Hello everyone! It’s been a very successful school year so far. All of the students that I’m coming across are eager to learn everything they can about the fashion industry. Anyway, I wanted to see what everyone was up to!

Show Your Style || Past Headcanon

Being a part of the fashion industry was harder than most would believe. It wasn’t that people looked at those who made a name for themselves and thought that it had been easy for them, everyone knew it was a cut throat industry, but they didn’t realize just how difficult it was. Samaira knew when she decided to pursue this career path that it was going to likely be beyond her grasp. When she arrived at college, she set her mind to learning everything that she could, in hopes of being able to do something with her chosen career path. Samaira was a dedicated, and hard worker. She knew she could do that much, but she wasn’t sure how it would help her in the future.

As the semesters passed, Samaira realized that she had a real knack for fashion. She had made quite a name for herself where her own style was concerned, and how she dressed. The real opportunity came when they were supposed to have a small runway show of their own. She took the opportunity to solidify what her style was going to be at that moment. Indian fashion had such a large impact on her life, and as she had always wanted to show the beauty of it to the world, she decided to set her foot down and show it to everyone. 

No second was wasted in creating her pieces. The person she chose to model was a good friend of hers, an artist in the city, wanting to make a living painting and doing sculptures. They were friends because they were both honest with the other. Samaira was told when something didn’t look completely right, and her friend’s input sincerely helped her. Once the day came, Samaira felt a nervousness that she never had before. This was going to show her whether she could potentially make it in this industry, or not. The models showed off the various different pieces, and she saw things that she was excited about, as well as her own clothes. At the end of it all, those who had participated were lined up and given constructive criticism. The winner was not Samaira, instead she had come in second. Despite losing, she had one thing to take away from it as a consolation, and that was that her style had been unique in comparison. She still had more to learn, but she was well on her way.

I would love to still go out for Italian night! Don’t you worry. I’ll wear something very lovely so that way it’ll look good in photos. When would you be up to going?

Truthfully, I haven’t spoken to many men here, and maybe only one or two more than once. I don’t think I can fairly say that I’ve had much of a chance to develop any type of feelings more than potential friendships with those I’ve spoken to.

Sari’s are such beautiful garments. They are so pretty and the fabric is gorgeous.  I wish I could wear my Havannas at work but its totally against the health rules and regulations. Do you make bags and jewelry as well? I’d love to see some of your work.

They really are, and perhaps that’s why they’re my favorite. I don’t generally make bags, but I have been known to make jewelry to go along with the various different clothes that I have made. Honestly, the best way to see my work is to see me, I’m generally the one wearing my things.

I love Indian fashion. I went to India with a charity I work alongside. The clothing is beautiful and I had a sari made for me. I’m a bit of a hippie so I like textiles which don’t harm the environment, having said that I do wear my Havanas when I a not at work and I’m pretty sure they are not environmentally sound. 

Really?! That’s lovely. I really do appreciate when people do incredible work in other countries. I know I might have a little bias, but I love wearing a sari. I could wear one every single day. All the same I bet your Havanas are nice and breathable, good for hot weather.

I’m doing well, how about you? That sounds exactly like the puppy life. Sometimes they can be wild, and then they drop from exhaustion. It’s adorable. I might be able to swing by and meet your new little fur baby.

Well.. sometimes after sad times, things just fall into place. I think that fate has sort of dictated things in my life recently. Everyone meet Brienne. She’s 10 weeks old and 14 pounds already.

Bonding over the love of Italian food and wine will definitely make us friends. What kind of genre do you work in? do you use all kinds of materials and ideas? I’m into Boho fashion. I love old school 1960′s clothing from Biba.

Yes indeed! I love a lot of foods, but I am definitely in need of some Italian food and wine. Well, I’m the Assistant Chair of Textile and Design. As for the type of fashion that I create, I’m a big advocate of Indian fashion and incorporating key elements of Indian fashion into other styles. I love the intricate patterns, the different cloths, it’s just beautiful to me, and I want to share it with people who wouldn’t normally look at Indian fashion. I want people to see it, find the beauty in it that I do, but use it in a way that would be exciting to everyone to wear.
