It's kinda sad that I don't know the Word as well as I know the lines to my favorite media. So this is my way of fixing that. I learn best by reading and writing what I learn so I thought I'd put my meditations on a blog instead of scribbling on a notebook. Discourse is welcome.

My Impression of John 1:6-10
We’re introduced to John in these verses. Er.. John the Baptist. Not this book’s namesake, who is the Apostle John (one of Jesus’ original 12 disciples). There’s a lot of John’s in the first five gospels... Fun Fact: John the Baptist was actually Jesus’ cousin on his mom’s side... Where was I?
Whenever I read about this guy, I’m reminded of those doomsayers that accost random strangers on the street to warn them about the end of the world. They aren’t very effective because their behavior is upsetting. People usually give them the side eye and a wide berth.
But people didn’t avoid John the Baptist. Why? He was sent by God before Jesus came on the scene. It is my belief, that even if he was some hermit (who ate bugs and wore camel fur) he drew people to him by his teachings and works. One of those works was baptism. A holy rite where you are dunked under a body of water by an ordained minister who dedicates your life to the God.
While John was doing these works he was also waiting for Jesus to appear. He taught people about Christ before Christ made himself known to the people. What he taught was Light (Jesus) would come so that we’d all have light (salvation).
John the Baptist: Hey guys! God’s here. Our creator AND savior is finally here!

My Impressions of John 1:1-5...
The first five verses of John are a call back to the first few verses of Genesis from the Old Testament.
We refer to the Word as a synonymous representation of God. His thoughts and Words are not separate from his being. They are Him and He is they.
That's why you will never see us throwing the Bible on the ground, burning it, etc.; that's blasphemous. Anyway, these first five verses recur in a few other books (or so I'm told. Will find out later on as I continue). It tells us briefly that God existed before all creation and it also mentions that... He was with God. That "He" is referring to Jesus : who existed even way back when.
Then it casually mentions that God created everything in the universe. (Psst - He spoke. We're here because of His Words.) This includes life, something humans wouldn't have had without Him. Life is synonymous with light. Jesus also possesses this light and when he first came to this world through birth (because this isn't the first time he was here) he was surrounded by darkness a.k.a. sin.
When he was physically here, people who were in sin couldn't quite fathom Jesus, who was without sin. At first, His actions and speech often confused or awed, but clarification or explanations always followed. Jesus didn't just flip tables at the temple of Jerusalem for no reason. He actually told us instead of expecting us to automatically know what was wrong.
And... that was just the first 5 verses. 😯

John: Chapter 1 (verse 1 to 20)
1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2: He was in the beginning with God.
3: All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
4: In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5: And the light shines in the darkness, and darkness did not comprehend it.
6: There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7: This man came for a witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.
8: He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9: That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
10: He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
11: He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
12: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
13: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14: And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
15: John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’”
16: And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.
17: For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18: No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
19: Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”
20: He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.”

I’m starting from the New Testament’s gospel of John. Not to be confused with 1st John, 2nd John or 3rd John. The edition that I’m reading from is the New King James Version. (NKJV)
