You stared at your phone as it rang, your eyes never leaving the screen. You took a glimpse at the time, 11:21 pm , surely he wouldn’t be awake at this time right?

You were just about to hang up after several rings but then an all too familiar appeared making you sigh in relief.

“Y/N~” Taeyong said cutely, his damp hair covering his forehead. “It’s late. Shouldn’t you be asleep? You look exhausted.” His mothering instincts had now been activated, making you giggle at his concerned face.

“I should be saying the same about you Taeyong.” You smiled, his presence instantly making you feel at ease. You were less tense, your breathing normal, for now you actually felt…safe.

Suddenly you saw Taeyong’s face contort in anger, a large fire had been lit in his eyes and his jaw hardened. You flinched slightly at his change in emotion, wondering what you had done wrong.

“Who hurt you?” He spat, his eyebrows furrowed together.

“Wha-”

“Your black eye. I’m not that stupid Y/N.”

There was a long silence, you looked down ashamed that you tried to hide it from him, you had even tried dimming the lights in his room so it was harder to tell. Unexpectedly, a lone tear rolled down your cheek, followed by a whole tsunami that swallowed your face whole. You didn’t even feel embarrassed, you and Taeyong had been best friends for a while now, but you could already tell how hurt he was when you didn’t tell him immediately.

“It was him wasn’t it?” His voice was soft now, his anger replaced with sympathy.

All you could do was nod, your sobs threatening to escape your throat as the tears still fell.

“Did you end it?” Again, you nodded.

He seemed to smile for a split second then muttered a small ‘finally’ under his breath.

“Look at me.” He commanded, your eyes locked with his as if it was natural.

“You don’t need him, he’s always been an asshole, I told you that right from the start. But just know I’m proud of you, I’m not here to say I told you so, I’m here to say well done.” He paused to take in your state, a small smile crept onto your features as you thought over how grateful you was to have Taeyong in your life.

“Now cry. And tomorrow you can come over and make you dinner, I love you Y/N okay?”

“I love you too Taeyong.”
