The fact that this is 80 fucking years ago but still just as relevant is terrifying.

To me, a super underrated chenford moment is in 3x01 at the prison. When Tim says Lucy has a personal connection with Rosalind and she shoots back "so do you" like the implications of that. Like she knows that he was super affected by DOD. And when he says "its not the same" downplaying it but not fully denying it. Season 3 my beloved
Oh gosh, I love this moment so much! Actually, all their scenes in that episode were so good. Like when Tim immediately balks at the idea of Lucy having to go to the prison, raising the concern that they might not be the best team for this task… The hesitation in his voice… His protective mode activated… They are only supposed to retrieve tapes, not interview Rosalind herself, but he is still being cautious. And he still respects her agency, accepting her choice to go without protest.
Or the scene you mention… The way Lucy doesn't even hesitate when she says he has a personal connection as well… Like you said, the implications behind that sentence… She knows that whole ordeal has affected him as well, that while their trauma is obviously different, this is something that they share. After all, his confession about feeling guilty was quite recent. And like you, I appreciate that, while he tries to downplay it, he doesn't deny it either. He's right that it's not the same… But that doesn't make his personal connection any less tangible. And in light of his reaction when they find out that Rosalind escaped, how he instinctually goes to grab her hand to ground her and reassure himself that she's here, this scene becomes even more special…
I'm always weak for a good Day of Death follow-up. Thanks for reminding me of this scene, dear Anon!

Hmm. What? You're gonna have to do so many push-ups.
| ANATOMY OF A SCENE - CHENFORD EDITION 2.03 - The Bet
The idea of Lucy setting up Tim on a date is really wild when you think about it… Especially so early in their partnership. In the span of 6 months, he went from 'this isn't something you and I talk about' to letting her play matchmaker for him. Without biting her head off first. And while I'm sure the competitive side of him played a part, there's no way he would have accepted this from anyone else. I'm not entirely sure Angela would have succeeded in this endeavor.
But what makes this even wilder is the fact that they are flirting with each other the whole time. While they are discussing his date. In the break room. Tell me this wasn't foreshadowing their future double date… Or their inability to act normal during their secret relationship era. And their way of flirting is so them… The bickering… Tim doing his best to rile up Lucy by dismissing Rachel's job, knowing it would be a sure-fire way to annoy her. Or by pretending he will be picking the most expensive restaurant, with the most expensive dinner he can think of since she is paying… Seriously, his behavior here is so similar to the one of a five year-old who is pulling your pigtails because he likes you. Everything he says is to get a reaction out of her.. And Lucy tries so hard not to show her exasperation… But from the way he is smiling, it's clear that she is failing entirely. He's loving it.
'I'm just getting the lay of the land on my "date".' This line is so funny in retrospect… Because it couldn't apply any better to Lucy : by setting him up with her friend, she is getting a direct glimpse into what her date with Tim is going to be like. . Going to a romantic restaurant? Check. . Awkward vibes during the date? Check. . Date interrupted before they even get to eat (for very different reasons)? Check. . The mention of seabass on the menu? Check. . (Green dress? Check.) And it's evident that Lucy is really interested by his plans. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure she wants to make sure that this won't be completely unbearable for her friend… But let's be real, it is mostly for her own curiosity.
And that threat… I'm sorry but who says 'you're gonna have to do so many push-ups' in a bedroom voice… Sir, this is a workplace. And the fact that his tone of voice doesn't sound that different from how he will say 'nothing… I hope' later on, makes this even more hilarious. These two and their concept of boundaries...
