Banana Farming
Tumblr media
Banana farming is the cultivation of bananas for commercial and domestic use. The process involves planting banana plants, which are actually a type of herb, and caring for them until they produce fruit. This includes tasks such as providing the plants with adequate water and nutrients, controlling pests and diseases, and protecting the plants from wind damage. After the bananas have ripened, they are harvested and sold or consumed. Banana farming can be done on a small scale, such as in a home garden, or on a large scale, such as on a commercial farm.
Banana Farming Soil
Bananas prefer well-drained, fertile soils that are rich in organic matter. They are typically grown in areas with high rainfall or irrigation, and can tolerate a wide range of soil pH levels, from slightly acidic to slightly alkaline. However, they prefer a slightly acidic soil, with a pH between 5.5 and 7.0.
Sandy loam soils are the most suitable for banana cultivation, as they allow for good drainage and aeration, which are important for the health of the banana plants. Soils that are heavy clay or have poor drainage can lead to waterlogging, which can be detrimental to the banana plants. If the soil does not have enough organic matter, it is advisable to add well-rotted organic matter, such as compost or farm yard manure, to improve the soil structure and fertility.
It's important to also note that bananas are heavy feeders, they require regular applications of fertilizers to meet their nutritional needs.
Required Things For Banana Farming
There are several things that are required for banana farming:
Banana plants: Banana plants are propagated through rhizomes or suckers, which are shoots that grow from the base of the mother plant. These can be obtained from a local nursery or from other banana farmers.
Soil: As mentioned earlier, bananas prefer well-drained, fertile soils that are rich in organic matter. It is important to have the right soil type and pH level for banana farming.
Water: Bananas need a lot of water, especially during the fruiting stage. Irrigation systems such as drip irrigation or flood irrigation can be used to provide the plants with the necessary water.
Fertilizers: Bananas are heavy feeders and require regular applications of fertilizers to meet their nutritional needs. A balanced fertilizer that contains N-P-K and micro-nutrients is recommended for banana farming.
Pest and Disease Control: Bananas are susceptible to a variety of pests and diseases, such as banana weevils, nematodes, and Panama disease. It's important to regularly monitor the plants for signs of infestation or infection and take appropriate action to control them.
Harvesting and post-harvest handling equipment: At the time of harvesting bananas, you will require equipment such as ladder, cutting knife, and bags or crates to pack the bananas.
Labour: Banana farming requires regular labour for planting, maintaining, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
Market: It's important to have a good understanding of the market and the demand for bananas, so that you can plan your production accordingly.

Mango Farming
Tumblr media
Mango farming involves the cultivation and harvesting of the mango tree and its fruit. Mango trees can be grown in tropical and subtropical regions and require well-drained soil and consistent moisture. Proper care and management, including pruning, fertilization, and pest control, is necessary for healthy growth and fruit production. The fruits are usually harvested when they are fully ripe and have reached their characteristic colour and aroma. Mangoes can be eaten fresh or used in a variety of culinary dishes.
How to do mango farming?
Selecting a suitable site: Mango trees require well-drained soil and full sunlight. They can be grown in tropical and subtropical regions.
Obtaining healthy and disease-free plant material: Purchase young mango plants from reputable nurseries.
Preparing the land: Clear the land of weeds and debris, and test the soil to determine its pH and nutrient levels. Adjust the soil as necessary.
Planting the trees: Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the roots of the plant. Plant the tree at the same depth it was growing in the container. Backfill the hole with soil and press down firmly. Water the tree well.
Caring for young trees: Water the tree frequently, and provide it with a balanced fertilizer. Prune the tree to shape it and remove any dead or diseased wood.
Irrigation: Provide irrigation to the young trees in dry seasons to help them establish. Once the trees are established, they require less water.
Fertilization: Mango trees require regular fertilization with a balanced fertilizer.
Pest and disease control: Keep an eye out for pests and diseases that may affect the tree's growth. Address any issues promptly.
Harvesting: Wait until the mangoes are ripe and have reached their characteristic color and aroma before harvesting.
Note: Mango farming is a long-term investment and it takes around 3-5 years for a mango tree to start bearing fruit.

Mango Farming, Mango Cultivation Guide
Tumblr media
Today, we learn a step-by-step guide of techniques, ideas and tips. We can also cover the cultivation methods of mango fruit.
Mango farming is the major fruit farming in India and is considered as the king of fruits. Apart from the delicious taste, wonderful taste and attractive aroma, it is rich in Vitamin A and C. The tree is hardy in nature and its maintenance cost is relatively low.
Mango fruit is used at all stages of its development, both in its unripe and ripe stages. Raw fruits are used to make chutneys, pickles and juices. Apart from sweets, ripe fruits are also used to prepare many products like squash, syrup, nectar, jam and jelly. Mango seeds also contain 8-10 percent good quality fat which can be used as a substitute for coal in soaps and confectionery.
Mango accounts for 22% of the total fruit area under 1.2 million hectares with a total production of 11 million tonnes. Bihar, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu have the highest area under mango in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and about 25% of the total area.
Fresh mangoes and mango pulp are important agricultural exports from India. India's main destinations for mangoes are the United States and other countries in the Middle East, with limited quantities being sent to the European market. Although India is the largest producer of mangoes, accounting for about 60% of world production, exports of the fresh fruit are limited to the Alphonso and Dashehari varieties. India's share in the world mango market is about 15 percent. Mango accounts for 40 percent of the total fruit exports from the country. There is good potential to increase the area and productivity of mangoes in the country.
Mango can be propagated by seeds or vegetatively. Plants are generally propagated vegetatively using several techniques such as veneer grafting, inarching and epicotyl grafting etc.
The best planting season for Mango trees
Sowing is generally done during the months of July-August in rainfed areas and February-March in irrigated areas. In case of high rainfall areas, sowing is done towards the end of the rainy season.
