Driving on the left side goes back to Medieval England where Knights would ride their horses on the left side of the road so if they encountered an enemy their sword hand would be on the correct side.
Hey, we're back! We're sorry we were absent for a lot of 2023. If you relied on us for little slices of escapism we're especially sorry.
This is a mix of Australia Day on the 26th and National Bird Day on the 5th. I'm told England, while on holiday in Australia, is a huge fan of waking up and listening to Australia's birds.
The Swedes came up with the expression first and I assume the Danes thought that sounded really scary and decided to name the most stressful time of day after it.
In all of Scandinavia twilight is seen as the most magical time of day. That's why Scandinavian horror and fantasy is sometimes called Scandinavian Twilight. It's not named after the Twilight books/movies but rather Scandinavian folklore.
I’m very fascinated by the companion characters, Kelvin and Virginia, from Sons of The Forest. The developers have said they consciously gave them loyal dog and feral cat energy but honestly, the fandom noticed way before they ever said it.
I could write a very long post about how impressed I am by the developers’ ability to make people want to protect an adult ass man and run around screaming in the forest when they lose him. All they had to do was have the male player character gently touch Kelvin’s face and tentatively inspect his busted eardrums followed by slowly helping him regain focus back to reality and heavily imply that Kelvin suffered brain damage in the helicopter crash and people were fucking ready to die for him.
And I love that even in early access Kelvin and Virginia respond to each other and there’s a developing friendship implied. They start out being afraid of each other, but if you manage to befriend Virginia and she joins your team Kelvin will still act spooked. Eventually he starts to relax around her and because he can no longer fight he’ll hide behind her when enemies approach. Should Kelvin die Virginia will cry and mournfully touch his corpse.
The developers have said they’ll add more lore and interactions in the future and I would like to see more stuff for Virginia and Kelvin. Just watching Kelvin holding the boombox (that he can’t hear but most likely feel) while Virginia rocks out to the music is adorable.
