writing fanfiction is just. i’m being so creative and original. i’m plagiarizing everyone by accident. i’m a genius. i’m cringe. i’m too angsty. i’m too cheesy. this is not in character. it doesn’t matter that it’s not in character because these are my characters now. i love my hobby. this is the worst possible use of my time. i’m seeking validation. i’m projecting my own personal problems onto this story and i’m barely hiding it. i know so many words and i’m using all of them wrong. im on tumblr posting about it instead of writing it.

My take on a human au! Kaon finding out about the previous Vos being a spy

Vos, or Dominus Ambus as Kaon found out, trembled in the chair he was tied to. It made Kaon sick, seeing someone he once trusted acting so pathetic. Vos was violent. Ruthless. Fearless. But Dominus Ambus? A traitor. A coward. An Autobot.

"I'll leave this to you, Kaon." Tarn took his hand off of the communications officer's shoulder, and turned around to leave. The other DJD members had had their turn with Dominus. It was Kaon's time to shine. This kill would belong to him.

"Kaon.. Kaon.. you know me." Dominus looked at Kaon where his eyes should have been. "I'm your friend, your partner-"

"No. No you're not. You're no good, you're no good!" Lightning spewed out of Kaon's hands as he shook. At first, Dominus thought he was crying. But as Kaon walked closer, he realized he was wrong. Kaon was laughing. At first he was quiet, but soon Kaon was laughing so loud it hurt. Electric sparks lit the room around them in a dim glow.

"You're- you're a filthy liar! A fraud! I put my energy into loving you, and caring for you, and all you are is a filthy Autobot liar!" Kaon punched Dominus in the face. His fist let out a burst of electricity as it connected with Dominus' face. The traitor stifled a yell, but couldn't stop himself from convulsing with the shock.

"Kaon, I still care about you." Dominus said once he recovered. "I always will. No matter what you do to me here, I know you're a good person!" His red eyes grew bright as he spoke, still a spark of hope inside.

"Ha! You think- you really think you're that special! You think that with enough pleading you can 'bring me to the good side.' Don't make me laugh! I thought you were my partner, and you betrayed me. So it's different now. You met me as a stranger, and you'll die a stranger." There was no warmth in those words. There was none of that love they once had. Instead, there was a forbidding cold. An icy, hateful cold. It chilled Dominus to his core. Kaon couldn't see it, but he could feel it.

"Now, I think it's time we got down to business. The new vos will arrive soon, and I'd rather you two never meet."

You're Holy To Me Chapter 3 (MTMTE Tarn)

Tarn hadn't broken his morning routine once. Wake up. Shower. Brush teeth. Check the cameras. Get breakfast. See how much paperwork he had to deal with for the day and prepare for any missions. But his favourite part of the morning was a recent addition to his schedule. At eleven-thirty sharp he'd bring breakfast to _. While it's true that they were wary of him, they had no choice but to eat the food he gave him and Tarn relished in it.

Despite their best efforts, every aspect of their life was controlled by Tarn and Tarn alone. _'s walls were high, but the sheer social isolation eventually started to chip away at them. He would make sure to talk to them whenever he was with them. It would take a while, but Tarn could always work a reply out of them. It's not like they could refuse him, and he could tell they were already starting to crack. He had to be careful not to push it too much at first. Patience would be key to winning their affections after all. But sometimes it was hard to resist the urge to just tilt up his mask and... well that was beside the point.

Walking into their room, _ was already awake. They had taken to sitting at their desk, drawing using the supplies Tarn had gotten them. They were conflicted about using the things Tarn had given them. On one hand they were doing exactly what he wanted by giving in and making use of his gifts. On the other hand, it's not like there was any other option but to comply. Tarn's reputation preceded him and knowing what he was capable of doing if he so pleased sent a chill down their spine.

Even with his reputation and capabilities however, he had yet to so much as lift a finger at any insubordination from _. If _ didn't eat breakfast, nothing happened. If _ stayed in bed all day, the only difference in Tarn's usual routine would be that he'd simply pull a chair next to the bed and sit as he recounted the glories of the Decepticon cause.

Despite Tarn's seemingly infinite tolerance of their unwillingness to cooperate, _ made sure to never push it too far. This had only happened once. They hadn't gotten out of bed, hadn't eaten, so Tarn was sitting next to them droning on and on for hours about Decepticon history and how great the Decepticon cause was.

"As you can see in this section of Towards Peace Megatron says 'Even if you believe in the taxonomy, ask yourself this: Who decides on that order? And then: Why should there be an order?' What do you think about that, _?" _ didn't particularly care about megatron or what he had to say about an old taxonomy and they were tired enough to voice their opinion.

"I think I don't care. If anything I'm pissed at him because his number one enforcer is-"

In an instant his voice went from normal to threatening, sending a stab of pain through their heart. His hand held their arm and the collar of their shirt in a vice grip as he forcefully pulled them towards him, leaning in so his mask was pressed against their ear.

"_. Do not ever bring Megatron into this. Am. I. clear?"

"Tarn- I can't br-" _ managed to choke out before he interrupted them.

"All you have to do is apologize, alright?" It was suffocating and nauseating at the same time. _ couldn't see, couldn't breathe, and their arm was certainly bruised but they nodded fervently, anything to make it go away. Just as quickly as it had happened, Tarn gently set them down and the pain went away.

"Good. I'm so glad you understand. Are you alright?" The way he moved on like nothing had ever happened made a pit of dread pool in their stomach.

"... Yes."

Tarn could see the fear in their eyes, and did feel bad for them. It's true he may have gone too far with punishing them for their insolence, but as much as he loved them it was a necessary evil. Someday they will understand, he told himself. It's for their own good. In the meantime, he'd have to make sure to take them outside as a treat.

Looking back on that incident made _ shiver. It was a stark reminder of how unpredictable Tarn could be, even on his best days. When he was happy, he'd be easy to placate. Sometimes he'd even take them to the library, though even then their every move was monitored closely and they were blindfolded on the way to and from there to make sure they couldn't escape.

His worst days would more varied. Usually a bad day happened after an arduous mission or a long day with lots of paperwork. On those days would either talk for hours and hours about Megatron and his glory, or be absolutely silent, simply choosing to sit beside them.

But now as it reached 5 months of confinement _ had started on a plan, and all they could do was hope it would work.

Reasons to get an AO3 account as a reader

Every time I see someone who reads lots of fic on AO3 but doesn’t have an account, I have to wonder if they realize how many features AO3 has just for readers. This is not an exhaustive list, but here are a few (and I’ve saved the best for last!):

Bookmarks - You probably know these exist because you’ve seen them on fic you read. But did you know that you can:

Make private bookmarks that only you can see - they don’t show up when someone clicks that “bookmarks” link. Not even the author can see them. 


Organize your bookmarks with tags.

Filter them like you would a search.

Add your own comments/descriptions, either for your own benefit or the benefit of people looking for something to read. (Just remember that unless your bookmark is private everyone including the author can see tags & comments.)

History - AO3 can track every fic you’ve ever viewed. My history is 373 pages long. However, you can delete any fic from your history with the click of a button, clear your entire history at once, or turn this off.

“Marked for Later” - Some people use bookmarks to save fics they haven’t read yet, but there’s also a separate system for that. When you’re logged in there’s a “Mark for Later” button on each fic. Then you can filter your History down to just those Marked for Later. Once you’ve read a marked fic you can then hit the “Mark as Read”  button and it will drop off this

The downside to both the History and Marked for Later is that this system currently can’t be sorted or filtered beyond that, but it can be useful nonetheless if you want to save your Bookmarks for rereading your faves.

Locked fics - Some people lock their fics to registered users for many reasons. They don’t want their fics showing up in search engines, they don’t want bots stealing them, they’re having a troll problem, etc. Without an AO3 account you won’t even see that these exist.

Comment notifications - You have an inbox on AO3, and anytime anyone replies to one of your comments you will get a notification. No more having to go back and check fics to see if authors replied to you! You can also opt to get an email every time.

Customize how you see the site - You can use site skins, hide tags or warnings on fics, skip the extra step to view adult content (if you’re 18+), even customize how your browser titles the window.

Last but very much not least:

Subscribe to fics, series, or authors - I honestly don’t understand how anyone keeps up with WIPs without this.


Get an email every time a new chapter is posted, or every time one of your favorite writers posts a new fic or chapter!

Don’t want to read a WIP as it’s being posted? Subscribe and know as soon as the last chapter goes up.


Worth getting an account just for this alone tbh.

(Hitting subscribe is also one more way to show an author you care, although authors can’t see subscriber #s on series.)

There are probably more, but those are the main ones. Yes, you have to wait a few days to get an account, but it’s worth it. If you’re worried because you don’t want people seeing you kudos certain fics (that one tentacle fic you’ll never admit to having read?) - the way login is setup it’s actually super easy to log out, leave anonymous kudos, and log back in without leaving the fic. AO3 is designed by users; they’ve got your back.

And hey, if you ever decide to take the plunge and post something, that’s one step out of your way!

(And seriously, subscribing is a game-changer.)

ARCHIVE YOUR FIC ON AO3 FOR ETERNAL GLORY

It physically pains me to see people post awesome fanfiction to tumblr and nowhere else. Tumblr moves so fast! By tomorrow people who didn’t look in a tag at the right moment won’t know it existed. By next week even people who did read it won’t be able to find it back to reread. Finding anything on tumblr via search function is practically a fluke. For all intents and purposes, your hard work has a halflife of about a week at most.

PUT YOUR WORK ON AO3 WHERE IT CAN LIVE ETERNALLY, I BEG YOU

People who come into that fandom in a month, a year, even a decade will be able to find your work!

People can bookmark it!

People can rec it to others!

People can reread it into infinity! (and people like me can do that and comment every time!)

You can get comments & kudos until the endtimes because people will keep finding your work! (seriously I still sometimes get new people finding and loving my work from ~2013)

And best of all, people can SUBSCRIBE to your work so they will get email about new chapters and stories! (I’m seeing people do manual ‘Tag you in the next chapter’ lists and seriously, physical pain, this wheel has already been invented and it is rolling beautifully)
