesticated animals. Surprisingly, vegan food for pets is also available these days.
No More Slaughtering
Thanks to the ever-growing demand for meat, meat products like burgers, and animal products like hides and skin around the world, millions of animals die every day at the hands of men in the slaughterhouse.
The domestication of cows, goats, sheep, pigs, ducks, turkey, and chicken also forces these animals to be confiscated and caged. Some never get enough sunlight, fresh air, and socialization with their peers.
From an ethical point of view, these animals are denied various rights and freedoms, including the right to life and comfort.
The good thing is that according to estimates by researchers, you can save from 90-100 animals each year by observing a vegan diet. Ain’t this a good reason to feel good about yourself as a vegan?
It Helps To Stop Animal Cruelty
In animal husbandry practices, the use of growth hormones and other chemicals to enhance meat, milk, and egg production is nothing new.
Apart from being kept in crowded and uncomfortable conditions, some chemicals used such as rBGH have even been thought to cause cancer and other health issues.
If you’ve seen a cow or pig being butchered, your humane part may not let you eat meat again.
Killing aside, potentially millions of animals are blinded or poisoned in the course of rearing, feeding, and breading, not forgetting the good number of them used in consumer product testing.
By keeping it vegan, you are actually an advocate against animal cruelty.
A Better Environment
Last but not least, a vegan diet makes you a friend of the environment, which animals heavily depend on for their wellbeing.
It reduces the use of pesticides and herbicides, which are known to cause catastrophic effects on Mother Nature over time.
Some agricultural and food manufacturing processes, for instance, lead to the destruction of natural habitats of animals and water bodies.
Well, thanks to effects such as global warming, humans are realizing just how careful they need to be with the environment.
And there you have it; the icing is on the cake. Going vegan is among the best decisions you can make in life.
It can benefit you physically, mentally, and spiritually. Most importantly, it can positively affect animals in the above ways!

Why Does My Dog Follow Me Everywhere?
Dog’s loyalty is unquestionable. They always want to be around with their owner all the time, but too much can be frustrating. This habit is unhealthy for both you and your dog because it might make you trip over and have a sudden visit to the ER and on your dog’s side, he might be masking shadowing a physical or behavioral problem. If you’re wondering why does my dog follow me everywhere? here are five possible explanations why:
1. Separation Anxiety
Tumblr media
Does your dog become alert when you change clothes? Or even when you’re just going to the bathroom? With constant observation, dogs can learn the cues indicating that their owner is leaving which causes excessive distress.
Shelter dogs are more likely to be “Velcro dogs” or clingy because they’ve experienced being left behind before. To help your dog’s anxiety, make sure to tend all his needs before leaving.
Avoid touching and eye contact once you’re ready to go. If their anxiousness is severe, do a five-minute drill first until they get used to an hour and longer.
2. Breed Traits
Tumblr media
Some breeds called “working dogs” have been reared for hundreds of years to perform a practical task that requires them to be heavily dependent on their owners. They observe their master’s smallest cues for direction and guidance.
Originally, herding dogs are breeds that help livestock owners in guiding their flocks; these include Collies, Shelties, Australian Cattle dog, and Pembroke Welsh Corgi.
Hound dogs like German Shepard, Dachshund, Saluki, and Bloodhound are another example, they were initially trained by hunters to track and attack prey.
3. Unfulfilled Needs
If your dog is constantly following you everywhere, chances are he needs something from you. When was the last time that you feed him? Did you take him out for his regular walk? Or maybe it’s time for his potty break. Take care of all your dog’s needs and if his clingy behavior doesn’t change, try taking him to the vet for your pooch might be feeling unwell.
4. Curiosity
Dogs are like little children, they are very curious and don’t want to miss any detail happening with you. For them, following you means discovering something new.
Like when you get home from the grocery, you might find your dog sticking his nose to the grocery bags like he is inspecting what you bought. Dogs simply enjoy snooping around their owner and they want to be part of everything if they could.
5. Companionship
Over the years, dogs have bonded more with humans than their breed. Unlike humans who have different relationships like with our parents, siblings, significant other, officemates, classmates, etc. Dogs only have their owners. They see us as everything and we are their world. We are our dog’s main source of happiness, and they want to be around that source as much as they could.
There are usually a couple of reasons why your dog follows you everywhere. Generally, attending all their needs solve the issue, but if you notice that your dog clinginess is getting severe despite doing so, then it might be a sign to talk to the vet because it could be a health problem.

5 Hand Signals to Train Your Dog
Are you planning to train your dog? Well, I must say that teaching a dog is quite hard especially for beginners. But if you read this article, you will learn some tricks to make it easier using these 5 hand signals to train your dog.
Dogs are “body language communicators” meaning they are highly observant of their owner’s body language to perform a specific task. Whether you are teaching them to learn some tricks or simply as a way to discipline them, utilizing hand signals in your training are proven to be an extremely effective communication tool than verbal command alone.
5 hand signals to train your dog: Advantages of using hand signals
First, they require shorter training as it is easier for dogs to figure out hand signals than verbal commands. Second, they are straightforward and convenient to use. Lastly, it can be used even on deaf or elderly dogs that have trouble hearing.
If this is your dog’s first training experience, it is recommended to combine hand signals with spoken commands. Make sure to also give them a treat every time they do a good job as part of positive reinforcement training. Be consistent and start with these basic hand signals to train your dog.
Hand Signal #1:  Finger pointed upward – Sit
Tumblr media
This is the most common and basic trick for all dogs. Start by putting a treat in front of his nose and gradually raise it above his head. Naturally, a dog’s rump will go down when his head rises, thus making the sit position. Remember to combine the word “sit” while doing this hand gesture, and once your dog successfully follows the command, release the treat.
Hand Signal #2:  Finger pointed downward – Lie Down
Tumblr media
To start with this trick, hold a piece of treat in your hand while it is raised slightly above your head. Slowly bring it down in front of your dog’s nose while saying “Down” at the same time. By using this technique, you’re guiding your dog to lie down. Once your dog got it, give him a pat in the head and a treat.
Hand Signal #3:  Finger curling inwards – Come
Tumblr media
This trick might be more difficult to teach than “sit” and “lie down” because it can be confusing for dogs so, don’t skip directly on this one without learning the first two. Move five feet away from your dog and curl your fingers towards you. Do the hand gesture slowly while saying “Come” simultaneously.
Once he comes toward you, don’t forget to give him a kibble. While learning this command takes more time, you will truly appreciate its importance because it will keep your dog away from danger.
Hand Signal #4:  Palm Facing Out – Stay

Are you planning to train your dog? Well, I must say that teaching a dog is quite hard especially for beginners. But if you read this article, you will learn some tricks to make it easier using these 5 hand signals to train your dog. Dogs are “body language communicators” meaning they are highly observant of their owner’s body language to perform a specific task. Whether you are teaching them to learn some tricks or simply as a way to discipline them, utilizing hand signals in your training are proven to be an extremely effective communication tool than verbal command alone. 5 hand signals to train your dog: Advantages of using hand signals First, they require shorter training as it is easier for dogs to figure out hand signals than verbal commands. Hand Signal #1:  Finger pointed upward – Sit This is the most common and basic trick for all dogs. Start by putting a treat in front of his nose and gradually raise it above his head. Naturally, a dog’s rump will go down when his head rises, thus making the sit position. Remember to combine the word “sit” while doing this hand gesture, and once your dog successfully follows the command, release the treat. Hand Signal #2:  Finger pointed downward – Lie Down To start with this trick, hold a piece of treat in your hand while it is raised slightly above your head. Slowly bring it down in front of your dog’s nose while saying “Down” at the same time. By using this technique, you’re guiding your dog to lie down. Once your dog got it, give him a pat in the head and a treat. Hand Signal #3:  Finger curling inwards – Come This trick might be more difficult to teach than “sit” and “lie down” because it can be confusing for dogs so, don’t skip directly on this one without learning the first two. Hand Signal #4:  Palm Facing Out – Stay The same way a traffic enforcer stops a car, this hand gesture signals your dog to stay or stop.  You can alternate this drill with the “Come” signal making it like a “Stop and Go” game. When giving treat on this one make sure to only reward your dog when he fully stops. Do not reward him if he starts moving without the command to do so or else your dog will be confused that he is getting rewarded for moving. Hand Signal #5:  Thumbs up – Good job A good boi deserves praise! Together with treats or clicker, you can use this hand signal every time your dog completes a trick to tell that he did a great job. How Do Dogs Get Rabies?
Rabies is a deadly disease that can be transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected animal. It has been around for a very long time and causes the death of almost 60,000 people a year across the world. Children are particularly affected by it with round 40% of people bitten being children aged under 15 years old. When we think of how do dogs get rabies we should understand that infections can pass between animals as well as from animals to people.
What is rabies?
Rabies is a viral disease that causes a swelling of the brain. The virus is neurotropic, which means it disrupts the nervous system and eventually causes inflammation of the brain which leads to death. The first symptoms are often fever and tingling, which progress to violent and jerked body movements, unnatural excitement, confusion, aggression, clumsiness, disorientation, and increased dribbling. Dogs may also exhibit unusual behaviours such as developing an intense fear of water, biting, running away, and swallowing random objects.
The incubation period of rabies can vary from between a week to over a year. This difference is determined by the length of time is takes for the virus to travel from the initial bite site, to the brain via the spinal cord. It can take up to a year for symptoms to show, but once they do appear the disease most often results in death. Total paralysis of the body including the respiratory system, is the most common cause of death, and usually begins with the locking of the animal’s jaws. After the onset of any of these symptoms, no treatment is effective, and the animal must be euthanized. If treated early enough animals can successfully recover from the virus.

The rabies virus can be carried by a number of mammals including foxes, racoons, jackals and other wild carnivores. It is the saliva of an animal that contains the rabies virus. Therefore, the disease can also be transmitted to other mammals through licking and scratching. The virus can be transmitted to humans and other animals before any symptoms appear in the carrier mammal. Transmission of rabies from human to human is extremely rare and although it may have happened in isolated places, there are no documented and studied cases on record.
Rabies is a very fragile virus and cannot survive for long periods of time outside of the body. It is also very sensitive to light, heat and oxygen. Considering this, how do dogs get rabies is unlikely due to the sharing of chew toys or other objects between dogs and other animals. Although objects that have been handled by an animal with rabies will only be dangerous and contaminated for a short time, it is important not to allow other animals to use them until they have been thoroughly cleaned and dried.
Prevention of the virus
Vaccination is a very effective way to protect dogs against rabies. Vaccinations protect your dog against killer diseases, and they are likely to be a requirement if your dog goes into boarding kennels or travels abroad with you. Contact your local vet to make sure your pet is up to date with their relevant vaccinations to make sure they are kept safe from deadly diseases.
