After a crazy long delay, here is my gift for @sakuravixen as a part of the @monstertronexchange ! :’) They requested some siren!lance, merman!keith, and selkie!pidge for an ocean creatures!voltron au. Bringing this prompt to life was such a fun learning experience! I’ve never drawn sea monsters before nor made a drawing with an underwater setting, so this prompt gave me the opportunity to start practicing. I hope you like the outcome! 💕

Going on that one quest probably gave Keith a lot more trouble than he intended.
rating: teen warnings: none (please let me know if there is one needed)
hey @vrepitsorrynotsorry! I was your @monstertronexchange gifter and I’m aware that I’ve apologised already in the notes part of the fic, but just want to say sorry again for the delay :’) hope you enjoy! ^^

Keith had the most marriage proposals out of all the paladins, but after being universally recognized as the Galra Emperor (even if it was on accident) the proposals increase x10. Ezor won't stop laughing and Kolivan is overprotective.

gentron week drabbles [day seven]
you all know when this takes place and it was the second scene after black paladins in which i was crying the most/felt saddest in
prompt: long-distance friendship || "I love you" word count: 100 [drabble] read on ao3
It was inevitable. Yet nobody wished to say so. Teary eyes all looked at one another. There was numbness within everyone.
Allura.
She seemed at peace, despite what was to happen.
Shiro looked the bravest, yet a certain sense of sadness was visible in his eyes.
Keith's face was empty, staring right ahead, refusing to believe it.
Lance was motionless, tears already escaping.
Hunk stared forwards, words on his lips he could not articulate.
Pidge's eyes were cast downwards, silent tears falling.
"I love you, I love all of you so much." With those her final words, Allura was gone.

gentron week drabbles [day six]
prompt: café // coffee shop au || food // meal sharing word count: 100 [drabble] read on ao3
"What would you like today?" Maybe today would be a nice and normal day at the cafe, Keith really hoped that-
"Your number please~" And then all hopes dropped. Keith mentally sighed.
"Sir, please pick something that is actually on the menu."
And with a little more of back and forth, Keith's patience was running thin. Shiro, thank goodness, noticed Keith's slight discomfort and quickly moved over to take over.
The situation was quickly disfused with Shiro's 'no nonsense' attitude with the customer and once over, Keith sent a quick whispered "thank you."
Honestly, Keith just really needed a break.

gentron week drabbles [day five]
prompt: hanahaki disease || cuddling word count: 100 [drabble] read on ao3
Pidge grumbled. It had been a bad day. Work was piling up and honestly? Pidge could really feel her eyelids drooping. However, they soon snapped open when you felt a small poke at her side.
She turned her head. "Go away Lance." He was sitting next to Pidge, with a grin on his face.
Lance didn't budge, eyes narrowing. "No, you need love and affection and I'm going to give it to you." He leaned in closer and encased Pidge in his arms.
"There's no need."
"You're touch starved, stop working so much." With a sigh, Pidge leaned into Lance.

gentron week drabbles [day four]
prompt: mistaken for couple || dancing word count: 100 [drabble] read on ao3
"Please come back alive, Lance." Hunk mumbled, plopping himself on the bench, dizzy from the teacup ride Lance had insisted on going on.
"No worries, I can handle any rollercoaster!" And off he went, towards (possible) certain death.
"How long have you been together?" The eldery lady sitting next to Hunk asked him.
"Huh?" Hunk stared blankly at her, then he realised what she was talking about. Lance was always showing more affection than what normal friends did. "Oh, no! We're just really good friends!"
The lady laughed it off, apologising. "You two reminded me of me and my wife."

gentron week drabbles [day three]
prompt: soulmate au || hand holding word count: 100 [drabble] read on ao3
"50% for all couples." Lance was staring at the restaurant poster, muttering as he did so. It was Valentine's Day and Lance & Pidge had decided to have a 'singles' day out (Lance's idea).
Pidge squinted. She hadn't wanted to be dragged out and she knew what was going to happen when Lance turned around. "No." She quickly cut him off before he could say anything.
Lance turned and looked towards Pidge. "Please? We don't have to do anything, we can just hold hands and that'll be it."
"..."
"I'll buy you peanut butter cookies."
"Fine," Pidge grumbled. Sacrifice was needed.

gentron week drabbles [day two]
prompt: childhood friends || clothes sharing word count: 100 [drabble] read on ao3
"Keith!" Hearing his name, Keith turned. It was Lance once again.
Keith was ten, like Lance and fairly aware of the concept of friends, but Keith was still wary of him. Yet it seemed that Lance absolutely loved to hang out with Keith despite the boy's silence. Keith frowned. Why was Lance so eager?
"Lance?" Seeing that Keith hesitated, Lance stopped in his tracks, face falling.
"Do you not like me?"
"..." There was silence from Keith. He looked down, seemingly a little surprised. "Are we friends?"
"Yes!" Lance blinked, then his face broke out in a large grin. "We are!"

gentron week drabbles [day one]
yes, I have written seven drabbles for gentron week and they are all 100 words and no one is stopping me (has stopped) because I have actually completed something/s and that is enough for myself
prompt: bed-sharing // sleepover || forehead kisses word count: 100 [drabble] find on ao3
They had called it a team bonding exercise. The paladins didn't quite agree. As far as they were aware, all Allura and Coran had done was push them into a bedroom and closed the door on them.
It was also promptly locked right afterwards.
The team all looked at one another. Then at the contents of the room. A singular bed (albeit quite large) and various forms of entertainment.
The paladins all looked at one another.
Then Lance, always the one to find the most in bad situations, broke out into a large smile. "Well I guess it's bonding time!"

writing asian characters
as a half asian person, asian representaion is important to me, and i’m sure it is to all the other asians out there. but incorrect representation is far worse than no representation at all, so here are a few guidelines and things to keep in mind when writing an asian character.
things to keep in mind when naming:
please don’t make up names that “sound asian”. well known offender: cho chang from harry potter. hearing people mock me when i speak in my asian language by saying “ching chong chang” is bad enough, but making us asians read/hear about a character whose name is a constant reminder of that ignorance and racism really, really bothers me.
if the character was born in a different country, our first names aren’t always native to our language/country. we may or may not have a traditionally english name. a great example of this used correctly is ethan nakamura, from the percy jackson series.
coming up with a last name is not difficult - at all. just google “common (insert country/ethnicity) last names” and they’ll come up. use this for other ethnicities/races too!
this is really just common sense but don’t give a traditionally korean name to a japanese character, vietnamese name to a chinese character etc. (unless they are multiple ethnicities).
guidelines for physical descriptions:
please…don’t say they have slanted eyes. just don’t. almond eyes is a good alternative.
our skin isn’t yellow. we aren’t lemons. also, the asian race incorporates not just east asians but also filipinos and other much darker skinned people.
many east asians have straight, thick black hair. but again, even within the asian race we are diverse, so this isn’t always true.
of course, if your asian character is being faced with racism, you can have the racist character make fun of their eyes or skin. some asians make fun of themselves, but make sure you check w multiple asians to see if this joke is ok.
writing personalities, characteristics, quirks, etc.
asians can have any personality, just like any black, white, or hispanic character. they can be mean, they can be nice. just make sure that if you only have one asian character, they aren’t shown as a villain. if you have multiple asians on both the “good” and “bad” sides, that’s perfectly ok.
stereotypes can definitely affect your character. be concious of them.
people’s personalities and quirks are shaped by their parents/how they were raised. an asian kid adopted by white parents is not going to act the same way or entirely fit in with other asians raised by asian parents. their cultures (or their parents cultures) will affect them.
asian cultures
asians can be racist to other asians. in the past, koreans and japanese do not get along, and that has really showed in the japanese side of my family. my mother is quick to stereotype koreans she sees, but she does have korean friends she gets along with. racism among asians exists, and it’s not always black and white. rasicm also exists against other races; i’ve heard of an asian daughter who wasn’t allowed by her parents to marry a black man.
asians can have friends of multiple races/ethnicities
not all asians know their respective languages. some only know a little, some are completely fluent.
asians don’t know everything about other asian cultures, and can still accidentally insult other cultures. each culture is very different, so do your research on each one.
universal asian culture things: 1) no shoes in the house. 2) do well in school. 3) strict rules on cleanliness, going out, friendships, relationships, and curfew. 4) mothers always wear slippers for some reason. 5) attacking insolent children with said slippers. 6) screaming
religion is also varied. usually it’s either christianity or buddhism, although there are of course, exceptions. the native japanese religion is shinto.
taiwan was recently the first country to legalize gay marriage, which is good news, but that also means that many asian countries are against it or don’t fully support gayness. not all asians are like this! but it’s common for asian parents to be less understanding of this kind of stuff so keep that in mind if your asian character is going to be gay.
stereotypes and their affects
asians are smart. this one probably came around because many asian parents are very strict when it comes to their child’s education, but strictness doesn’t equal understanding a subject you just don’t get. this stereotype is usually detrimental to asians because people expect too much of them. if they do well, it’s expected and less people congratulate them. if they don’t, they’re shamed for it more.
asians are bad drivers. this one doesn’t affect asians as badly as the smart stereotype, but it’s still insulting.
asians all look alike. again, this one isn’t really that bad, just very annoying. yeah, some of us look similar, but a lot of us are very different. i was once compared to a guy who was fully vietnamese, whose skin must have been at least ten shades darker, with black hair and was on the chubby side. i’m japanese, half white, with brown hair, and definitely thinner than him. if i genuinely look like the person you’re comparing me to, it’s not a problem, but it’s definitely offensive when we’re very different types of asian. we are all different and unique, and it’s important that people respect that.
it’s important to remember that not all of the things i said are always true - there are always exceptions. i’ve probably missed a lot of things. i also don’t pretend to know about every different kind of asian. so if you have anything to add, feel free, and if you have any questions about how to portray an asian, ask someone of that ethnicity!
it’s okay if you didn’t realize that you belived in a stereotype or that you might have said something offensive once, as long as you learn from it and don’t do it again in the future. i hope non-asians learned something from this post. good luck writing your asian characters! heck yea representation
