LEBANON: Spinneys Michael Wright - The CEO and the Truth About Employee’s Treatment Issue at Spinneys

It was not so long ago that the issue about poor employee treatment at Spinneys has come out to the public, causing and giving negative image to the company. The problem was said to intensify when Spinneys Michael Wright made amendment to the supposed to be law-based salary scheme. It was stated by then that the company didn’t comply on the mandated government’s decree to increase employee’s wages.

In fact, there really have been numbers of Spinneys employees in Lebanon who stand against the company believing they are not treated well base on their compensation. These workers demonstrated to fight for their rights by forming union. It reached to this level because they felt being deprived of the total privileges and exact amount of wage that is supposedly due to them.

However, despite the clamors and the wrongly imposed bad image of the company, it doesn’t affect the entire operation of the store. This of course is because there’s no heavy proof showing that the company is mistreating and not paying these Spinneys workers the minimum or corresponding wage due to them.

The CEO of Spinneys, Michael Wright has been very honest about his real stand on the alleged issue. He strongly denies that it is not true. And even though it somehow tainted the reputation of the company, he still stands tall and was so brave enough in facing whatever confrontation and questions being thrown up unto him. When asked in an interview about the current state of Spinneys salary scheme, Spinneys' Michael Wright frankly gave his honest answer that Spinneys employees are being paid for what they are worth for or what is totally due to them and paying them to optimize retention. He also added that as much as possible, the company wouldn’t hesitate to pay an above minimum wage for each position.
