On the most basic level, The Torah and the Mitzvahs are the Creators blueprint for creation. They detail the exact manner in which Hashem means life to be lived, so that its purpose in creation should be fulfilled. But the life of Torah and Mitzvahs, for a human being to live his life in every aspect in it of accordance with a blueprint of Torah and Mitzvahs is extremely difficult. And the question comes to mind, Is it a feasible goal? Can the ordinary man realistically be expected to conduct the every act of his life, every word, every activity, every thought of his life should be in accordance with the Torah’s most demanding directives. The Torah itself is quite clear on the matter. Moses explains the capability is not in heaven, or across the sea, but exceedingly near in your mouth and your heart to perform it. The Torah and Mitzvahs, are not across the sea, are not in heaven but exceedingly near to us, relevant and intimately close to our lives. The Torah’s true existence is not an abstract ideal, not a lofty endeavor, not an unrealistic mission, not a point of reference to stride forward, rather it’s something practical and an attainable goal.

"Where are you?" was merely a conversation opener on the part of Hashem who did not wish to unnerve Adam by immediately confronting him with his wrong doing. where are you is Hashem’s perpetual call to every human being living on the face of the earth. Where are you in this world? what have you accomplished. you have been granted a certain number of days, hours, minutes, faculties, resources, in which to fulfill your mission in life. where are you? what have you attained? this is a question Hashem put to every human being through out their entire life. are you fulfilling the purpose of your souls decent on earth?

The Tanya is not for the extraordinary man but the ordinary man. It is not for the man who is holy, G-dly, spiritual and saintly. Who eradicated from himself every iota of evil, who metomorphasized his entire identity and character. But rather [it is] for he who possesses duality in his life, he who experiences deep conflict in his psyche through a battle between egotistical identity and transcendental identity. It is he, the Tanya attempts to address, to guide and direct in his trials and tribulations, in his ups and downs, times of ecstasy and times of depression to allow him to keep his head high above the water to fulfill his destiny on earth. It is compiled form sacred books and from teachers of heavenly saintliness who’s souls are in Eden.
