Viral Interventions: Final Documentation
Materials used: water guns, red paint, water, colored poster boards, xacto knife, and glue.
Dimensions: 24x36 inches
We aimed to create a western style shooting scene as seen in “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly”, hence the background music. I feel as though our video was very rushed and didn’t include the best shots and locations for what we had in mind. I thought we would accomplish a well filmed and edited short film, but my group mates wanted it to be done quickly, as we didn’t redo any shot. If it were up to me, I’d completely redo how it was shot and directed, and maybe even plan it on a day where there’s sun out. We hung up the poster on the side of an AMC for the movie goers to watch.

Viral Interventions: Final artifact
Materials used: water guns, red paint, water, colored poster boards, xacto knife, and glue.
Dimensions: 24x36 inches

Our final artifact consists of the poster board after we shoot the board with water guns loaded with red colored water. It symbolizes violence and suffering that is heightened during the eclipse, which our sentence entails. To give it more emotion and context, I would make the water more opaque and red so it would dry to look like actual blood and to create a larger piece of art. possibly the size of a mural.

Viral Interventions: Process

Our process consisted of me designing a very simple symbol describing the sentence we have made. Christian printed it out 20 times for us to cut and paste onto a poster board, we ended up not liking how it looked so i cut out some of the figures and some abstract shapes representing stars and eclipses. If i could change one thing about it, it would be the scale of the poster. The shapes and cutouts would stay the same size to make it look like maximalism.

Viral Interventions: Final Proposal

Our sentence is “The eclipse heightened suffering during the shooting, prompting increase defense measures.”
I designed our art to illustrate an eclipse overshadowing and increasing a shooters intentions at a wall to symbolize defense measures. As for our installation , we have decided to make dozens of copies of the design onto pieces of paper and hang them up on a wall.

After the art has been hung up, our public performance will consist of us taking nerf guns and shooting the art covered wall. The location of our art performance will be in Wynwood, since the art scene is popular there and we wouldn’t get as in trouble if we were to do this in a school or mall.

Viral Interventions: Budget

Our budget overcompensates for the materials we have used. Poster boards, glue, water guns from dollar tree, and red paint are not equal to $30.00, especially if we already own some of the materials.

Viral Interventions: Timeline

The timeline we created is simple yet effective for time blocking. It’s well paced and easy to remember so we don’t procrastinate. After the project we did in fact do the things on each day listed. Nothing felt rushed in the grand scheme of things.

Viral Interventions: Tasks

Our task list consists of everyone having their respective duties, which might differ in the end. Luis is to source the material that we need such as glue and poster boards. Sharon and I will be designing the poster, but everyone will create it. Christian is to interact with the public.
After the project: Luis supplied the poster and the glue for us to use. Christian and I brought a water gun to the public space. Sharon edited the video and I was the one who made the entire poster and design. Luis, Christian and I participated in the presentation.

Viral Interventions: Proposal
First Proposal: In our initial proposal, a collective decision was made to designate one individual to illustrate our concepts, utilizing our collaborative input and ideas. The central theme of the first proposal is symbolized by a firearm encased within a badge, serving as a poignant metaphor advocating against silence and the epidemic of gun violence. Across all demographics, ranging from children to adults, lives are tragically lost daily. The focal point of my article highlighted the tragic loss of a 23-year-old security guard, a victim of a fatal altercation among patrons within a bar's patio in Doral. This incident resulted in six additional casualties: four men, two women, and a Doral Police officer who sustained an injury to the leg from gunfire. Such tragedies underscore the imperative to reevaluate the legality of firearm possession, restricting access to individuals beyond law enforcement personnel.
Second Proposal: The imagery centers around a gun enclosed within a circular motif, inspired by a parallel theme evoked by the recent solar eclipse phenomenon.
Third Proposal: In our final proposal, we have conceived a concept that embodies a barrier of protection, symbolically separating the aggressor from the victim. This visual representation is envisioned as a monumental installation, potentially on a billboard scale, although we acknowledge the logistical challenges. Despite the impracticality, the creative vision seeks to convey a powerful message to the global community without explicitly stating it in words. Additionally, we are contemplating a more interactive approach, possibly in a park setting, where posters could be displayed on a volleyball net. The act of throwing balls at these posters serves as a metaphorical call to action, urging society to confront and halt the epidemic of gun violence.

Flag Race Challenge
For the flag race challenge, my friend and I decided to use the parameters of campus. I started at the Student Health Center, and she started at the Mango parking lot. Each point was around 5 minutes away from the panther statue. She had won the race by about 1 or 2 minutes, which then I had finally caught up to her. We ran into another classmate as we were filming the ended scene so he had a cameo.
My adoration for animals is so strong that I wanted my flag design to contain 6 of my favorite animals colored in pastel colors. I used posca paint pens and acrylic paint on 3x5“ fabric.

READ: https://www.local10.com/news/local/2024/04/08/dog-found-on-streets-of-hollywood-believed-to-have-been-stabbed-with-machete
IDENTIFY:

COMPOSE: The eclipse heightened suffering during the shooting, prompting increased defense measures.

PRESENT:
With the solar eclipse happening and a recent shooting in Doral, our collaborative sentence focused on those two topics; along with two words from the articles about a dog being stabbed, and a basketball game. The eclipse can been seen as a literal overshadowing of the other articles, especially the shooting where a 23 year old FIU student has died.
There are much more important matters than the solar eclipse that happened on monday. The attention the eclipse received surpassed and literally overshadowed other recent events such as the doral shooting and a dog killed by a machete. We decided to utilize the FIU stadium as our area to showcase our collaborative sentence. Using an empty stadium as a symbol is a way to highlight how certain stories can go unheard despite their significance. It’s crucial to ensure that all important matters, regardless of their visibility, receive the attention and acknowledgment they deserve.

Iconic Places
My iconic place is campus and the beach. I came to Miami for FIU so most of my memories are created on campus with some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. I enjoy walking around campus in my free time as I find that it calms me down and FIU generally has a nice campus. I went to Miami beach recently and decided to include it as well since the beach is one of my happy places. The song playing in the background is from the movie “Scarface” because it’s set in Miami and it came to mind first when thinking of a song for this assignment.

Framing the space
Using an old bedsheet, some yarn, a hanger, and the wooden frame from a previous project for this class, I have disrupted the space by creating a 3D projector screen with four layers of framing. Any image or video can be projected onto it to create various installations with different moods and meanings, whether it be straight on, or projected on the side to showcase the three dimensional aspect. For example, I chose to use an abstract painting I’ve made years ago to demonstrate how my installation has endless possibilities with what the final form can be.

The previous image shows my design process, originally I wanted to layer different sized holes within the bedsheet, but my lack of fabric scissors and ways to hold up the fabric without any sides falling over made it extremely difficult. Still, the final project is not far off from what I have imagined.

25°45'10.0"N 80°22'56.5"W
My approach was to create a performance that embodied a comforting and cozy atmosphere. I decided to use the color pink to symbolize femininity, youth, affection, and playfulness. The light on the floor shadows a pattern upon the space, which can resemble the starry night sky, also symbolizing a cozy night in. The three stuffed animals personally represent my three cats. They are all very loving and love to be held or follow me, which I demonstrated in the video. But without my explanation, it’s clear to see the performance showcases a calm and loving, almost motherly vibe from myself upon the stuffed animals coupled with the colored lighting.
