If someone asked you to explain a period, do you think you could? When we partnered with @bodyformuk to deliver period poverty classes across the UK & help young people with emotional wellbeing around this topic, we ended up revamping most of the workshop content to go back to basics as we discovered most young people do not know about menstruation. One student aged 15 was unaware that missing a period is a strong indicator of being pregnant, while another (also 15) believed a period to be when the uterus is lost each month. While it maybe seems funny off the cuff, this lack of education makes it harder for young people to access the support & understanding they need when their bodies change. So... they end up not saying anything at all. Many miss lessons in fear of being teased & because of leaking while using socks instead of hygiene products, which means falling behind on school. Through no fault of their own, this silence perpetuates periods being taboo & a topic that is still used to mock or shame people. Knowing about menstruation empowers young people to navigate their changing bodies & feel confident to seek advice if and when need. By being more open & less squeamish, we CAN fight the stigma to help teens grow up embracing their bodies & not feeling ashamed of literally the most natural thing in the world. https://www.instagram.com/p/B8JfM7MAIJb/?igshid=j8vnd8go1v05

Controversial opinion perhaps in a world where ‘talk to someone’ is the most common advice for opening up! But finding the RIGHT someone is important too; for the person who needs a confidante & for the confidante themselves! If the confidante is having their own whirlwind of a mental health storm, they may not be as emotionally available as hoped & unable to give support at the drop of a hat. This isn’t to say they won’t ever be, just in that minute/day/week they may be tied-up in their own issues. In a digital world we forget the people on the other side of WhatsApp are juggling their own life as they’re so accessible at the tap of a few buttons. If we approach friends or family over text in the same way we would in real life at school or work by asking if they have a minute to chat, it might prove helpful for ALL involved ~ removing the whole dynamic of expectations or disappointment if they can’t respond in that very second. This just popped up on a wellness app we’re trialling at the mo, thought it might be helpful to share. There’s so much advice to ‘be present’ or ‘live in the moment’ that we seem to have demonised looking ahead. Yet avoiding thoughts of the future can have the opposite affect we hope for & impact anxiety if we try to ignore it rather than embrace it. So, whatever that change that’s been lurking in the back of your mind ~ whether seeking therapy, thinking about what to study in higher education, what career move to make, taking up a new activity, cutting ties with a toxic relationship, quitting a negative habit, initiating a relationship with someone who inspires you ~ take that leap of faith, coz y’never know, your future self might just thank you one day 🌟 https://www.instagram.com/p/B7ntDFnAWhw/?igshid=fkwytp486ix

Beauty! A little word with big expectations. What does it even mean anyway... what is beautiful to one person is not to the other & vice versa. Is it really tied up in our eyebrows, the size of our nose, being hairless, or how our clothes hang on us? Or is it really what’s on the inside? Or both? When we started to try & define it we released we didn’t really know! Episode 2 of our @dove vlog series (link in bio) discovers how beauty ideals shift throughout our lives & the impact this can have on self-esteem. We’d love to hear what you think of the vid & what beauty means to you too! https://www.instagram.com/p/B7k-_WdgQzB/?igshid=1xlcxwc2ye97

Not sure this needs a caption?! It reminds us of one of our fave mantras about 'holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die'. People aren't mind-readers. They can't see or hear or feel the pain we carry inside so will unlikely respond in the ways we expect them to. Sure, it's not always as easy as confronting someone, or on the flip side, letting it go BUT getting into good habits & asking yourself if holding on is necessary can release the tension that festers inside. If it IS necessary, then find ways to talk it out, hug it out, chuck it out, or diary it out. Just get it out! Prolonged bouts of anger take their toll on the body both mentally & physically so stress management is not just good for the mind but immune system too. Amazing way to illustrate how people always project their inner world outwards! And the way people behave is how they feel about themselves. We’re big believers that letting hate go isn’t a favour to whoever has wronged you or annoyed you, but a gift to YOURSELF for decreasing anxiety & increasing wellbeing 💛 https://www.instagram.com/p/B7VrtStgN-P/?igshid=a3gx7t66xu3r

Self-esteem. It’s a word that gets bandied around a lot but what does it even mean?! We’ve always believed it’s about celebrating who you are rather than apologising for who you are. It’s about being your most authentic self. It’s about believing in yourself but also having the awareness you may not always be right & being open to learning. That’s our definition, anyways! And we wanted to hear what other people think. So we teamed up with @dove for a vlog series to start asking real people what their version of self-esteem is. Episode 1 is out NOW (link in bio) & explores social media pressures & unrealistic perceptions of beauty. We’d love to hear what you think of the vid & what self-esteem means to you too! https://www.instagram.com/p/B7S_Ip4AUar/?igshid=1pmvf6itza8zl

Today’s been an interesting one seeing how people are divided over Meghan & Harry’s decision to essentially quit the Royal Family. No one knows what goes on behind closed doors! And whatever their reasons, they’re likely just doing what feels the most authentic to them and their wellbeing. So, here’s a little reminder that NO ONE has all the answers! And not to be so hard on yourself when you feel directionless. All we can do is take 1 day at a time, even 1 hour at a time, and life has a funny way of falling into place when we stay present rather than obsessing about the past or finding ourselves frazzled about the future. 1 week into 2020! How’s things? The buzz of new year has fizzled with the fireworks & while excitement got us thru the holidays now it’s back to reality with a bump so might be time to take a breath & figure out which of these needs require a little focus. For us, it’s definitely second one in on the left ~ PATIENCE. When it comes to mental health education we want everyone to have the same opportunities for prevention and cure, there’s still a long way to go but we’re chipping away as best we can to change the narrative 💪🏼💪🏾 Ask your students, mates or colleagues too & maybe together you can find solutions to achieve what need today! https://www.instagram.com/p/B7DdT4fAStO/?igshid=1h3g6zxb5vhl7

Hey 👋🏻👋🏾 We’ve been in hibernation over Xmas hols & are back in the game! It’s right about now that new year resolutions start going wobbly, despite the fact everyone else seems to be sticking to theirs, and the adrenaline of new year has somewhat fizzled away... It’s also back to school or work, the weather is cold and dark, and having to set an alarm after days of lie-ins is tough! So we thought we’d send a friendly reminder coz this quote isn’t just about being kind to others but also being kind to yourself 💜 Take it easy on yourself if achieving what you want this year takes a little longer than the first week of Jan... https://www.instagram.com/p/B6_OTZNgh9b/?igshid=136u1a7xslgki
