Hideo: Oh man, I love Eastern Newts.
Here's the subspecies that I've been workking with off and on...
Central Newt (Notophthalmus viridescens louisianensis), family Salamandridae, found in the central and SE United States
There are 4 subspecies of the Eastern Newt.
The larvae and adults are aquatic, but the middle sub-adult phase, called an "eft" is terrestrial. Som populations, usually in areas that commonly flood, forego the eft phase.
