Wriothesley — and his sudden favoritism
cw: spoilers for wriothesley's story quest, alludes to nsfw but no actual nsfw, lets pretend the Beret Society lounge is somewhere more hidden
an: im so tired and sleepy from uni but my wriothesley brainrot surpasses all human limitations
Tumblr media
Wriothesley doesn't do favorites.
You've been aware of that for as long as you've stayed in the Fortress of Meropide. The Duke is just. He treats everyone equally, whether it be guards or prisoners. He'd never be on you as long as you get your job done and stay out of trouble.
That's why you didn't buy his words as you stood by his side, Dougier looking at you with a subtle threatening glare, one that shook you to your core unbeknownst to the Duke.
"You've been spending much time with them, Your Grace," Dougier spoke, his tone friendly, and so was the smile on his face, a demeanor that is foreign to you. "I just can't help but worry. After all, she's part of my precious society."
His words were laced with practiced concern, but you knew it was a thinly-veiled threat. Don't you dare blabber to His Grace.
"No need to worry," Wriothesley reassured with a calm tone and a smile, looking over at you, not bothering to hide the suggestive tone of his voice.
"They've just become my favorite, that's all."
Bullshit.
You can see the strained smile on Dougier's face as he said that, and you were powerless against these authoritative figures. One slip-up and you'll be censured by Dougier, and who knows what His Grace would do if he's the one you pissed off?
It was evident to you and Doougier what Wriothesley wanted from you, but neither you nor Dougier could ever hope to go against the Duke. Dougier isn't quite ready for that just yet.
"You don't mind, do you?" Wriothesley added, not even bothering to hide his threatening tone, and Dougier had no choice but to shake his head no.
"Good." Wriothesley seemed pleased with that, turning to face you with a smile on his face, his fingers brushing against your arm, tapping a pattern against your skin before whispering an "I'll see you around," loud enough for Dougier to hear, leaning back and his eyes meeting yours as if waiting for your response.
You only stare back at him, unsure of what to think about the sudden turn of events, and sensing that he wouldn't get a response, the Duke then turns to leave.
Ever since that day, much to Dougier's annoyance, he can no longer keep you in the abandoned zone that he has transformed into his base. Not with the Duke popping up randomly in the Beret Society lounge to ask for you every time.
And so, whenever Wriothesley graced your presence, his focus seemed to be effortlessly drawn toward you, his intentions leaving no room for subtlety even in the company of the other members—actors that Dougier planted to keep up the facade of the Society.
While you didn't necessarily feel uncomfortable, a twinge of curiosity tugged at the corners of your mind; so many questions often danced in your thoughts, like a hidden undercurrent beneath calm waters weaving its way through your mind as you pondered the enigma that is the Administrator of the Fortress of Meropide.
Wriothesley doesn't do favorites.
Wriothesley wouldn't just randomly start flirting with one of the inmates, knowing full well the power imbalance between them.
Surely, he doesn't want to get in your pants that badly?
This went on for a few days, Wriothesley would pop up, and you'd be there with some random member Dougier likely had tasked to ensure you wouldn't be spilling the beans to the Duke.
Until one day, surprisingly, there wasn't anyone else.
Still, the camera behind you was more than enough to keep you glued to the couch as Wriothesley enters.
The lounge lay silent, its once bustling atmosphere now empty, save for Wriothesley and yourself. His piercing gaze sweeps across the room, a mix of curiosity and anticipation filling the air.
"No one else today?" he muses, his voice laced with a hint of intrigue.
"No, no one else," you confirm, your voice steady despite the fluttering in your chest. You clear your throat, feeling the weight of the Duke's undivided attention fixed upon you.
"Finally, our lucky day, huh?"
His words hang in the air, and before you can even respond, Wriothesley seizes the opportunity without hesitation.
In one swift motion, he lunges towards you, catching you off guard. Your body is pressed against the soft cushions of the couch while he looms above you, his presence consuming every inch of your being. His arms encircle you, caging you in a position that renders you breathless as you look up at him in surprise.
"I've seen the way you look at me," Wriothesley purred, his voice a seductive melody sending shivers down your spine. The raw desire in his tone leaves no room for doubt, and you find yourself rendered speechless, your widened eyes locked with his.
As he starts to lean closer, a sharp intake of breath escapes your lips, swallowing thickly, your heart threatening to pound out of your chest. The gentle caress of his lips against the delicate curve of your ear sends a tingling sensation coursing through your body, awakening every nerve. His voice, a velvet whisper, dances across your senses, but his words make your eyes snap open, pulling you out of your fantasy.
"Does it have a microphone?" He asks, his question delivered with a hushed tone that matches the closeness of his presence. The warmth of his breath grazes against your skin, leaving a trail of anticipation in its wake. Sensing your confusion at his question, he then added.
"The camera." He whispers, and you are even more surprised he was aware of it. "Does it have a microphone?"
"No... no, it doesn't." You whisper back,
"Can it see us right now?" He asks, voice much louder this time,
"Not fully, no." You respond, "Only you hunched over me, probably."
"Is he watching right now?"
"Y-Your Grace... I..."
"Dougier." Wriothesley's tone is more firm, "Is he watching right now?"
"He always is,"
A subtle shift in his position brings his nose tantalizingly close to the delicate expanse of your neck. His warm breath creates a delicate dance against your skin, refraining from making direct contact.
"Is this okay?" he murmurs against your skin, his voice laced with a hint of concern. The question hangs in the air, causing you to inhale sharply, the sensation of his warm breath against your neck sending a shiver down your spine.
"Your Grace.... I don't understand..."
"I apologize for my behavior the past week." Wriothesley's tone is genuine as he apologizes, pulling away just enough for his icy gaze to meet yours. "I couldn't think of a way to talk to you while making sure Dougier wouldn't butt in halfway through."
He pulls back even more, his thighs now straddling your hips. His hands gracefully find their way to his tie, fingers deftly tugging at the fabric as he deliberately makes a show of loosening it. The tie slips from his grasp, cascading down to the floor, as his eyes remain locked with yours.
He dives back in, his face inches away from yours, and his warm breath dances along the surface of your skin, deliberately fooling Dougier from the other end of the camera, making him think that something is going on.
"As I said, I've seen the way you look at me," He repeats that phrase once again, shifting his position on top of you.
"You're always looking at me like there's something you wish to say, but you keep hesitating. Upon further investigation, I've noticed your gaze intensifies whenever Dougier is near you, but so does the fear in your eyes."
Your breath gets caught in your throat at his words, staring at him with a mix of surprise and amazement. You've been having thoughts of blowing Dougier's cover time and time again. You frequently see the Duke walking around the Fortress, and every time you do, you have the urge to approach him and just tell him what's been going on.
But you've always had your reservations. Dougier has some of the guards in his pockets, and Wriothesley supports the Beret Society, doesn't he? What if he doesn't believe you and tells Dougier about your attempts?
Just the thought of being caught and censured is enough to keep you to yourself, mouth shut tight like an obedient dog at Dougier's heel, looking longingly at the one person who can put a stop to your suffering and that of many others.
Unbeknownst to you, with every fleeting glance you cast upon Wriothesley, his icy gaze would return yours, a silent confusion and curiosity etched upon his face.
He wondered why your eyes carry an unspoken weight of perpetual struggle, as if drowning in an unseen tide. And he felt an inexplicable pull to extend a lifeline, offer solace, and rescue from the depths in which you've found yourself in.
Which brought you to your position now.
"I tried to send you subtle signs, waiting for you to approach me.." Wriothesley trails off before chuckling and shaking his head in light amusement. You blink at his words, that fateful day flashing back in your mind. The warmth of his hand against the skin of your arm, his fingers tapping against your skin. You hadn't noticed it then, but you do now.
Three short taps. Three long taps. Three short taps.
SOS
The look of bewilderment is obvious from the way your eyes widened. He'd been planning this from the start.
"I thought of taking you to talk in my office, but Dougier might get suspicious," he adds, his body shifting once again to keep up the act of something intimate happening. "Eventually, I knew I couldn't leave you to your own anymore."
Your gaze remains locked with his, and his own looks back at you with a mix of determination and warmth, wanting to reassure you and show you his determination at the same time.
"Tell me what's going on." He whispers, but his voice isn't a command. It was soft, still firm, but more on trying to reassure you than command you to do anything.
"Tell me everything, and I'll do all I can for you."
You find yourself gazing upwards, immersed in the shadowy depths, your eyes fixated on Wriothesley's figure. From the murky abyss, a hand stretches towards you, a lifeline amidst the suffocating darkness, beckoning you to resurface and breathe freely once more.
Yet, a hesitant pause lingers. Uncertainty clings to your heart like a fragile, delicate whisper that holds you captive, urging you to pause and consider the consequences.
Wriothesley, ever perceptive, notices your hesitance. He understands, all too well, that you can't save those who do not wish to be saved. Yet, he refuses to let go. With determination, he fights against the current, reaching out desperately, unwilling to let you slip through his fingers and deeper into the abyss.
"Tell me what it is that you're terrified of.." Wriothesely urges.
"No matter what or who it is, they will no longer be able to hurt you. I swear to you, on my name and honor as the Duke."
And finally, Wriothesley watches as with a trembling hand, you reach out to grasp his, intertwining your fingers, releasing the weight that had burdened your shoulders for far too long. It is as if he had lifted the weight of the world from your very being
He ignores the way his heart flutters at the sight of relief in your gaze, the edges of your lips turning up to a genuine, relieved smile, taking a deep breath before you spoke.
"The Beret Society... Dougier... it isn't what it seems to be."
Finally, you poured your heart out to him, telling him what's been happening under his nose.

Wriothesley — the art of body language
cw: feat neuvillette, references to neuvi's story quest (sorry, i just finished it, loved it very much) other than that nothing rlly, just fluff
an: i cant believe i havent written anything for wrio yet??? thats unacceptable, considering i main him (and jing yuan too, all because ono daisuke voices them... jotaro brainrot goes crazy)
Tumblr media
It had come to Iudex Neuvillette's attention that there is still much he needs to learn about the enigma that are humans. Following his recent revelations as to his role in Fontaine and relationship with its citizens, he thought it'd be nice if he gets to know them better.
It hadn't escaped his knowledge that sometimes, things would fly over his head. Things said in jest, he ends up taking seriously before realizing at a later time that it was in good humor.
Sometimes, he doesn't realize that his silence had ended up causing the other party feel awkward, and even then, he doesn't know what to do or talk about when they do.
And so, he started by studying the little things. Their expressions, their body language—It had first came up in a conversation with the head nurse of the Fortress of Meropide, Sigewinne.
During one of her rare vacations where she visits the overworld and checks on the Chief Justice in worry that he may be overworking himself again.
Sigewinne talks about the things she has learned from observing the expressions from the workers in the Fortress, and with her observant gaze, she notices just how interested the Chief Justice seems even if from an outsider's point of view, he just looks like he's sporting the same, neutral expression.
At that, Sigewinne brought it upon herself to share the things that she has learned, but he can see the slight furrow on Neuvillette's brow, his fingers on his chin, deep in thought as he tries to picture out the expressions that she's describing.
Thinking to herself, the head nurse thinks of someone that she can describe well enough but also someone that Neuvillette knows fairly well to help him picture out what she's saying—and one person easily comes to mind.
"Take His Grace, for example." Sigewinne mentions, and the Iudex looks up with his eyes widening the slightest bit.
"Wriothesley?" He echoes.
"Yeah!" The melusine chirps happily, smiling widely at Neuvillette.
"If you show him that one human you always send from the Gardes, you can notice a few things from his body language that you wouldn't notice if you're not looking closely."
Which leads to the mentioned Duke now sitting in Neuvillette's office in Palais Mermonia, a tea cup in hand. After all, if Neuvillette were to learn, it'd be better if he sees it for himself, no?
Wriothesley was in the middle of his sentence when a knock reverberates in the room, coming from the door to the entrance to the office. Still holding onto his teacup, the Duke glances at the door, before looking back at the man before him, not surprised by the knock at the very least, as if he had been expecting it.
"Monsieur," Wriothesley spoke in his usual polite tone towards the Chief Justice, "Are we expecting someone else?"
His icy gaze are calculating as they meet Neuvillette's gaze, the Iudex shaking his head, sighing as he looks back to meet the man's calculating gaze.
"Pardon me, it's just some business. It'll be quick." Neuvillette apologizes politely, to which Wriothesley nods and shrugs, taking a sip from his tea cup. Taking that as his 'go ahead' signal, the judge turns his head to his office door and spoke.
"Please, come in."
Neuvillette was quick to glance at Wriothesley from the corner of his eyes as the door opens. And as you came into view, he notices the way the Duke's eyes widened slightly in surprise, quietly choking on his tea but managing to gather himself again in a split second.
"Chief Justice." You spoke in a formal, polite tone, eyes glued to the man who nods in return, before you eventually noticed the other person in the room.
Again, Neuvillette observes Wriothesley.
"Your Grace," You also greet the Chief Justice's guest politely.
True to Sigewinne's words, The Lord Incognito sat with his back a little straighter, his chest puffing out as he oh so gently puts his tea cup down on its saucer, his voice laced with a tad bit of warmth as he spoke your name in greeting.
"Is it a bad time?" You asked, eyes glancing over the tea cups laid on the table between the two men, "I'm sorry for interrupting your meeting."
But before Neuvillette could reassure you that you weren't at fault, and that it was all his for having called for you, Wriothesley was quick to respond.
"Nonsense," Wriothesley didn't even hesitate to reassure you that he doesn't mind, a small genuine smile gracing his lips. "We're just sharing some words over tea, would you like a cup?"
"Thank you, Your Grace. But I couldn't possibly." You respond as you take steps closer, closing the door behind you as you fully enter the office.
"I insist." Wriothesley hums, already reaching out for a third tea cup that has been conveniently brought out by Neuvillette despite the fact that there were only two of them.
You raise your hand, about to protest but was cut off by the Chief Justice, your boss himself.
"You're no strangers to each other, please do share a cup," Neuvillette spoke as he looked at you with a nod before standing up from his seat. "Excuse me while I look for the file that our latest convict needs—I seem to have mixed it with other files."
An obvious lie. The Chief Justice is a neat person, everything has a place and everything is in their rightful place, but neither of them questioned it as Neuvillette offers his seat to you before moving over towards his desk where the paperworks to process the latest criminal lay.
He took this opportunity to study the scene before him, as he pretends to shuffle papers here and there.
Diluted pupils. Eye contact. Mirroring your actions. A smile never leaving his face. Leaning on the table. And.... uh huh. That's the third time Wriothesley tried to fix his hair in the past five minutes.
Neuvillette blinks as he observes the way the Duke handles himself around your presence, and he is sure that if Wriothesley had a tail, it'd be wagging happily right about now.
Eventually, the Iudex returned to rejoin your small party. A small smile was plastered on both your and the Duke's faces as you engaged in your own little world, both pairs of eyes landing on him as he penetrated your little bubble.
"I've found it," He spoke in his usual neutral tone, and you gave him a nod.
The ever gentleman that he is, Neuvillette thought nothing of it as his hands moved with sophisticated grace, pulling your chair out for you and offering you his hand to help you stand. He was just being polite. And being used to his actions, you didn't hesitate to take his hand as you stood. But...
Ah.
Neuvillete can't help but notice Wriothesley's gaze fixated on your hand in his grasp, the smile on his face gone, just his pale, icy gaze staring a hole into the Chief Justice's fingers around your hand.
Tense. On guard. Almost reminiscent of a guard dog meeting a stranger and gauging whether they are a threat or not.
Interesting.
The man let go of your hand to give you the paperwork you had come for, giving you another nod, your gazes now locked with each other's.
"Here you go,"
"Thank you, Monseiur."
You receive the files, opening your mouth to bid your farewell to both men in the room when the sound of the chair sliding against the floor sounded, and both your attention snapped towards Wriothesley who was letting out a loud sigh.
"Ah, would you look at the time?" Wriothesley suddenly announces loudly, as if making sure both of their attentions are on him. "It's getting late."
Neuvillette's head subtly tilts to the side in curiosity at Wriothesley's sudden actions. Trying to figure out what has the man so tense, quietly thinking to himself.
Is this what they call envy? No, envy isn't precisely the correct term...
Ah. Jealousy. That's the term.
"I should get going. Thank you for this afternoon, Monsieur Neuvillette." The Duke spoke, approaching the both of you, snapping the said man out of his thoughts, who turned to face him.
"The pleasure was all mine. I'm grateful for your time as well," The Chief Justice responds,
"I'll be on my way as well," You spoke your farewells to your boss, and Neuvillette watched as Wriothesley turned to face you this time, speaking your name in a soft tone.
"You'll be escorting an inmate to the Fortress, no?" Wriothesley spoke with a slight hint of amusement in his voice, his eyes on you as you nodded to confirm his questions.
"I am, but I'd have to pick them up first." You respond as you turn to walk towards the exit, Wriothesley hot on your heels like a puppy happily following its owner
"I'll go with you, then."
"That might not be a good idea, Your Grace. They might get intimidated."
"Well, they'll just have to deal with it, won't they? They'll be seeing more of me in Fortress of Meropide; they should get used to it."
Neuvillette watched your exchange, the Duke opening the door for you, closing it behind him, and your voices became muffled. The Hydro Sovereign stands in place, placing a hand on his chin as he thinks.
"And what kind of emotion does Wriothesley portray when around them?" Neuvillette had asked Sigewinne after she happily detailed every minuscule movement that Wriothesley does consciously and unconsciously in your presence.
"That is what humans refer to as romantic love." Sigewinne beams up happily at him, and he nods, making sure to make an internal note of that.
"So that was love." Neuvillette nods to himself, eyes still glued to the door where you and Wriothesley exited. Funnily enough, Wriothesley wasn't the only one he ended up observing.
From his observations, he can quickly tell that you had the same body language as the Duke throughout your entire conversation, a stark contrast to your more rigid and mechanical body language when speaking to him.
That day, oh so casually, the Chief Justice confirmed and gave his judgment on both of you based on the observed facts.
"They're in love with each other." Neuvillette concluded.
"And neither of them know."

Jotaro Kujo — kakyoin's amusement
cw: nothing rlly, jotaro kujo is bad at feelings tag
an: inspired by that tiktok audio of when he sees me lol
Tumblr media
Always being on the move with barely any breaks and with enemies at every turn has left Kakyoin with little to no entertainment. Of course, he doesn't mind, even if he's already starting to miss his NES.
Fortunately for the red-head teenager, it seems that the Gods have heard his prayers and have blessed him with a new source of entertainment, exclusive front-row seats that only he is the audience of, said entertainment being the hidden feelings between you and Jotaro.
Well, it's not really hidden—you're both aware of your feelings, just not each other's. And being the only other teenager left, the two of you ran to Kakyoin to rant about your feelings.
And just the admissions alone was already absolutely amusing.
You were the first to admit your feelings.
It was still early on the journey, and Kakyoin was tasked to retrieve tickets with Jotaro, but he found that the teen had already gone on without him. Shrugging it off, Kakyoin opted to enjoy his stay and make the most of the hotel amenities instead.
He found himself in the pool area, and much to his surprise, he caught you in one of the beach chairs on the poolside. Feeling his eyes on you, you wave him over, and he approaches you to sit on the beach chair adjacent to yours.
It was quiet, and Kakyoin racked his brain for anything to say. Eventually, he opens up the conversation with one of the obscure facts he knows off the top of his head.
Thankfully, you responded in kind, and the conversation flowed easily from there. Your conversation bounced from one thing to another before eventually, the both of you settled in comfortable silence while laying back on your respective beach chairs.
It was a bit sudden for Kakyoin, but he'd be lying if he said he was surprised when you suddenly admitted it.
"I think I like him...." You spoke, suddenly breaking the silence between you and the red-headed teen. Kakyoin glances at you, and he can see you feeling a bit embarrassed to say it out loud.
"Hm..." Kakyoin hums in response before adding with a noticeable teasing lilt in his voice. "Who? Polnareff?"
"Yes, of course. Because I want a grown man." You respond sarcastically, rolling your eyes as you look at him, watching his lips turn up to an amused smirk. "I'm talking about Mr. Joestar, obviously."
"Right, my mistake." Kakyoin matched your energy, the both of you sharing a chuckle, before he turns to look at you, meeting your gaze.
"So, Jotaro, huh?"
Kakyoin's smirk widens at the sudden smitten look on your face just from the mention of the name, and he's 99% positive that you don't even realize it.
"Yeah..." You sigh, one that reminds him of a hopeless romantic protagonist of romcoms he's seen his parents watch before. "I mean, can you blame me? Going through all these troubles just for his mom? How he jumped to save that kid without hesitation? And that face of his isn't helping."
"Honestly? I can't say I'm surprised." Kakyoin responds to your small rant, his voice soft and comforting. He sees your lips part, looking at him in slight panic, and he cuts you off before you can even speak.
"Don't worry, your secret is safe with me."
"Thanks, Kakyoin."
"Mhm. Thank you for trusting me with this."
On the other hand, it took Jotaro quite a while before he admitted it—both to himself and to his friend.
After a long day of fighting the menace that was Steely Dan and a long day of traveling, they ended up in another hotel. As usual, Jotaro and Kakyoin ended up sharing a room, and you ended up getting separated from them with your very own room.
It was a really long day for both teenagers; both were drained and worn out, with Kakyoin mentally exhausted from exerting the effort to manifest his stand in a much smaller form and Jotaro both mentally and physically drained after all the beating he took earlier in the day.
"I should've beaten him up more." Jotaro groans from his bed, making Kakyoin turn to look at him, a brow raised.
"Steely Dan? You ended up hating him that much?" Kakyoin responds before leaning on his elbows, still lying on the bed. "How bad are the things he did to you when we left you with him?"
"That's not the issue. I've already made him pay for what he did to me." Jotaro responds, before shooting up from his bed, removing his hat, and placing it on the shared nightstand between their beds, running a hand through his hair.
"But...." Jotaro trails off, and Kakyoin sits up on his bed as well, raising his brow even more.
Jotaro grumbled something under his breath, and Kakyoin could swear he heard your name amongst the words the other teen grumbled.
Kakyoin repeats your name, and Jotaro faces Kakyoin, his gaze hardened.
"What about them?" Kakyoin asks curiously.
"I can't easily forgive him for the shit he did to them."
Kakyoin is quite surprised by his words and how genuine they sound. His gaze darts to his friend's face, his scowl deeper than usual, a vein almost popping on his temple. Jotaro's exhaustion must be making him slip his composure, his emotions taking hold of his exhausted mind.
"What did he do?"
"He grabbed them. Right. in front. of. me." Jotaro scowls, his jaw clenched tightly. "Grabbed onto their arm so tightly like they were his."
Kakyoin blinks at that, his eyes widening slightly. No.. that expression on Jotaro's face.. it wasn't annoyance. Not completely...
"Held their chin to make them look at him. His face was so damn close to theirs, I would've punched him right then and there if it wasn't for the old man."
Definitely not annoyance. It's jealousy.
"I could feel Star Platinum just about ready to make him regret being born, and I had to actively hold him back." Jotaro finishes his mini-rant with a deep, annoyed sigh, his eyes darting over to look at Kakyoin.
It was Jotaro's turn to look confused at the amused grin on Kakyoin's face, a knowing look in his lavender gaze, making Jotaro's brows scrunch in confusion as he looks at his friend.
"The hell are you smiling about?" Jotaro asks bluntly with a deep scowl, "Didn't you hear a thing I just said?"
"I think you're the one who didn't hear what you just said, Jotaro." Kakyoin responds amusedly, his grin not faltering even under the scrutinizing gaze of Jotaro Kujo.
"What are you blabbering about?"
"Think back to your words, Jotaro. You're not stupid."
Jotaro paused for a while, running a hand through his already messy hair at his friend's cryptic behavior. He was already exhausted and pissed off; he didn't need any more of Kakyoin's bullshit—still, curiously, Jotaro did as he was asked.
Kakyoin's amused smile slowly widens along with Jotaro's eyes slowly widening in realization as he plays his own words back in his mind. His surprised gaze turned to look at Kakyoin.
"Are you suggesting....?" Jotaro trails off with a hiss. "Fuck off."
"I'm not even saying anything."
"Don't think about it. I'd rather eat my socks."
"Oh?"
"Don't look at me like—" Jotaro sighs. "It's not like that,"
"But it is," Kakyoin insists with a raised brow and a smirk, "Isn't it?"
Jotaro didn't even respond this time, looking away from his friend's teasing gaze as his own landed on his bed sheets. Kakyoin could see the dust of pink on the other teen's cheeks the more he remained silent, and that was already enough of a response to him.
"God fucking damnit." Jotaro curses under his breath at the realization, letting out a deep sigh as he glares at his sheets. Kakyoin remained silent as he let Jotaro think about his newfound feelings.
Eventually, Jotaro turns his head to look at Kakyoin, the usual calm, cold, neutral look on his face as his ocean gaze stares through his lavender ones.
"Turn away for a bit." Was all Jotaro said. Confused, Kakyoin did as he was told, turning his back to Jotaro and looking at the wall beside his bed.
Suddenly, Kakyoin jumps slightly in surprise.
Jotaro is screaming.
It's muffled, probably by his pillows and his sheets, and it probably wasn't loud enough to be heard outside their room, but loud enough to surprise Kakyoin.
It didn't take long before he heard a deep breath and then silence.
"Good night," Jotaro spoke nonchalantly, and Kakyoin swiftly turned, but Jotaro was already on his side, back turned towards the red-head who was only blinking at him in a mix of amusement and surprise.
"Also, don't tell anyone about this."
"Aye, aye, captain."

Miguel O'Hara — Love Sick
a/n: i've been slaving over genetics (and biochemistry) lately, and when i was scrolling on tiktok during my break i saw this one superbat imagine and thought of writing it with my favorite geneticist
cw: uh just fluff ig, miguel o'hara is not good with feelings, miguel o'hara is emotionally constipated
Tumblr media
You haven't always had the best of luck in your life.
It wasn't so bad that it made you hit rock bottom, but you've had your fair share of moments where you ended up drawing the shortest end of the stick in the game we all call life.
And as you stare at Peter's hand balled to a fist, and yours with two of your fingers pointed out, his hand forming a rock and yours forming scissors, you quickly conclude that this is one of those moments.
Under normal circumstances, you wouldn't put losing to Peter in rock, paper, and scissors as top 5 of the worst moments of your life; however, this is different. To explain just how different it was, we need to go back to a few minutes ago, the reason why you and Peter had to play in the first place.
Not long ago, you received an alert from the Spider-Man 2099 himself asking for backup. You didn't bother to respond as Jess had already reassured you that she's got him—as it turns out, she, in fact, does not have him when she teleported back with an unconscious Miguel draped over her shoulder.
That, in itself, is already worrying enough. But what worried you more was Lyla's report on your boss' situation, relaying the information to Miguel's inner circle of most trusted Spider-people, including you.
"He's been hit with a love potion, an incredibly potent one at that," Lyla reports, her holographic form adjusting her heart glasses and typing away on her holographic computer. "It hasn't kicked in yet, but it will the moment he wakes up," Lyla adds before looking up from her computer, disappearing and reappearing in the middle of the huddled-up spiders
"And when he does, he'll be head-over-heels in love with the first person he sees," The AI informed them in a serious tone, before grinning like the mischievous rascal she is.
"So... Who will the lucky person be?"
It has been decided amongst your group that whoever loses shall be the unfortunate soul that needs to deal with Miguel's affection until Lyla and the other Spiders have concocted an antidote for everyone's admired boss.
And now, you stare back at your hand, then at Peter's, and back at your own hand again. Silence fills Miguel's spacious office as all eyes land on you, and you can feel your cheeks already starting to warm up.
"Can't we just blindfold him?" You spoke before anyone else could, looking over at the holographic AI, who seemed a bit too pleased with the results. "Or lock him in a room or something?"
"Don't be so barbaric," Peter spoke with amusement in his voice.
"Right. Besides, it can't be that bad!" Lyla spoke, her voice with a hint of something that you can't quite put your finger on. Mischievousness? Teasing? Hinting at something she knows but you don't? You didn't know for sure.
"I think Miguel would prefer being locked in a room than being lovesick for an entire day." You respond with a sigh as Peter practically drags you toward where Miguel is currently lying unconscious, and you have no other choice but to let him.
You were a person of your word. You can't possibly back out now just because you lost.
You tense slightly as your spider sense alerts you that Miguel is starting to wake up, feet glued to the floor when he starts to stir.
"You'll be fine," Jess tried to comfort you with a poorly hidden amused smile on her face, followed by Peter patting your back, and you didn't have to turn around to sense that he'd already whipped his phone out to record the whole scene.
The whole room was tense, or perhaps it was just you. Ice ran through your veins the more Miguel moved, and you could feel everyone's eyes on you as his hand moved to rub one eye before finally, finally.
His eyes flutter open.
Ruby red irises land on your form, and you can see a hint of your reflection from his intense gaze. The first person he saw as he awoke.
He stares at you in silence, gaze glued to yours, raking over your visibly tense form as you stare back at him. His face remains neutral, and you're already bracing yourself for his affection—may it be in the form of verbal affection or physical affection.
Miguel then leans forward to sit, before slowly standing up.
You watch as he takes steps toward you, his hand already rising and about to reach out. Your heart skips a few beats, trying to beat right out of your chest to meet his own halfway.
When he was closer to you, you tense up even more, ready to be pulled into his arms...
Except... he just slipped past you.
The hand he raised earlier ran through his hair, his eyes now on Jess.
"Mission report," Miguel demanded in his usual neutral, gruff tone as everyone looked at him with jaws dropped, all dumbfounded by his casualness.
The drowsiness seems to have left Miguel by then as he looks at everyone. He raises a brow in confusion as he notices everyone's stupified expressions and Peter's phone still pointed at him as if they were expecting something from him.
"What?" He asks, brow still raised.
"That's... This isn't how it's supposed to go!" Peter was the first to speak, begrudgingly putting his phone in his robe's pocket.
"Peter, I'm already not feeling well." Miguel responds, brow scrunched as he turns to face Peter, "I have no time for your antics, and that goes for you, too." He adds, pointing towards you on the last part.
Lyla's hologram hen shows up on Miguel's shoulder, bent over and examining Miguel's face, a hand on her chin as she hums. Her boss raises his brow again at this, trying to shoo her away, only for her to keep insisting.
"You were hit with a love potion, Miguel. Quite a potent one, too." Lyla informs the man who's looking at her with a skeptical look in his eyes as she continues, "I calculated its effects would include being down bad in love with the first person you see when you regain consciousness."
Miguel blinks at that, his eyes landing on you, and you recognize the flicker of understanding in his gaze as he does before looking back to Lyla and to the disappointed Peter and the less-visibly disappointed but still very much disappointed Jess.
"Well, it didn't work." Was his simple response, which caused a groan to resound from Peter and a shake of a head from Jess.
"Come on, not even a bit?" Peter asks, looking at Miguel with narrowed eyes. "Look at them, don't you feel like pulling them into your arms and kissing them until the sun sets?"
"First off, that's highly inappropriate," Miguel responds, his hand coming up to pinch his nose bridge in between his fingers to nurse a headache already starting to come up. He says your name exasperatedly, "Please don't mind him. You know how he is."
Before Peter can voice out the offense he took to Miguel's words, Jess speaks up with curiosity and a hint of suspicion in her voice.
"But how come it didn't work?" Jess asks, her brows furrowing in confusion, looking at Miguel, whose face remained neutral despite her questioning. "Lyla was so sure it affected you, and it affected you enough that you lost consciousness, and suddenly it just... didn't have an effect?"
Miguel clears his throat at that, subtly looking to Lyla to give Jess an explanation that would sate her curiosity and make her suspicions die down, but you suddenly spoke to his rescue.
"Perhaps it has something to do with his DNA?" You infer, humming softly to yourself, "His DNA is different from ours, and most of the time, he's immune to potions and poisons because he isn't human enough to be affected by them. Right?"
Your eyes meet Miguel's as you ask for confirmation, and your breath hitches at the sheer intensity of his gaze as he looks back at you. Still, this wasn't anything new. Miguel can be kind of intense and intimidating, even if he doesn't mean to.
"Pretty much." It was Lyla who confirmed your theory on behalf of Miguel, and before anyone could speak, Miguel swiftly interjected.
"Alright, the show's over." He spoke, looking over at everyone and individually giving instructions in order to get all of you off of his back.
"Jess, I need that report before the end of the day. Peter, weren't you supposed to go home early today? Look after your pregnant wife." Miguel spoke before turning to look at you, "And you, I have a mission for you."
One by one, the three of you leave his office, with you being the last one after he briefs you on the mission with Lyla's assistance. Miguel's eyes were glued to your back as you left, much to your obliviousness.
"It worked, didn't it?" Lyla coos suddenly, snapping Miguel out of his thoughts, making him jump slightly and snap his eyes from your figure and towards his holographic AI.
"What worked?" Miguel tried to feign innocence, looking away from Lyla as he turned toward his many screens.
"The Love Potion. It worked." Lyla continues to tease him, grinning at him knowingly as she lays on her stomach in the air, kicking her feet. "You're just so in love with them already that it didn't make a difference."
Miguel remained silent for a while at her teasing words, but the reddish tint blooming on his tan cheeks was enough of an answer to the AI already. Besides, she's the one subjected to Miguel's eyes, always following you around like a lost puppy whenever you're in the room.
"If you tell anyone, I'm shutting you down."
"No, you're not."
".....No, I'm not."

*BURSTS THROUGH THE WALLS, KICKS CHAIRS AWAY, SLAMS MY HANDS ON THE TABLE* LISTEN TO ME.
Jotaro x Student Council President!Reader where they're so sure the other hates the other's guts because Jotaro has been nothing but a problem to Reader and Reader is pretty much an antagonist to Jotaro's school life ("What is that uniform? Adhere to our dress code!" "No smoking in the campus" "The rules apply to you, Kujo")
But!!
What is this?? Despite Jotaro challenging and pissing off most of his teachers, somehow, his record is still somewhat clean and he barely received any disciplinary actions??? It's certainly a surprise to most students that Jotaro hasn't been suspended yet....
And what is reader doing in the faculty during dismissal with their head down, pleading with the teachers about disciplinary actions??? They've been nothing but a model student... Were they, perhaps, talking to the teachers on someone's behalf???
Oh!!
It's... awfully weird that most of the votes that the reader received during the re-election came from the female populace??
Hm, Why are Jotaro's fan girls so dedicated to promoting reader during the campaign week? Oh! What are these dudes with casts on their arms doing, suddenly apologizing to reader for trying to sabotage their campaign—they weren't even aware that these dudes tried to do that?

Jotaro Kujo — and his nightmare of dealing with two Joseph Joestars
cw: fem!reader, reader is caesar's granddaughter (he had so many girlfriends, he must have unknowingly had a child somewhere), inspired by a scene from eyes of heaven, honestly this is just me having a bit of fun lolol
Tumblr media
Fate is a funny thing.
Fate is what once brought DIO to his great-great-grandfather, fate is what brought him on a 50-day journey to save his mother, and fate is what brought you to him.
Fate, that sneaky little bastard, is also what brought him here and now... here and now, being 50 years into the past. His eyes gaze at the annoying old man he has come to know and the sweaty, even more annoying punk that his grandfather once was.
The younger one almost sizes up the older man, looking at him with a mix of recognition, confusion, and suspicion. Jotaro lets out a quiet sigh to himself. You had left to help the younger version of your own grandfather with his great-grandmother, and now he's left with the younger version of his own grandfather.
Oh, and the present version too.
After the initial shock of not only seeing his older self but also his future grandson and the future granddaughter of his own best friend initially wears off, teenage Joseph approaches Jotaro. The latter just side-eyes the former as he studies the man's features.
"Grandson, huh..." Joseph ponders to himself before one hand reaches out to be placed on Jotaro's shoulder. A look of absolute seriousness now appears on the teenage Joseph's face.
"This is of utmost importance—uh... Jotaro, was it? Tell me...." Joseph leans in even closer, and Jotaro almost holds his breath in anticipation of what could be so important.
"What do you think of Caesar's granddaughter, eh? Do you like her?"
Jotaro can already feel a headache starting to form.
The teasing grin on the other teenager's face makes Jotaro's scowl deepen. This truly is Joseph Joestar. Good to know that his grandfather being an annoyance has always been there since the start. Was he really just born annoying?
The grin then fades from the teenage Joseph's face as he seems to have realized something. He turns to point an accusatory finger toward the older version of himself.
"Hey, how come my and Caesar's kid didn't end up together?!" He asks, his tone of voice making it obvious that he is disappointed in his future self.
"They were both daughters," Older Joseph responds, arms crossed on his chest. He lets out an unbothered shrug.
"And...?" The 19-year-old raises his brow at the old man, as if his response hadn't answered his question.
"Unfortunately, they both liked men."
Teenage Joseph lets out an annoyed grunt at that before turning to look at Jotaro once more. Just the look on his face is enough to make the frown on Jotaro's face deepen even more.
"How about you? Do you like women?"
Just like the older version Jotaro has come to know, this version of Joseph doesn't seem to be intimidated by the harsh, intimidating glare that he is currently receiving. Realizing that Joseph won't budge, Jotaro merely groans. A hand comes up to cover his eyes with the visor of his hat before he nods once.
"Good!" Joseph claps once, his voice cheery and his smile reaching his ears at the information. "That means you can be with Caesar's granddaughter!"
That is the plan, but Jotaro has no intention of informing this annoying gremlin about that.
Unfortunately for Jotaro, that isn't the extent of how annoying the Great Joseph Joestar can truly be. He realizes that as the teenager suddenly slings his arm over Jotaro's shoulder, the ever-irritating grin still present on his face.
"Well, do you like her?" Joseph asks, but as if he has sensed that Jotaro won't answer his question, he starts asking more. "When are you planning to make a move? When are you going to have kids? You should have one soon; I want to see what my offspring with Caesar would look like!"
In all honesty, Joseph's rambling is just entering one of Jotaro's ears and coming out the other. However, his last statement catches the broody teenager's full attention, prompting him to turn his head to the side with a raised brow.
"What?" An incredulous tone laces Jotaro's voice, and Joseph immediately knows what the other teen is talking about.
"What?" Joseph asks back, removing his arm from the other's shoulder as he explains himself.
"I mean, you're my grandson, she's his granddaughter. If the two of you have a kid—" Jotaro feels his cheeks burn at the thought "—then the kid's blood would contain half of mine and half of Caesar's, almost like the kid is our offspring as well!"
"..."
Jotaro Kujo stares at Joseph Joestar blankly, and only one thought comes into his mind as he blinks at the man.
Are we really related?
At the deadpan look of his future grandson, teenage Joseph merely waves the air with a scoff before turning to look at the version of himself who is watching the exchange amusedly. He gives him another accusatory glare.
"Old man!" He almost yells, getting his future self's attention. "Are you even trying to get them together?!"
"Of course, I have!" Old Joseph sounds offended at his younger self's question, and Jotaro groans at the reminder of all the times his grandfather poorly tried to set you up with him during the entire journey to Egypt. "I'm you! Of course, I've been trying!"
"You aren't trying hard enough! Did I get worse with age?! You didn't even get Jotaro to like her yet!"
"Was I that naive as a teen?! I didn't even have to do anything; Jotaro already likes her, smart ass!"
Jotaro's eyes widen, and his head immediately snaps toward the old man's direction. A surprised look appears on his face. He opens his mouth, not sure whether to protest or to ask how he knew, as Jotaro had yet to share with anyone that he had feelings for you. Old Joseph speaks before he can, however.
"I'm your grandfather, Jotaro. Of course, I knew." It's all he says before turning back to his younger self and continuing their yelling contest.
Jotaro groans and squeezes his eyes shut. That information and the sounds of their yelling are already getting to him, and a dull ache starts to spread from his head. He opens his eyes and his mouth to yell at them to shut up, but then he catches sight of a silhouette not far from them.
Never once in Jotaro's life had he ever thought that he would feel this happy upon seeing Hol Horse's stupid face.

Miguel O'Hara — Please Don't Say You Love Me
cw: i cant stop thinking about him, so i wrote a one shot. but i also have a love-hate relationship with him, so i made it angsty.
Tumblr media
Miguel O'Hara.
There isn't anyone in the Spider Society who hasn't heard of him: The Big Boss. He's strict, overworked, reserved, and has a bit of a temper—not that anyone would ever say that to his face.
However, to the select few who were close to him, they knew something more about Miguel O'Hara that they could never tell anyone else.
Miguel O'Hara, Spider-Man of Earth-928B, is hopelessly in love with you.
And that alone is bad enough for Miguel. But would you like to know something even worse?
He knows you're in love with him too.
He was the first to fall, that much he knew, and he was okay with that. He simply admired you from afar, enduring the teasing glances and knowing smirks Jess and Ben would throw his way, and the unbearable teasing from Lyla and Peter B.
Slowly but surely, however, he started to notice the way your eyes would shine brightly every time you caught a glimpse of him. The way you started to have a pep in your step when you made your way to report to him. His enhanced hearing could even pick up the way your breath hitched in your throat or the way your heart skipped a beat.
Miguel then realized he had to put a stop to this......whatever might possibly develop.
From then on, he avoided you like a plague—which wasn't all that hard, but it led him to confine himself to his office more than he already did. Every communication he had with you remained professional, and he merely answered your inquiries with short quips, ending the conversation sooner than it had begun.
He was harsher with you than he was with others, overworked you. He did everything in his power to push you away from him, to make you lose interest in him, to hate him.
That didn't work, however. That much he figured out when he overheard your conversation with another Peter Parker, who pointed out his attitude towards you.
He forgot that you were a spider person; the epitome of hope, plenty stubborn, and more positive than he would have liked you to be.
"That just means he sees more potential in me and trusts in my abilities greatly, doesn't it?" You responded then, and even if Miguel couldn't see you, he could almost imagine the smile on your face.
Miguel walked away before he could even think of falling for you even more.
Both of you were never supposed to meet, never supposed to fall in love.
He reminded himself, his fists clenched, as he made his way down the halls of the Spider Society—the society that he had built himself to save the multiverse.
That's right. To save the multiverse, not to destroy it.
"But wouldn't you at least like to try?" The man was swift to put his hand up and wave Lyla away.
"No," Miguel's response was final, his brows scrunching together in annoyance, ignoring the ache in his chest.
Interweave enough universes, versions of himself fall in love with enough versions of yourself, and he might end up being the cause of the universal collapse instead of maintaining it.
His decision was final. His resolve was absolute.
Yet, he found his breath hitching in his throat when he saw you approach him, your determined gaze boring through his, your clenched fists at your sides, and he could hear your elevated heartbeat—one that he could clearly deduce was due to nervousness.
"Miguel," you called out, and he could hear the shakiness in your voice, "There's something I need to tell you."
Just like that, he already knew why you were here.
And he can't. He can't let you say those words. He already knew how you feel towards him, but if he hears it coming from you........ if he hears you say that you love him.............
He stops the thought, not even wanting to think about it.
"I'm sorry," he wasn't sorry at all, "I'm busy. Can this wait for another time?"
He turned his back toward you, pretending to focus on the number of screens before him. His eyes scanned through the information being displayed by the soft orange light, but his brain couldn't process any of it.
"It won't be long, Miguel." You pleaded, and he winced to himself. "I just wanted to tell you that I-"
"Por favor," Miguel rasped out exasperatedly, turning his head to the side as he gazed at you from the corner of his eye, "no digas que me quieres."
You didn't understand his words, that much he knew. Still, the tone of his voice must have been enough for you to back down, and he caught a glimpse of you smiling helplessly as you shook your head.
"Alright..." you spoke, "Maybe next time, then."
Miguel merely turned his head to focus back on his work, maintaining his facade until he could no longer hear your retreating footsteps. Only then did he allow his shoulders to slump over, burying his face in his hands as he repeatedly muttered 'esto es para lo mejor' to himself like a mantra.
If he repeated it over and over again, maybe it would lessen the pain in his heart.
If he repeated it over and over again, maybe one day he'll be strong enough to hear those words from you and not pull you into his arms and press his lips to yours.
If he repeated it over and over again, maybe one day he'll muster enough courage to reject your love.
If he repeated it over and over again, then maybe he would eventually fully believe that this truly was for the best.

Jing Yuan — no man escapes the wrath of his wife
cw: reader referred to as jy's wife, just jing yuan brain rot currently being active
Tumblr media
General Jing Yuan, the Arbiter-General of the Xianzhou Alliance's Cloud Knights, one of the Six Charioteers, someone who will undoubtedly be part of the history books, the ever-famous dozing general....
....finds himself in a pinch for the first time in centuries.
It has nothing to do with the fact that he currently finds himself kneeling with his hands in the air, surrounded by enemies with their weapons pointed at him from all angles. In fact, he even has to stifle a yawn as he looks at his captors, his golden eyes boredly examining each and every one of them.
"The Dozing General: Jing Yuan," the man who seems to be running the show speaks, and Jing Yuan mentally dubs him as Captor #1. "I would have thought it would be much harder to get my hands on you, really. Are the Cloud Knights truly this wea-"
But before Captor #1 could finish his sentence, laced with an incredibly condescending tone, the sound of a certain ringtone, familiar to the General, starts sounding out, reverberating in the small room.
Jing Yuan's eyes widen, his relaxed body suddenly tensing up, his half-closed eyes now blown wide in surprise as he feels his phone vibrating in his pocket.
That's the ringtone he has set for his beloved wife.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off..." the General starts, his tone apologetic, "But is there any chance you'd let m-"
Similar to the way Jing Yuan's phone rudely cut off Captor #1's monologue, Captor #2, who happens to be a woman, rudely cuts the general off, approaching him and roughly snatching his phone from his pocket.
The crystal-clear sound of his ringtone can now be heard, and Jing Yuan looks at his captors, observing their next move.
"Who is it?" his first captor speaks as his second captor approaches the man, showing him the phone.
"It's his wife," Captor #2 says, before smirking. "I think we should answer."
The sound of his ringtone suddenly comes to an abrupt stop, and Jing Yuan visibly gulps, showing signs of nervousness for the first time since his capture.
"Love, are you busy?"
In a different scenario, Jing Yuan's heart would have fluttered at the sound of your voice that he loved so much, but at the moment, he can only feel his heart flutter in nervousness and he prays to the aeons that Captor #1 steals the phone from Captor #2 to speak instead.
"Indeed, the General is."
However, it seems that all the aeons are too busy to look after Jing Yuan at the moment as his female captor speaks into the receiver of his phone with a teasing smirk on her face.
"What? Who is this?" your voice rings, now sounding annoyed. "Why do you have my husband's phone?"
"I'm the one currently keeping him busy," his captor responds, and Jing Yuan wants nothing more than to melt into a puddle and seep into the ground at the moment.
"It's not what she's making it out to be-"
"Shush, General~"
He doesn't know if she's doing this on purpose—the suggestive tone of her voice makes it seem like she is.
"What is that supposed to mean?!" you speak, now with anger. "Where's my husband?"
"We're currently holdi-"
"JING YUAAAANNN!!!!"
And that was his cue.
The tables were suddenly turned, and in the blink of an eye, only Jing Yuan remains standing. Every captor of his, including Captors 1 and 2, now lay on the cold, hard ground, either unconscious or groaning in pain.
The General jogs over to get his phone, seeing that you were still on the line. Captor #2, at least, had the decency to—or maybe just accidentally—put the phone on mute throughout the whole fight.
"My little sparrow!" Jing Yuan calls out to the phone, and he can almost imagine your arms crossed on your chest and the pout you wear. "It wasn't what she made it out to be, I swear!"
"Hmm, really now?" you respond, obviously not amused. Jing Yuan had half a mind to tease you for being jealous, but he thought against it.
"I'm on my way home. I'll explain everything."
"You better."
"I love-"
Jing Yuan's words were cut off as his wife hangs up the phone, and he can only let out a helpless sigh. A small smile adorns his face as he shakes his head helplessly, fingers dialing Yanqing's phone to take care of the rest.
He's really in a pinch now.

Lucifer — I really like your face
part 1 │ part 2 │ part 3 │ part 4
CW: enemies to lovers, lucifer hates you lol (part 1), slight angst (parts 2 and 3), he insults u in his mind multiple times (part 1), events in lessons 16 ifykyk, also this lowkey follows the og obey me timeline and events but like i dont feel like adding the whole time travel thing lol
Tumblr media
A headache.
That is what Lucifer would describe you as now, especially now that you have become closer and closer to his brothers. His index finger raises to massage his temples, nursing his everlasting headache that never seems to disappear—a headache that only became prominent when he heard the sound of rushed footsteps running past his office, the sound of yours and Mammon's voices loud enough to be heard clearly, followed by an exasperated, but still irritated Leviathan.
Letting out the deepest sigh for the first time that day, he squeezes his eyes shut.
Putting Mammon in charge of you has to be one of the worst decisions he's ever made in his long, long life.
That aside, Lucifer has also come to the conclusion that maybe, just maybe, you aren't that bad; The eldest has come to spend more time with you, some spent with his brothers, and others with just the two of you around—spending time with only the company of each other is inevitable, after all, especially when you both live under the same roof.
He's been observing you, the way you interact with his brothers, and the way you continue to make a ruckus and still make pacts with them one by one despite him almost crushing your bare hand in his. You always make them smile, and happy, and he even dares say that the broad smile on their faces and the laughter that rings in the air is reminiscent of that of their time in the Celestial Realm.
And... he does feel like he owes you for helping him make his relationship with Satan much better than it was before.
He might never admit it out loud to you or his brothers, but he's starting to trust you now. You've never done anything to put them in danger, and you really do seem to have good intentions for his brothers, even for Belphegor, and himself.
Only for that said trust to immediately vanish, to easily pop in the air like a soap bubble; a fleeting beauty—never meant to last; Which brings him to today.
Lucifer truly felt like he was beginning to have a connection to you, although not enough to even consider having a pact with you, he was slowly beginning to think of you as a friend.
But of course, you had to be a nuisance.
That's what you truly are, isn't it? Maybe he was right from the beginning.
The flame roaring in the hearth doesn't even equate to the anger burning in his chest. He can't believe this, he can't believe you but most of all, he can't believe himself.
You tricked him, and he fell for it. You played him like a puppet and he put his strings on your palms. And now everything he's worked so hard to build is falling apart before his very eyes.
The youngest brother he's trying so hard to protect argues with him, his ever-loyal twin brother now glaring daggers at Lucifer and he feels more pain than anger. He watches them leave before allowing his gaze to look over his other brothers, whom are looking at him hesitantly before turning his back to them and walking back into his own room to think.
The next thing he knew, he can hear his brothers causing another ruckus in another part of the house.
He expected this, of course, you and the twins would come back to seek refuge from Diavolo, try to plead with him to protect his youngest brother from the wrath of the future Devil King, and he debated whether he should go or not.
He scoffs before hitting his chest lightly. Why does it hurt so much? Was it the look in his brothers' eyes that pains him so? Or was it your betrayal of the trust that he handed to you on a silver platter? Perhaps, it was both?
Either way, Lucifer doesn't have the time to idle by and think. Opening the door to his room, he takes a step into the halls and follows the sound of his brothers' screaming...
Only to realize that the sight before him is so much different than the one he had anticipated.
The first thing he heard was Mammon, sobbing, wailing, and it was almost enough to make the demon freeze in place; The last time he heard his brother like this was after the Celestial War...when Lilith....
"MC! Hang in there, MC!"
Lucifer finally arrives at the scene, and from his peripheral vision, he can see his brothers look at him with troubled looks in their gazes, silently asking, pleading for him to do something; but his gaze is locked on one thing only, the limp body of a human that Mammon is holding.
The Avatar of Pride felt like he was suddenly stabbed in his chest, letting out a small choked noise of surprise that no one caught amidst their own panic. Crimson gaze burned through your body, almost as if he was commanding you to stand, but you weren't conscious enough to receive his message.
The familiar sound of laughter that hasn't been heard in quite a long time was what snapped him out of his daze, his gaze traveling to his youngest brother who is sporting a large, amused grin on his face.
"Mammon, you look like such a fool!" Belphegor mused, giving his brother a close-eyed smile, "A human's about to kick the bucket, and yet here you are panicking as if it's the end of the world!"
"Belphie..." The eldest spoke his name almost breathlessly, "You..."
"Belphie!" It was Beelzebub who spoke up, and Lucifer can't remember the last time the Avatar of Gluttony uttered his twin's name with such anger and disbelief in his voice, "What have you done?!"
"This is awful, what's going to happen to MC.....?"
"MC is a human, with injuries this bad, the chances of survival are...."
"Lucifer, can't we do something?!"
His brothers' voices started to interlap with one another, and his ears start ringing as he forces himself to think.
Think, Lucifer.
Do something.
He remembers the first time they smiled at him, they were so bright, so warm, and he hated that feeling because it reminded him of his moniker; the morning star.
Call Simeon or Luke, perhaps their angelic powers could heal them.
Come to think of it, he never really hated MC, did he? He was suspicious of them, sure, but he never once truly hated them for who they were.
Call Diavolo, he should be powerful enough.
If anything, he only hated the way they made him feel. They reminded him of his time as an angel, they were bright, they were warm, they.... they're akin to his own personal morning star.
Call Solomon, he should know what to do.
But of course, he's the Avatar of Pride. A powerless human can't possibly be making him feel this way, right? No way. So, he convinced himself he hates them.
Do something, Lucifer.
He threatened them, he insulted them, and even almost put an end to their life himself, but he regrets that, doesn't he? No matter how many times he convinces himself that he doesn't.
Do something.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what kind of lie he forces upon himself because the truth is MC already had him wrapped around their finger. They already had him, even without a pact.
Do something.
Because he likes them. He adores this nuisance of a human who slithered their way into his heart. He likes MC, more than he's ever liked anyone before.
DO SOMETHING.
"Yes....yes! Perfect!" Belphegor's voice cut through the loud, panicked chatters of the others, his voice crystal clear in Lucifer's ears.
He heard the same laugh once again, and it felt like Belphie was mocking him—his feelings, his emotions,. He felt vulnerable in the eyes of his youngest brother, and he hated that feeling.
He's my brother. He's my brother. I can't hurt him. He's my brother. He's my bro-
"That's exactly the look I was hoping to see on your face Lucifer! Hopeless! Helpless!" Belphegor continues, maniacal laughter still ringing in the air, apparently finding the whole thing amusing.
"Tell me, eldest brother, how does it feel to be so useless that you can't even keep one measly human alive?"
In a snap, Lucifer's mind went blank.
True to his demonic nature, the only thing that remained is rage.
Pure, unadulterated rage.
Lucifer didn't hear the way Beelzebub called out his name, nor did he catch the way Satan reached out to try and stop him in his tracks when the blonde caught wind of what may be going through the Eldest's mind.
Belphegor didn't have time to dodge out of the way, and he could only cough harshly on his brother's face as he feels the air get knocked out of him. His back now glued to the wall, mouth open to gasp for air whilst his oldest brother wraps his hands tightly around his throat, choking him the same way he did with the human.
And the Avatar of Sloth knew he should be scared, terrified, even, as he looks into the eyes that once belonged to the man he admired, the same eyes that once looked at him with concern and adoration; now, he can see that there's a not a single thought behind Lucifer's eyes other than rage and bloodlust.
Still, the demon's reaction to this situation is just as fascinating and amusing as it is terrifying. Knowing that this may be his last words, Belphegor spoke, if only to spite the demon even more.
"Oh, how far you've fallen, dear brother," Belphegor is sputtering to get his words across, yet the smile on his face never leaves "To be played and be fooled by a human to this extent... What has become of you, Lucifer, Avatar of Pride?"
The way the lighting hit Lucifer's face made his ruby eyes glow and shadowed the rest of his facial features that made an involuntary shiver go down Belphie's back. The sight before him suddenly reminds him that the demon Satan, the Avatar of Wrath himself, came from the emotions of this very demon before him.
Gone was the Lucifer he knew, the one he considered to be his brother, the one he looked up to, the Morning Star; Before him stood a demon, the most powerful out of the seven rulers of hell, the right hand of the future devil king himself and one of the most powerful creatures in Devildom.
"Calm down, Lucifer!"
"Lucifer, let go!"
"Lucifer, snap out of it, damn you!"
"Lucifer!"
Mammon's, Beelzebub's, Satan's, and Leviathan's voices no longer register in Lucifer's mind, and neither did their hands clawing at his limbs in efforts to try and get him off of the youngest. In the prideful demon's eyes, he wasn't slowly suffocating his brother, rather, it was some nameless demon who dared to lay a hand on his family.
No one is allowed to hurt his family, he'd take care of anyone that poses a threat, he'll get rid of anyone who even dares to touch a single strand of his family's hair—and MC is one that he considers to be one of their own.
"Lucifer!" the voice that finally registered in Lucifer's rage-addled mind was booming, commanding, "That's your brother!"
The voice was followed by a hand, this time, much stronger than that of his brothers, exerting enough force to make his arms hurt before those pair of hands were finally successful in prying the raging demon away from the one he used to protect.
Belphegor gasps for air as the pressure on his neck finally disappears, his knees gave out but his twin was quick to catch him before his body could meet the floor. Mammon was quick to crouch and check on his youngest brother, holding onto his hand which the youngest was quick to squeeze while catching his breath.
Sure, Mammon doesn't exactly like Belphie at the moment, but he's still his brother. He'd still, and always will, protect his younger brothers—even if it was against the eldest.
Satan lets out a sigh of exhaustion, emerald eyes darting from Belphie to Lucifer while Leviathan anxiously looks over at Belphegor.
Lucifer finally snaps out of his fit of rage, pushing the demon holding him and taking a step back. The said demon senses that the calm and collected Lucifer had made its return, and allowed him to take a moment to breathe, but he still had his guard up in case the demon decided to attack his brother once again.
"Lucifer..." Diavolo starts, the usual cheery tone that accompanies his words now nowhere to be found,
"Diavolo," Lucifer acknowledges the demon, eyes looking over at him to see that his friend has transformed into his true form, and the same can be said of his brothers behind Diavolo. Looking down at his own hands, his red gloves looking back at him, only did he realize that he, too, was in his natural form.
"MC..." He starts. Diavolo immediately notes the regret and shame in his voice and was quick to cut him off.
"-is with Barbatos, Solomon, and Asmodeus. They should be fine soon." Diavolo finishes for him, and seeing the confused frown on his friend's face, he continues to explain what he knows from the situation.
"You flew off the handle. Asmodeus contacted me and Barbatos was quick to make a portal here. From what I saw, all four of the remaining brothers were trying to pry you off of Belphegor. I stayed while Barbatos and Asmodeus bring MC to Solomon."
"I...... see."
Diavolo frowns at the sight of his friend looking down in shame at his actions,
"For you to cause fatal harm to your own brother..." Diavolo starts, causing the other demon to avert his eyes in shame, an everlasting frown plastered on his features, "What happened, Lucifer?"
Letting out a sigh, Lucifer could only tell him the truth.
"I became weak."
Tumblr media
A knock reverberated inside the music room, overtaking the sound of the cursed record currently spinning in the player whilst Lucifer lays back in his chair, legs spread open, his coat and suit perched on the coat rack, the first buttons of his shirt open.
Lucifer would be lying if he said he hadn't expected this, but he really wished they just left him alone; sitting up straight, he buttons his shirt properly and ran his gloved hands through his hair in an attempt to fix it and hide his miserable self. He's Lucifer, the Avatar of Pride, after all.
Anything but perfect is unacceptable.
"Come in,"
He could only infer a few possibilities as to whom might be on the other side of the door: It could be either Diavolo or Barbatos, about to inquire about his behavior earlier in the day. It could also be Beelzebub, demanding he take accountability for his actions. Perhaps, even Solomon, for who knows what reason.
But the most likely answer to that question was...
The door opens and in comes the eldest brother's guest. Contrary to the demon's loud personality, he didn't speak a word as he comes in, tray in hand. He places the aforementioned tray on the nearest coffee table from the oldest, and from what Lucifer can see, it contains two servings of what he knew to be a peanut butter sandwich and a cup with haphazardly made tea.
"Mammon.." Lucifer acknowledges the presence of his younger brother, who only looks at him with a poorly disguised concerned look through his colored lenses.
"Eat," Mammon responded, "You haven't eaten all day,"
"Ho-" Before Lucifer could even finish his question, Mammon already answered the question that has been eating at him all day.
"I can't guarantee Belphie is fine, Lord Diavolo took him. Somethin' about making sure MC is safe and violatin' some rules. I tried to stop him but-"
"You did your best, Mammon."
Mammon stopped for a while at that, silently just looking at his brother who gave him a small but tired smile. Even at Lucifer's attempt to present himself to look better than he feels, Mammon has known his brother long enough to know how much of a mess Lucifer's mind is right now.
"Beel, obviously, is not fine with that. He almost charged up here to ask you to get Belphie back but I was able to calm him down for a while. Levi is looking after him at the moment," Mammon finishes his recap for the eldest before remembering an important detail that he almost forgot, "Oh- and Lord Diavolo told me to tell you that you're on house arrest."
The eldest brother took a few seconds to take in the information laid before him and then let out the deepest sigh he's let out for the past month.
"But that's a problem for us to deal with tomorrow," Mammon picks up one of the plates of peanut butter sandwiches, handing it to his brother who simply stared at the food, "For now, eat up and rest."
"....thank you," Lucifer mutters, before reaching out to place the plate on his lap, gloved hands picking up the sandwich before him and taking a bite. The familiar taste made him feel a bit of relief, a small respite from the whole mess.
As Lucifer takes another bite, Mammon walks to the other side of the room to pick up a chair, placing it a safe distance away from Lucifer to give his oldest brother the space he needs, but still close enough for Lucifer to sense his presence.
Mammon knew better than to question Lucifer for his earlier actions, he didn't need to see him to know that the Avatar of Pride was already wallowing in guilt from his actions. He also knew better than to ask Lucifer to verbalize his thoughts and feelings.
Still, the Avatar of Greed stayed. Manspreading on the chair before reaching out for his own sandwich, trying to get himself to enjoy the cursed record his brother loved so much. At the very least, Mammon wanted Lucifer to know that he wasn't alone, that he's here to help him, and that it's not a sin to lean and depend on him every now and then.
After all, that's his job as the second eldest, is it not? To lessen the burden on his oldest brother.
Sure, he's no Lucifer, and he isn't exactly the best role model to his younger brothers, and he always gets in trouble, but that still doesn't relieve him of his responsibilities to look out not just for his younger brothers, but for his stubborn older brother as well.
"I have deep feelings for them,"
Amidst the silence between the two brothers, it was Lucifer who spoke first. Allowing himself to be vulnerable even just for a short while, a rare sight, but definitely not a first to Mammon.
"I..." Lucifer's words falter, and he frowns to himself, "I just saw red."
"I know," Mammon responds, loudly sipping from his own cup of tea, before continuing to speak with a low voice, almost as if he's ashamed of himself. "For a while, I did too."
Lucifer watches as Mammon's eyes land on the floor. His little brother always has been an open book, the most expressive out of all of them. In a desperate attempt to lighten up the mood, he decides to tease him a bit.
"You seem to be taking it well," The sadness in Lucifer's voice was still there, but now mixed with a teasing lilt to it. Confused at the sudden change of mood, Mammon looks up and his sapphire eyes meet his brother's crimson, nonverbally asking him to elaborate.
"Me liking MC, that is." The eldest lift the teacup to his lips, and had he no self-control at all, he would've winced at the taste of the tea. But he could tell Mammon tried his best to brew this for him, so he gulped it down the same way he does with Barbatos' tea.
"Don't you like MC as well, Mammon?"
"Ugh," Mammon groans, now a scoff on his face while he rolls his eyes, "Ya really believe that?"
"Hmm? Well, don't you?"
"Of course not!" Mammon almost exclaims like he felt scandalized by the thought of him, The Great Mammon, liking a human. "No offense, but they're not my type. They're my best friend, is all."
Mammon then shrugs, continuing his words.
"Besides, everyone already knows you like MC," Mammon stated like it was a casual fact, and not a whole bomb being dropped right on his brother's face—which caused the aforementioned brother to choke on his tea, letting out loud coughs as he hit his chest.
One glare from Lucifer was enough to make Mammon smile nervously, and out of habit, he started spilling every single thing to him.
"It was Diavolo, not me!" Mammon was quick to put the blame on the demon lord, "HE talked to ME about how ya never stop talking about MC, and how you insist on takin' care of any work that is related to them."
"Go on."
"I mean, personally, I thought you hated them. But then I started to notice how you looked at them.. It was different. It reminds me of the way you look at us; at Belphie when he sleeps, at Levi when he cheers at winning a game, at Asmo who happily thanked you for choosing an outfit for him, at Beel whenever he enjoys your cooking, and at Satan when he plays with cats—it was kinda the same, but different, ya know? Like you see them as family, but not in the way you see us... does that make sense?" Mammon shakes his head, before deciding to continue regardless of whether Lucifer understood him or not, "and I mean, Sure, you were harsh with 'em, but other than Lord Diavolo, is there really anyone you weren't harsh with?"
Lucifer scrunches his eyebrows at Mammon's words, quite confused by them. Does this mean that he's had this feeling lingering in his chest for longer than he originally thought? Was he really the last one to realize?
"Then I thought I'm not the best at this. I figured I could confirm with Asmo 'cause if there's anyone who knows somethin' 'bout affection, it should be him. And that's also when he noticed, and he was the one that blabbered about it to our brothers, 'til it just reached the angels and Solomon,"
At the sudden influx of information, Lucifer can't help but squeeze his eyes shut. His right hand raising to squeeze the bridge of his nose in annoyance. Of course, he should have expected this.
But amongst the surplus of information that Mammon suddenly dropped on him, Lucifer only found himself caring for one certain fact.
"Do they know?"
At that, the nervousness painted on Mammon's face immediately dropped, now exchanged with seriousness as he answered his brother's question confidently.
"No,"
And for the first time that day, Lucifer found himself sighing in relief, letting out a breath he hadn't even realized he was holding.
You didn't know. He hadn't lost the chance to be the one to inform you of his own feelings.
Somehow, that one thought was enough to somehow calm the disaster that is Lucifer's thoughts and emotions. He truly had it bad for you, a mere human, making him feel like this. You have him wrapped around your pretty little finger.
And, disturbingly enough, he realized that he didn't mind that at all.

Genesis
Obey Me! x Reader
cw: references to events in obey me and obey me nightbringer (possible spoilers?), the story i promised in this post lol, uhh thats all for now i think!
Prologue
Tumblr media
Once a human meets their demise, their souls only have two choices two make: to stay and wander as a spirit for all eternity or to be reincarnated based on their actions during their past lives.
A particular soul that has lived a relatively normal life would be reincarnated into that of a human once again, while a soul that has lived despicably is sent down to the Devildom, doomed to live in eternal darkness; maybe if they're lucky enough and knows to keep their head down, they'll be able to live peacefully. But if they don't, then there's also the possibility of another demon tearing them apart limb from limb, but such demise in the Devildom isn't unfortunate—what's truly unfortunate is if a soul managed to piss off one of the seven rulers in hell. Death is a much preferable outcome than being the seven brothers' tortured plaything.
On the other hand, if a soul has lived admirably, then they are welcomed to be enveloped by the everlasting warmth in Celestial Realm, blessed by white wings and a halo.
And to selflessly sacrifice one's own life to save those of others.... that is one surefire way to be crowned with a golden ring of light upon one's head.
Especially if that sacrifice saved all three realms.
Simeon was a mere few seconds too late.
Lucifer stood still, eyes widened as he looks at you, both of your palms still wrapped around his own, holding the hilt of the blade that has now pierced through you.
Lucifer couldn't speak, couldn't move, his whole being felt frozen as his blood ran cold. He feels so far away, feels like he's being drowned in the deepest parts of the ocean. He couldn't find it in him to breathe, and the sound of your name being yelled out by Simeon sounded so far away that he almost couldn't hear it.
The eldest focused on the way your grip slowly loosened on his hand, and he wasn't sure if you were truly losing the warmth in your palms or if it was just his shock making everything feel like ice to the touch. He was so focused on the dulling of the brightness in your eyes that he almost didn't register the sound of rushed footsteps entering the room.
Before your limp form could even meet the cold floor, you were immediately caught by the Avatar of Greed. Mammon looks down at you, and if his words weren't enough, just one look in his eyes is enough to tell you just how desperate he is for you to stay. He holds you tightly to himself, as if providing you the warmth of his body will be enough to keep your own from going cold.
Levi was quick to kneel at his brother's side, tears already streaming down his face, and you watch as their mouths move, but you find that you can't make sense of their words.
Your ears just kept ringing, and in your last moments, you look around the room. Mammon held you in his arms, next to him knelt Leviathan. On your other side, the twins sat, with Belphegor holding onto your arm and Beelzebub looking into your eyes, too stunned to say anything. Not far from you stood Asmodeus, Satan, and Simeon. Simeon looked panicked, Asmodues has a hand covering the bottom half of his face as tears stream down his cheeks and Satan looked at you in disbelief, as if he has yet to process what is going on.
And there, right where he has been since he first entered the room, Lucifer stood still. His hand is still in the air as if he's still holding the dagger that is very much now burrowed in your abdomen.
In your last moments, the last thing you saw was his crimson gaze finally landing on you. And with the last of your strength, you speak, for the very last time.
"I'm sorry,"
And everything went dark.
...
You expected the cold embrace of death to welcome you, but instead, everything feels warm.
As you open your eyes once again, for some reason unbeknownst to you, you expected to be greeted in darkness. However, it was a bright, almost blinding light that welcomed your senses, making you squint.
Feeling uncomfortable as you lay on your back, you slowly stood up, before turning your head to realize why it was so uncomfortable to lay on your back; Your wings, you had forgotten to keep them. You scrunch your brow as you try to fluff your wings, seeing a few feathers had been messed up from when you were unconscious.
"You..." The voice dripping with disbelief sounded like it came from everywhere, yet nowhere at the same time, and you didn't have to look around to know where it came from. "It's you... You're here....!"
You merely smile at his words, standing up straight once again. Your halo shined brightly atop your head and your wings stretched out, almost in pride, as you smiled up into the light.
"It is me, father." You greet him,
"I'm home,"

from me, the moon
Pairing: Jing Yuan x Reader Warnings: hanahaki, angst!, implies happy ending though dw i'm not feeling THAT cruel tonight, mentions of death (no actual death) Word Count: ~2.4k A/N: spirit waking up from a nap after a midterm: omg hanahaki with jing yuan!!
Tumblr media
To you, the sun,
You feel it before you realize it has struck you. That feeling in your chest that has begun to blossom when you're in the presence of the Jing Yuan. You become acutely aware of the way your heart thunders when he's near, the way you quiet down when he laughs to hear him, and the horrifying realization that yes, you are in love with him.
I would like to apologize in advance.
But honestly, who isn't? Who wouldn't fall in love with such a gentle soul dedicated to protecting those he loves. The sacrifices he's made for the Xianzhou Luofu are found in the warm smiles, greetings, and gifts that he receives from the people. He's effortlessly handsome, with his hair pulled back, but not enough to keep some of his hair from falling in front of his eyes. It feels like a privilege to get a glimpse of those eyes of his, pools of melted gold that soften when they fall upon those who hold a special place in his heart. you wonder what it would be like to be on the receiving end of such a look.
In the privacy of your own home, you allow yourself a moment of indulgence, to live in the fantasy of walking at his side, listening to the hum that builds from his chest as he nods along to what you would say. You imagine what it would be like to trace your hands along his skin, to cup his cheeks and turn him to face you so you can memorize his features. you wonder what it would feel like to feel his hands wander, if he could be as gentle with you as the way he holds the birds that seem to gravitate towards him.
I’m sure you’re upset, and you have every right to be. But I’ve made my bed, and it’s my time to lie in it.
Flower petals, splattered with droplets of blood, make their appearance for the first time that day.
I’m sorry.
An ancient curse, is what Bailu calls it, fixing you with a concerned stare. You can only laugh dryly at your luck, of course it would be you to have come down with some ancient curse that has caused you to cough out petals. You keep it to yourself, cradle half-bloodied flowers in your hands as you make excuses as to why you can’t join your friends for lunch, or why you can’t spend a morning to spar or play chess with the General. The less they know the better. (Right?)
Individual petals become clumps, and the clumps become half-made flowers. And by the time that the ever-attentive general decides to confront you about the sudden change in your behaviour, you're close to coughing out full flowers.
"Are you alright?" Jing Yuan asks as you sit across from him, cup of tea in your hands as you sit with your eyes closed, reveling in the warmth of your drink and that of his presence. "I haven't seen you around much. you're not avoiding me, are you?" Despite the chuckle that falls from his lips as he finishes speaking, you can still hear the hints of worry that he fails to hide. You suppose that's the result of knowing him for so long, the result of loving him for so long.
I wish I had the courage to admit it to you in person.
"I wouldn't be here if I was avoiding you," you hum, opening your eyes to meet his. Your chest tightens when you see the concern in his eyes seem to melt away. The last thing you want is to worry him, and you hope that your attempt at banter will at least deter him for the meanwhile. but Jing Yuan is quiet, more so than usual. He spends longer studying you, making you squirm under his watchful gaze until you chide him for thinking too much.
"Well, I can tell something's on your mind, Strale for your thoughts?" he wants to know what's going on in your mind. He's not stupid, and is far too attentive to the way you seem to keep yourself at bay, holding your tongue and sipping tea as if it would keep you from speaking.
Funny how you called me the bravest you knew, and yet the one time when I should have come clean, I couldn’t bring myself to say anything.
"I think I might be stricken with mara." Out of the corner of your eyes you see him stiffen. You look down at the steam that curls from your cup, caressing your face as if knowing that the man next to you wouldn't do the same.
Forceful laughter is pushed from his lips. “Don’t play jokes on me, dear. Have you come down with a cold? I know some of the Cloud Knights are out sick because of some bug that has gone around. You must have caught it when we sparred with them.” Your silence gnaws at Jing Yuan, and he can feel anxiety bubbling in his chest. It begins to grow when you turn away from him to take a breath. He watches, almost in slow motion, as you set your cup aside and look at him.
Thank you, Jing Yuan, for being my friend.
There is acceptance in your eyes, and Jing Yuan’s mouth goes dry. “Are you certain? Have you been diagnosed by a doctor? I can call for my doctor, I’m sure it’s not mara-struck—”
“Jing Yuan. There’s no other explanation,” neither of you can tell if the softness of your tone is an attempt to comfort yourself or him. His palms feel sweaty, the lump in his throat lodged so that words fail to come forth. He doesn’t like the way you say his name like this. It doesn’t roll off your tongue the way it usually does, and he finds himself grasping at anything to urge you to tell him that you might be wrong.
His desk becomes stacked with papers and reports about the mara-struck. The archivists watch as he spends longer nights conducting research, hair slipping from its hold as for the first time in years, the great General of the Xianzhou Luofu begins to lose a grasp on his composure. He calls upon Fu Xuan to divine what she can, and yet the grimace on her face paired with her admittance that the future is too foggy for her to divine makes his heart drop.
I have loved you longer than you could imagine. Thank you for allowing me to be at your side for as long as I did. I will treasure these memories forever, no matter where I am.
He finds himself alone in his room, head in his hands as he sits at his desk. Your medical reports, handed to him by your own hands, are missing something. There’s something you’re hiding from him and he needs to know what it is. For the first time, he begins to doubt the words you’ve said to him. You’ve had no reason to lie to him thus far, so why does it feel like you’re trying to hide something serious.
He lets the anxiety fester before finally, Yanqing is the one who forces him to his feet to find the only doctor he hadn’t visited yet. Jing Yuan watches as Yanqing lets his own worries and fears come spilling out and he realizes how much your condition has affected others. He chides himself for selfishly thinking that he was the only one trying to find a cure for your illness.
“They’re growing weaker,” Yanqing bites the inside of his cheek. “I went to visit them but I didn’t see any signs of Mara on their skin. But the Vidyadhara doctor, Bailu, was there. She gave me this letter and asked me to give it to you. She left in a hurry, but maybe we can ask her about them, right General?” There’s hope in the boy’s tone as if he too, was trying to grasp at anything to make sense of sudden fall to this illness. So clearly, a visit to the energetic doctor is next.
By this time, I’m sure you’ve uncovered the truth. The extent of my lies can only extend so far. I’m sure Bailu has spoken to you already. Be kind to her, will you?
“Mara? No, who told you that? That’s ridiculous, have you seen them? Didn’t they tell you?” Bailu stares up at him, unimpressed. “It’s Hanahaki. Surely you’ve heard of it, well, perhaps you haven’t. There’s no recorded cure. They told you all this, right?”
“They told me it was Mara,” Jing Yuan feels like he’s out of breath. He isn’t sure what to feel, the mix of emotions closing in on him. He wants to be upset with you and yet he can’t understand why you had been so bent on lying to his face. Not just him, but to Yanqing, to Yukong, to everyone else for the sake of what?
“It’s an ancient curse,” Bailu shakes her head.
Ancient curse. The words ring in his head. He figures the expressions on his and Yanqing’s faces are enough to give away their confusion. And he can only feel his chest tighten and tighten as he listens to Bailu explain the first time you came to her, tears building in the corner of your eyes, hands cupped to your chest and flecks of blood splattered on your palms. He listens as Bailu explains how you begged her not to say anything, that you would be the one to admit the truth. He listens as he hears of how your condition seemed to grow worse, day by day. He reads the medical reports that the Vidyadhara solemnly gives him and becomes acutely aware of his own shaky breath. He recognizes the days when you had gone to visit him, indulged in his requests to soak up the warmth of the sun as he put aside his work or to share stories over tea and a game of chess. The same days that you visited him are the same days that you came to Bailu.
Please, my dear, don’t blame yourself for my own faults. You have been nothing but supportive, caring, and kind. There is nothing more that I can ask of you other than you take care of yourself, please?
Jing Yuan knows loss better than anyone. He has faced loss in his own family and has watched as close friends and comrades have lost their lives on the battlefield. He knows of sacrifice, of that gut wrenching feeling when you are faced with the hard truth. He knows the feeling of defeat when he fights his master, initially hesitant in his blows before he gives into fate. The sight of his master’s thankful smile, a last moment of clarity breaks his heart. He knows of all these heartbreaking feelings, the same ones that have built up his walls, guarded his heart thus far and led him to become the Arbiter-General of the Xianzhou Luofu. The scars that litter his body are a result of hundreds of years of training, of hard-won battles and choking defeats, so really, there is nothing that can shake his resolve after all that he's been through. He isn’t sure what’s worse: how easily he believed your lies, or the reality of this sickness that you’ve come down with.
I’m sure all will be well. Don’t forget about me or I’ll haunt your dreams! (Stop falling asleep while you’re at work okay?)
He wants to yell, to go back in time and push harder for you to tell him the truth. He curses this long life that he has been cursed with. Because your time is fleeting, so quickly slipping from his grasp and he will live longer to live. He hates to imagine what it might be like when—
Visit me one last time, please?
He indulges in your request, shedding all armour and weapons at the door. He visits you with nothing but his jumble of emotions. To bring you flowers as a get-well-soon gift would be too cruel. But perhaps it’s more cruel for you to invite him over.
He hates the way you smile at him so warmly, that knowing look in your eyes prying through ivy ridden gates into his mind. You know what he wants to say, and when he sits down at your bedside and wraps his hand around yours, you squeeze gently.
“I’m sorry,” his voice breaks. You look at him curiously, about to tell him to stop apologizing, that he has nothing, and will never have anything to apologize for when it comes to you. But you stop when you catch sight of his eyes, watery golden pools that beg you to stay. He can’t get the words out but in the silence, there is more than enough said.
All my love.
(I love you, he thinks to himself. He closes his eyes and brings your knuckles to his lips, pressing a lingering kiss that he hopes will say enough. He doesn’t catch the way your eyes start to clear up and the way you gasp softly.)
From me, the moon.
———
To you, the sun,
I would like to apologize in advance. I’m sure you’re upset, and you have every right to be. But I’ve made my bed, and it’s my time to lie in it. I’m sorry. I wish I had the courage to admit it to you in person. Funny how you called me the bravest you knew, and yet the one time when I should have come clean, I couldn’t bring myself to say anything. Thank you, Jing Yuan, for being my friend. I have loved you longer than you could imagine. Thank you for allowing me to be at your side for as long as I did. I will treasure these memories forever, no matter where I am. By this time, I’m sure you’ve uncovered the truth. The extent of my lies can only extend so far. I’m sure Bailu has spoken to you already. Be kind to her, will you? Please, my dear, don’t blame yourself for my own faults. You have been nothing but supportive, caring, and kind. There is nothing more that I can ask of you other than you take care of yourself, please? I’m sure all will be well. Don’t forget about me or I’ll haunt your dreams! (Stop falling asleep while you’re at work okay?) Visit me one last time, please?
All my love.
From me, the moon.

Jing Yuan admires you from a far, a smile plastered on the dozing general's face as he watches you go about your day. Yanqing looks up at his master and he could almost barf from the heart eyes his master was giving you. In the young man's confusion, he speaks up, the question that has always been in his mind being spoken out for what could be the thousandth time by now.
"When are you planning to ask them out, Master?"
And like clockwork, Jing Yuan turns to gives the boy a close eyed smile, his response the same as it always has been.
"When I feel like it," He says, a smile still plastered on the General's face, "We have all the time in the world, anyway."
He was confident in that, truly believed it with everything that he has.
He regrets it now.
Now when General Jing Yuan had no other choice but to stop his own hands from trembling, forcing to keep a neutral face—a tough facade...
All while your mara-stricken form stood before him.

ehehe jing yuan in the mind. no thoughts. head empty. only he.
