AOTW Jul 6-12

Yes. Five has returned. I've done a lot of music listening as of late, since I have nothing better to do.

This week's album is A Crow Looked At Me by Mount Eerie! This album I came across on.... *sigh* tiktok... A girl made a list of her top sad songs and Real Death from this album was on there. Needless to say, that is also my favorite song on the album. This album has 11 songs and is just under an hour long total.

So, I don't actually know much about Mount Eerie... and you guys know that I love to give short history lessons on every album/artist I post.

A Crow Looked At Me is a folk album, according to discogs. And while skimming through Wikipedia, I found that Phil Elverum of The Microphones is actually Mount Eerie!! That's so cool!!!

Elverum has actually stated that he doesn't want to be the saddest musician on Earth, which he said on the Atlantic post. I think that's sort of ironic, because the songs on this album in particular are severely depressing lol

A little insight on me listening to this album.... I was actually up really late at night just crying nonstop. I was sad that day because the person I am sort of romantically (not really) involved with hadn't texted me in, like, maybe a week. I cried so much listening to this album, I fell asleep of exhaustion. When I woke up the next morning, I put A Crow Looked At Me back on and cried until I fell asleep again. I guess... I sort of connected to this album. It's so sad and I enjoy it's themes of death. It's a great album, but I also sort of wish I never listened to it? It's made me a lot sadder, but I can't turn it off!!!!!!!!!

I'm back... kinda.....

Hey guys, sorry for totally disappearing. I know what you're wondering. Where the hell are the past couple of AOTW?!?!?!

I'm here to tell you why I didn't post any. I got depressed. Errrr that's kind of it? Just, ok, a lot has happened!!! I got half-dumped (like 4 times by the same person) (mathmatically i think that means i was dumped 2 time but idk) , there's a pretty big divorce happening in my family, And it's also summer break and break is my personal time to reflect om how im actually just a floater friend #whoops

It's TOTALLYYYY cool though. I will be back this Sunday with a new album for you all, I pinky swear. I've been trying to listen to as many albums as I can so I can be 1000% ready for you guys.

Also, to put some light on current events, my heart breaks for anyone who is scared to go outside right now. What ICE is doing is horrible, what the Trump administration is doing is horrible. I know for many, it may seem like a lot in the world is going against you, and things may seem hopeless. But I promise there are people fighting for you, with you, and I promise you are more than what these idiots in office have to say. To those protesting ICE, please stay safe out there. And please remember it's not just the deportations. It's the system. It is so incredibly difficult for immigrants to get ahold of legal status here in the US, please speak up for a better immigration system as well. Please call your senators, mayors, governors, Anyone, and express your concerns.

AOTW June 1-8

This is week 3!!! And I'm semi on time this week!!!! Horray!!!

This week's album is Jane Remover's Revengeseekerz! It's a part of a self pioneered genre called dariacore (correct me if i am wrong, of course). My favorite track is angels in camo.... I love all the breaks and video game samples in the album, I think it is just soooo kickass!!!! The album is 46 minutes long with 12 tracks.

Jane (who uses they/them pronouns) released music on SoundCloud for a while, udner countless psuedonyms (H8P8GE, High Zoey, Dltzk, ect.) Their music is inspired by dubstep, underground rap, EDM, and other genres. Mashing up all of their different influences eventually debuted their special genre, dariacore (as mentioned previously).

Jane's blown up a bit outside of underground hyperpop spaces with the release of this album and I honestly couldn't be happier for them. Jane has had an interest in producing music since around 2011, but I believe they started making music in 2017.

A lot of Jane's music has video game sounds as samples. In this album specifically, you can hear sounds sampled from Mario vs Sonic, Fortnite, Pokemon, and various other video games. They say that their collection of video game samples grows bigger every single day and I'm so excited to hear what else they have in store :)

I would personally argue that their music has some emo influence, lyrically, at least. Especially in Revengeseekerz. Despite it's high energy sound, the lyrics are pretty sad when you listen to their music closely. Definitely an album I'd recommend to a friend, which, of course, is why I've decided to make it album of the week!! I hope if you listen to it, you enjoy it so so much!!

sorry this is so late... i had a hard time picking an album..... it was between this and transatlanticism

sleepytime trio's memory-minus! 1998 screamo, and it fucking ROCKS!!! unlike modern screamo, the instrumentals aren't super messy and the screaming isnt hard to understand. its very classic. All 14 songs on the album are soooo perfect, I have a hard time picking a favorite.. It's like I think a song is my fav and then the next one starts, yknow? Literally a perfect album :')

A history lesson about the band! sleepytime trio was formed in Harrisonburg, Virginia and is an experimental emo-hardcore band. They were also originally a Maximillian Colby side project, with Drew Ringo on guitar!

They stayed mostly a local band, majority of their shows were in the mid-atlantic region (so east coast). Their very last show was, I believe, in 2018 at the Strange Matter venue in Virginia :)

My personal inspiration, Washed Up Emo, interviewed Johnathan Fuller and they cited Hoover as a inspiration for sleepytime trio!! (Hoover is an amazing band, please check them out if you haven't already).

There isn't much about them that I could find when researching for this week, but that checks out since they were pretty underground while they were still active! I haven't stumbled across much online discussion besides the Washed Up Emo interview and maybe 2 or 3 r/emo reddit posts...

May 22 ive been collecting these WAY out of season keychains from target recently. obviously, theyre from christmas time, but theyre still pretty much entirely in stock at my target so i grab a blind bag anytime im there (T_T) i want vader SO BAD i love anakins character in the prequel trilogy... what a troubled young man :'(

This album was so weird in, like, the best way possible. It's experimental electro-pop, and it makes me think of my mom, since that's one of her favorite genres.

I listened to (around half of) this album in the shower, which I think influences my overall opinion a little. I like jamming out while I shower and this album made me feel like I could be out at a rave or a club or something.... which I really liked!! Also, when I went to look at more about Jockstrap, I saw that a member of Black Country, New Road is on it!! Georgia's vocals are NO short of amazing, as per usual. My favorite track is gonna have to be Glasgow. It's definitely one of the more laid-back songs on the album, but I loved Georgia's voice and the lyrics :')

May 6th strawberry matcha! It's from a local coffee shop downtown from my city. Friggin DELISH!! So expensive, but so delish.... I really hated that it was pretty much 10 bucks, but whatever. I guess you pay for the quality. 7.5/10 overall rating, points deducted for the price.

AOTW May 16-24

First album of the week on my brand new blog! Scary!!

This week's album is Glocca Morra's 2012 album, Just Married. Emo rock at it's finest!!!!! It stands at 31 minutes and 8 seconds with 11 tracks, and each one is AMAZING!! If I had to pick a personal favorite though, it'd be tied between Irrevocable, Motherfucker or Theories On Relativity By David Nicholas By Glocca Morra.

Glocca Morra is was a Philly-based indie-punk band from around 2007 or 2009 (sources seem to float around those years) to 2014. The band's original lineup of members were Zack Schwartz, Arik Dayan, Jean-Paul Casanova, and Ruben Gallego (with Nate Dionne taking over for Ruben around 2011.) They're all still friends, or at least that's what Zack said in a FaceBook post, but they have confirmed as recent as January 2021 that the band is never getting back together.

The album is actually considered a rarity since it hasn't been repressed since.... I believe it's release? (someone correct me if that's wrong) I really hope to get my hands on an official record, or to at least someday burn my own CD with this album on it LOL. They have another album but I haven't actually listened to it yet. Once I do, I will review it for you all ASAP!

Kinda makes me sad that I'm too young to have experienced a Glocca Morra show, but if splitting up was the best thing they could've done for each other, than I'm happy for them. RIP Glocca Morra! Much love!
